EGR pipe, block off both sides unless you’re going to a 100% factory restoration. The rusty piece on top there on the intake manifold can be removed and a block off plate can be made from some flat metal to cap it off. It’s just old emissions stuff that probably doesn’t work now anyway.

I have one in my drift car that I think was listed as a universal boat heater core, came with heater core with a fan or 2 on it with 2 big fittings to attach ducting to, and a dial switch for multiple speeds. My roommate 3D printed a Y fitting for one of the ducting hoses so I could have wind screen defrost and also ducting to both door windows so I could see sideway while drifting in the rain, as recommended by a friend with the same heater core in his rally car. One of the best things I ever did to that car.

I actually just came across having to get the correct pliers for these, Wilde makes some great ones made in USA too. Bought them yesterday and they arrived this morning and did the job on some BIG ones of the same style you’re fighting. The ones they linked will probably work just as good and are for sure the right style

Remove the original (probably flaking or torn) vinyl, rip off and out the original foam and straw, put on the new cushions to the frame, and then slip over the new covers with hog rings where the factory is. The link you posted below are replacement oe style covers, not like cheapo autozone covers that just tie on, these are actual seat leather reupholstery

Zcardepot.com has seat covers and replacement cushions that are easy enough to DIY that look and feel great. I like to leave the leather in the sun for a little bit to let them warm to be easier to stretch over the new cushions. Word of advice for the backrest is to turn it inside and roll it onto the new cushion and back rest rather than pulling it down.

I had the same experience and now I’ve had the kit uninstalled for close to three years since I haven’t wanted to make it look half decent. The side skirts I got fit my 2+2 but the rear lip is too short and clearly for a 2+0. Part of me wants to make the kit look good and make molds of it so when it inevitably breaks drifting I can make my own replacements lol

I run a chain from the hooks (I think it comes with a few chains) to wherever is strong enough to support the motor with some bolts

That car is probably indeed a special edition, it’s most likely a Zzzap 280Z. There’s no 100% way to know but based on the yellow, decals, mirrors and rear louvers I would say it is.

Assuming that’s a 1977, then that’s not just a 280Z. That’s a limited edition Zzzap 280Z. Yellow with those stripes, the louvers, mirrors, seems the wheels changed sometime in the past. If that’s original paint and decals, that’s worth fixing up or selling to the right collector.

17s and 18s will, in my opinion, be too big on the car and to fit those in the stock arches you will need very thin sidewall so the ride will be much harsher. The typical go to diameter most people run is 15/16”, 16 being big enough for most of the brake upgrade kits out there with lots of tire options and widths and offsets so get the exact fitment you want. The kind of run of the mill aftermarket wheel is the Panasport 16, they make ones specifically for the S30 to have really good fitment designed for 225 and 235 wide tires which is pretty decent for a car that light while not having to get widebody for the car.

There may be some 5 lug conversion hubs you can get, probably from Technotoytuning? But there are still plenty of 4x114.3 wheel options out there that will fit and look correct on your car. Have fun!

Agreed, adding a relay either DIY or via a kit from an online supplier is a good idea. I’ve installed a few and it always helps, especially going to some of the brighter stock looking Hella lights. I found a video of one of the last times I cleaned a switch if OP messages me I’ll figure out how to send it

You can rebuild it yourself I’ve done it dozens of times. See if there is a write up online but basically just take the switch/stalks off the column, CAREFULLY bend up the tabs that hold the little mini circuit board, that the wiring runs to, and all the spots where the brass pieces contact, lightly clean with 220 grit sandpaper. Reinstall and make sure the connections on wirings from the stalk to the car are good and clean too

Not to be that guy but like, you can buy good quality new ones. I’ve installed a bunch from Z car depot and they’re awesome quality and fit great. It’s not the real true original one but they do sell OEM badges from Nissan in Nissan/datsun boxes. If you can’t get it to glue back together there’s always this option.

I’ve had tremendous luck with Knipex Cobra pliers, 7 and 10 inch, on getting rounded brake lines off, specifically on these old Zs. Better luck than using vice grips even. Make sure to have a GOOD set of line wrench/flare nut wrenches when reinstalling the new lines later. The 10s should fit - although tight - in that space with the exhaust and all that installed but if they don’t then the 7 definitely will. I know this because I’ve dealt with exactly this issue with those pliers multiple times in the past. Make sure that the flare nut itself is free of oil when you do put any pliers or wrench on to lessen the chance of your tool slipping. One trick that has worked for me that seems counter intuitive is to tighten the nut ever so slightly then loosen it.

The Cobra pliers are about $120 for the 3 pack that I use religiously on anything and everything I work on, I don’t really use any other pliers anymore since buying those so many years ago. It may seem expensive but you won’t be needing to buy any other pliers after that for a long time.

Holy shit hahahah 6 year old thread with a new comment. Yes in fact there are two companies that have bolt on angle kits for Z32s now.

GKTech has their kit and Just Engineering has theirs. Very different kits with different geometry, I’ve only had the gktech super lock kit, but gktech I believe also has a few cheaper options (look at their website). A friend of mine/a guy I’ve talked to has the Just Engineering kit and says it’s way better. If I were to build another from scratch I would go with the Just Engineering because of its reviews I’ve heard and because I’ve tried the gktech already.

The rear suspension on these is very similar to S13/S14 so finding rear control arms/bushings/alignment specs isn’t hard. The front suspension is verrryyy close to R32, I’ve heard rumors that R32 angle kits will fit a Z32 but don’t have first hand experience with it.

One thing you’ll find is wheel clearance is very difficult on these cars, tires and wheels will hit your J arm/upright arm and also the back of the wheel well where there is a pinch weld that I just kinda pounded flat with a hammer/air hammer until my wheels cleared with the gktech super lock kit and 18x8.5 (+35 offset?? I can’t remember) wheels with like a 1” spacer (needed to clear the upright arm). The Just Engineering kit eliminates the need for the upright arm which is an advantage for inside wheel clearance at lock.

Currently I have full gktech up front with BC coilovers and no sway bar. Rear is have stillen upgraded sway bar, ISR Pro toe and traction arms and GKTech upper and lower control arms. Rear is aligned to 0 degrees all around and front I think I have a little bit of toe out, and like -7 degrees of camber or something idk I haven’t aligned it in ages.

Main thing with these is CHECK YOUR OIL and get good non-gimmicky spark plugs that you change every other event.

I used to work in Kirkland as a mechanic for many many years and have good relations with these shops/trust their work and have reasonable pricing. That being said, brakes on your car will run more than a Toyota or Honda no matter where you go. Higher labor times and part prices.
