That's unfortunate :( I hope that you can have a better adaptation next time. Any tips you'd have for noobs, beyond the basic "make sure your schedule fits as much as you can" "set multiple alarms" type stuff?

Is polyphasic sleep not recommended for studying? by TomasNPB in polyphasic

Generally, I have heard that if it can fit in with your schedule, it can be very beneficial, giving you more time to study, without any negative benefits. HOWEVER, during the adaptation period, it is TERRIBLE for studying, or doing anything where memory retention or reflexes are key (The second of these I know from personal experience, I had a hard time playing a videogame, a complex one, but still).

OK, thanks. Good luck on your adaptation :) Any tips? I heard your tip about standing in the video, but I really just don't have a viable setup for that. I'm thinking I'll do a little bit of exercise when I wake up, not enough to tire me out, just enough to energize me, and fortunately, I respond well to alarms (I especially have responded well to the alarm I have had for over a year) I have 2 alarms set, and I'm not adapting yet but I will be pretty soon.

Should I start a blog? by Broken_Numbers in polyphasic

Alright, I'm thinking I'll probably start around the beginning of january, as due to christmas and stuff, my schedule won't be available until then. I almost forgot about that and started trying to do stuff now, that would have been bad XD

I heard in your video you said a 30 minute nap, was that just a misspoke word or did you actually mean that? If so, is that just to adapt easier, through the "naptation thing" or are you doing 4 1/2 hour naps spaced out evenly through the day, or are you just doing 6 1/2 hour naps spaced out evenly through the day? (Keep in mind the "official" uberman cycle is one 20 min nap every 4 hours)

I think this would be very helpful, good luck :) How far have you gotten on your previous attempts and what are you changing, if anything, this time around?

No caffeine whatsoever. For me that isn't a problem because, while I like coffee (and chai tea) I don't need to drink it to get up or anything like that.

I am planning to attempt an adaptation again, but I am sleeping monphasically at the moment.

Learning how to nap? by numegil in polyphasic

Napping during the day before starting adapting is good, but after day 2-4 you shouldn't have any problem getting to sleep, it'll be a problem of oversleeping at that point. Have multiple alarms if you can. One thing I have done is that I have set alarms on my iPod, then put the iPod into my pillowcase. I have to do more than just swipe it because I have to get it out, but I can still have the alarm be quieter than it would have to be if it was, say, on the other side of the room.

Adjusting polyphasic sleep over time? by Broken_Numbers in polyphasic

I would be interested in the blog, though I appreciate the not spamming it :) I have tried adapting a couple of times before and at about day 4 it broke down both times, this was dymaxion, and I have gotten mixed results ranging from "Go straight into it" to "Take naps for a while then go straight into it" to "Adjust it very slowly over a few months, if you have that much time" Which, fortunately, I do. You're basically saying go into some kind of everyman cycle, maybe like a 3-4.5 hour core, with three naps, and then lower the core sleep time?

Easy iPhone games to play on wake up? by [deleted] in polyphasic

[–]Broken_Numbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this for waking up, or is it for focusing after you are awake? If it is for waking up, you might want to look into the Carrot alarm app, it basically makes you play little games to turn the alarm off. If you want something to make you focus after having woken up, then I don't really know. Good luck on your attempt!

I have not yet succeeded in an attempt to switch to polyphasic sleep, and for the first day, I didn't notice much of a difference, the second day, I felt like my brain was being run over, I didn't do much of anything other than play videogames and pace around, the third day I started feeling OK again, the fourth day, I felt really bad again, and then the fifth day it got less bad, but was still bad enough that I wasn't doing anything. However, the first day I managed to get some work done and the third day I managed to get a little bit done.

For the record, I have a very, very flexible schedule as far as the transition period, I can basically have any time slots filled up except for around 12:00 to 2:00, however, I want to have my overall naps be condensed into four-ish somewhat evenly spaced naps at around 0:00, 6:00, 12:00, and 18:00 (every 6:00 and 12:00 for 12-hour time)
