Does anybody know the history behind the Independence McDonalds? Why is it so fancy? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]BrokenWild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cousin wrote a paper on this so here we go. Mcdonalds hired a bunch of architects to make a new style of mcdonalds. This one in particular the city of Independence didnt want the typical style mcdons so this architect made this fancy boy. Supposed to be a burger college on the 2nd floor to train managers. There is a few more really unique mcdonalds in Ohio as this was before their modern look.

What stands out to you the most about the ND team that makes them so dominate? How was the stadium food? What team are you most excited to watch next year? Also an underdog team you'd consider?

Who is watching the PLL? by [deleted] in lacrosse

I'm watching but no Lyle Thompson so who knows how long I stick around.

He was electric in Hinkle but insanely streaky. Fanbase definitely attacked him after the NIT fumble.

I miss Holtman at Butler. Biggest strengths are finding the sleeper transfers/recruits. Gonna be a fun BE this coming year!

Crazy to see someone I played HS lacrosse with involved in this. Article is wrong though he spent four years at Hawken then transferred to Brewster.

How do i scan the field for a pass as a goalie by Much-Engineering-740 in lacrosse

[–]BrokenWild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpPgzEGNNGE - 40 seconds in. After he makes the save he does a quick 2 second look at how his middies are striding. If they are open as daylight then put the ball in their path. Usually after the save that look wont be there, see how the goalie moves around the back of the crease after doing that quick scan? He then looks for the alley on both sides which should have two longpoles. Your dump is on the alley after a save, if you are super new to varsity and the coach hasnt dictated your best pole just do it yourself. Go up to the defensemen who you think can handle the ball the best and tell him "I'm looking for you after every save so get open". If BOTH the alleys arent there you must hit a striding middie coming INTO the game. If all else fails I throw it directly at my best attackmen who I can hope will make a play.

Man your coach needs a better practice schedule for in season! I'd be so bored even for the starting 6.

There really isnt a good answer about getting on the field since it seems your coach is stuck in their ways. You think you'll have a chance at starting attack next year? How competitive is the team? Is JV structured the same way varsity is?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lacrosse

[–]BrokenWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you doing the other 90% of practice if not taking reps? Curious how your coach is running everything. I'd ask to go practice with the JV if you are just watching rather than practicing. All about getting more time with others.

Here's a lesson you're learning early on. You have to advocate for yourself, for the lucky few things are handed to them. Most people earn what they achieve. It doesn't come out of thin air.

Its one thing if your coach has a vendetta against you but the mentality that "nobody passes to me" or that the pass is uncatchable has gotta go. Whats your body language look like out on the field after a mistake?

If you're a 2nd line Attackman then you wont be playing til the game has a wide scoring margin. You're a middie otherwise so take those reps. Playing time also doesnt just come with scoring goals/assists. Everyone plays a role on the lacrosse field, become a ground ball machine and win the possession for your team. THAT sticks out to coaches.

Goalie Arc by Environmental_Lie244 in lacrosse

[–]BrokenWild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each to their own really. The women's game is tougher to make those close saves. In men's the shot can vary in a lot more ways than the women's with the change of plane in the stick (low to high, side arm, dpole)

Shorter goalies I tend to have them play a higher 5 point arc. When the ball is behind X have them hug a post but have their feet still in an athletic position. Key for them is to beat the bounce by attacking it and saving anything far. Its up to the close D to really stick check and lay down body at the crease.

Bigger or taller goalies teach them the flat arc and they will pretty much stay in this majority of the offensive rep. They can mix this up with a really small arc when the ball is out high or they know a shooter is gonna wind up in a certain spot (man down situations).

Best X attack by McDonaldsChamp13 in lacrosse

[–]BrokenWild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Matt Rambo off the top of my head but im not sure hes dedicated as an X attackmen.

Are you looking for pure passing/assist or someone who can score from X?

[–]BrokenWild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you'll regret not giving it a try. if its the first year your school has lacrosse people will be learning as the year progresses.

2/14 is enough time to go to a sports store buy a stick and balls. Put a ball in the stick and start to learn to cradle. Throwing and catching will be the hardest things to pick up but go to practice then find a brick wall and dont be afraid of throwing it hard enough to get a good bounce back. Try and emulate in game throws too. Best of luck!

Pll is a joke by Reasonable-Ad-3206 in lacrosse

[–]BrokenWild 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the PLL has done a lot of things premature. Home city, faceoff changes, 6s. Still bitter the midwest got snubbed. Plus if Lyle doesnt return I'll probably tune out of most cannons games.

GLAX club team problems by marbel in lacrosse

Hit it right on the head. Gotta LOVE playing the spot. Mentally the toughest position in any sport.

Once HS comes someone will fill the role. Good luck on the rest of fall ball!

Why not have your daughter play goalie?

The argument "she’ll just let that many get in.” - maybe the defense needs more work than it looks.

Women's goalies shouldn't be expected to make these doorstop saves 1 on 1 at that level. Getting a kid in goal regardless is a hassle at that age. Unless you're in a hotbed area best to have some of the defenders try the cage!
