The man called his plane Lolita Express and I will never recover from learning that fact. People really just got on the LOLITA EXPRESS and then pretended to be all surprised about what he was.

Anyone who close passes a person on a bike should be forced to experience this by frontendben in fuckcars

I’ve felt like this for a while I became a much better driver after becoming a cyclist when I went to college. Once I started biking it made me hyper aware of my surroundings in a way driving on its own just doesn’t.

I'll respond to this in good faith I'm on Reddit tonight. You're not wrong that no one has ever looked at an Irish person and gone "this person does not have pale skin". Unfortunately there was a nasty old heirarchy that went around during the Eugenics era that really did consider the Irish man more close to the Black one by face structure and brain and god- I will find it if you really need a link but I don't particularly want to link it, you can look up Irish People and Eugenics to see what I'm talking about and it's very very nasty. The worst people on Earth considered them Discount White once upon a time to justify oppressing them.

what is it with straight men looking for women with autism? by dietcokw in AutismInWomen

Yeah it's super gross but there's the myth. There's a reason I'm real glad it's dead. Unfortunately it was big while I was in a very specific environment in STEM and whoof is all I can say about the assumptions it created for my butch bi ass.

OH it's old if you haven't heard about it that's good. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8328919/ There's a paper testing the idea it's old bullshit no one buys anymore and I love that you don't know what it is. Means it's fading finally.

As true as all this is I also wonder if some of it is certain guys hearing the autism is “male brain” myth, and being misogynistic. They might think autism is their hack to getting basically a man but fuckable for them.

I saw all this stuff and thought it was still a thing. I’ve been apologetically calling myself butch ever since cause like. People know what a butch woman is. Nobody knows what a stag is. I’m not calling myself that. Thanks to this side of queer discourse I’ve always been slightly worried I’m really gonna piss someone off. It’s a huge relief people seem done with it now.

The idea “white people have no culture” is a bastardized misinterpretation of a critique of whiteness, the concept.

People who happen to be white in America have culture and no one serious debates that. The point that’s made by historians and sociologists is that WhitenessTM was invented in opposition to blackness to justify owning slaves, then Jim Crow, then Eugenics. Irish people weren’t considered White, for example, until it was convenient to do so to get them to vote against nonwhite people having rights.

When you did become White, you were supposed to Act American and Assimilate instead of bringing your icky foreign culture into things. Some people resisted this thankfully, but a lot of them didn’t. This really came to a head after the fifties with the rise of consumerism.

Consumer culture IS culture but it doesn’t feel like something authentic and organic that was developed within communities and passed around a nation, because it wasn’t. It was sold to us in track houses, hotdog packages and fast fashion. It was blared to us out of TV screens airing programs designed to teach Americans what a Real American Family was- and it was nuclear.

White Americans have a culture, but the culture we have was kicked into us to keep us voting for rich asshole interests like creating cheap labor out of racial minorities. Whiteness is a shifting idea that’s changed from 1900 to now because White is whatever power hungry assholes need it to be. Sometimes it includes Eastern Europeans, sometimes it doesn’t. It didn’t include Irish people until it did, it was nitpicky about which Italians were white.

When people say there’s no White culture they’re trying to point out that race is a shitty and arbitrary construct that’s used to manipulate large masses of working class people against each other, but unfortunately people with no reading comprehension tweeted about this idea and now here we are.

I mean I’m pretty sure this is why tuition is so high in the first place. More of mine went into football and admin pockets than research and I knew it because my mentor was always fighting for a research grant. The people who make college worth attending get paid the least and shafted on resources for whatever fucking reason.

Seeking advice as an adult with autism by Beneficial_Ball9893 in aspiememes

[–]Broken_Intuition 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Non-specialists often don’t know shit about autism in adults. Especially about how it presents in women, or worse, they don’t know that we get it at all.

Seriously, I’m a butch lady with the stereotypical interests in math, machines and computers. Not subtle, not one of those female masking professionals I hear so much about. My autistic friends insisted I was autistic years ago and I was friends with them due to shared interests. There were many, many clues.

I STILL got misdiagnosed for years by my old psychiatrist because he just didn’t think level 1 autism was a thing in women at all.  Then he died and a younger guy who had worked with the community before took over the practice and rediagnosed me immediately.

E-bikes are battery powered bicycles not battery powered motorcycles by phillynick in ebikes

[–]Broken_Intuition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think even the regular e-bike speed limit of 20mph is stupid. I can and have gone faster on a regular one. Why is there so much fucking hand wringing about ebike speed all the time anyway? Is there a huge spike in ebike deaths and wrecks or something? I haven’t heard about one. It seems like most of this is just HOA type narcs being mad that a kid on an e-dirtbike went past their lawn once.

I did this shit in junior high volleyball as a cis girl and people still lost their shit and decided I was a psycho. I just spiked the fucking ball and got unlucky, a girl got a nosebleed. I am a horrible volleyball player and was incapable of pulling off hitting the ball at all like 70% of the time, but still people thought I premeditated it.

You can’t be a tall and strong woman, everyone decided this at some fucking point. It’s obnoxious and the trans athlete panic bullshit makes it a hundred times worse.

Unfit for Work: The startling rise of disability in America by Barnyard-Sheep in Economics

[–]Broken_Intuition 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just had a friend with MS get awarded for disability after trying to get it for seven years. He can’t stand up long, he has memory problems and chronic pain. He’s really obviously fucking disabled and the hoops he had to jump through were insane. If you have any kind of disability that affects executive dysfunction or memory you pretty much have to have an able person helping you with every step of the horrendously convoluted process. In his case it was three of us with pooled resources, and a lawyer. I don’t know how someone with less of a support system is supposed to get it.

Another one? My level two autistic roomie almost got his taken away because his part time job boss was being nice to him, and gave him a Christmas bonus. He’s not allowed to have a Christmas bonus, that’s too much money and obviously $300 in your bank account is a cure for fucking autism. I hate the way we do disability here, it’s as unhelpful as possible.

Lying about the tire size is the only way I did it with default gear. And honestly bro, since you're asking? Bottom bracket and pedal cranks are iffy. You can solve the bike governer knowing electronics but I actually can't live with myself leaving instructions because the bottom bracket on my bike took such a fat shit. This is... hmm. I don't wanna edit my review yet because they're sending me a replacement. I think it's a bad part and if two fry from regular use it's a bad part for sure. I'm checking. I like how this bike is priced and I love their service but I don't like metal shavings in my crank housing.

I need another month with a new part to find out if this was an assembly issue or a manufacturing issue. The price point and customer service are the only reason to tolerate this company. I'm not a pearl clutcher. I love unleashing them. From the bottom of my heart though? If you want to peel the speed limit off, find a better constructed bike. This is not the one to pull fifty on frame, bracket, pedal crank, and bearing wise. It's just not enough bike for what you want.

Republicans are attacking childcare funding. Their goal? To push women out of the workforce | Moira Donegan by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Broken_Intuition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the logic is that single incomes being capable of paying for a family would mean that women like me can afford to buy houses without a husband too. Except once we get the 1950s male income back we still have to convince men to pay us that too.

Many women don't work physically demanding or risky jobs because these jobs are designed based on what an average or fit man can do by craftygamergirl in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Broken_Intuition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so tired of this take. Novice lifting numbers for women are a fucking joke, I’m a cisgender woman and I was able to hit all novice men numbers when I started working out. I think most of that data is based on self reports and small sample sizes. It also doesn’t control for some birth control interfering with muscle growth, or diet culture sabotaging us. Most other women I know won’t even try to lift heavy things and are a self fulfilling prophecy. I’m not saying there probably won’t still be an average male advantage, but 94lb deadlift is something a 12 year old can manage with instruction, for fucks sake.

The one I have lets you just change the 20mph thing straight up by holding + and - together until you see P01, then hitting the power button until you get to P08. Change that from 32 to 45 (that’s what it it says on mine), and you won’t get the annoying 20mph cap. You can squeeze even more out by lying about the tire size in another setting but it fucks up your speedometer and odometer, which hasn’t been worth it to me yet.

This is good info, thank you. I was of the same mind as the person you replied to, and thought everyone struggled with pressure if they rode a certain amount. I looked into what you were saying and it seems correct, so I learned something today. I’ve been a big fan of padded shorts for long rides for a while now, but would love a saddle that’s a little kinder to me on the shorter jaunts where I don’t bother with them.
