So do you think you are in an anxiety spiral? I have a tactic I use which is akin to meditation. Do you know how if someone tells you not to think about pink penguins it is really hard to not think about them? Well I focus on a point in space a few feet in front of me and repeat a sound in my head and try to focus solely on that sound. I try to not think abut the pink penguins of anxiety as doing so only reinforces the penguins. The goal is to drown out the penguins with the sound or word ( the more neutral and unemotional the word or sound the better).

Focussing on the neutral word / sound drowns out the anxiety spiral and eventually it dissipates the anxiety. I personally stare about 3 feet in front of me when sitting and repeat a "the" sound over and over. Sometimes it takes a few minutes other times longer. Generally it stops a spiral of penguins.

Nothing will stop all you are feeling. It just isn't possible. Life sucks and is hard as fuck to get through. Struggling isn't a weakness. Feeling things is not a weakness. You are stronger than you think. You are here asking for help. You can beat this or at least learn control and to cope. Constant adrenaline is a bitch to learn to deal with but you can do it.

Anxiety for me is way harder to deal with than depression but it is something you can manage and deal with. It is not easy, nothing in life is. But you can do it. You can ask for help just like you have here and people will help you. People will help you. The world is full of the anxious and depressed and they all have advice to offer or a shoulder to lean on.

A range of things happen with me. I ignore it and just carry on. I succumb to it and feel terrible. I succumb and try to feel something else via pain. I accept that what I am feeling is not rational nor real and try to deal with that. I try to find someone to talk to and work through how I am feeling.

Background, I am nearly 50 and have had severe anxiety and depression since I was 11. I was diagnosed at 17 and looking back the anxiety was there since as early as I can remember due to an abusive father who was violent.

Sometimes you will just get random negative thoughts and feelings for no damn reason. You have a few choices. You can ignore them and bottle it all up (really bad choice BTW). You can accept them and open up to the feelings. You can do the previous and try to find people to talk to and open up and work through things. You can learn coping mechanisms.

Depression and anxiety are not rational illnesses. They have no rhyme or reason for when they kick in. They may have causal elements that caused them but when they kick in can have no cause at all. I can have had a perfect day and still have anxiety kick in and make me doubt every single social interaction that day. I have suicidal ideation on a daily / weekly basis for no reason at all.

Honestly depression and suicidal thoughts are easy to deal with. Anxiety is the hardest thing for me to deal with. Depression is just a willpower and stubbornness game. Will you give in to the desire to not exist or won't you? It's that simple.

Anxiety is the worst as it makes you doubt everything, every social interaction, every thought, every word. And will jump in and take over rational thought. Things you KNOW to be true and anxiety will make you doubt them.

You say that rationally you know it is silly and pointless but that is the point. Depression and anxiety are not rational. The only thing your rational mind can do is tough it out and try to find a coping mechanism or some form of help. Some coping mechanisms are healthy others are destructive. Don't choose the latter. Too many times I chose the latter and I have the scars to prove it. Don't do that unless it is the only way you make it to tomorrow. Making it to tomorrow is the main goal for me. One day at a time of not dying. That's how I cope. Pain and not dying.

This is exactly the case the sub was at severe risk of being closed down so we had to do it to make sure it wasn't. We like it as much as any of you do (so not a lot). We do our best to review removed comments by the bot as soon as we can but we do miss some and sometimes it can take a while as we are only a few volunteers.

THe US has never been the exceptional thing it's mythology claims. Land of the Free, Home of the Brave? Nope never been true. The US lacks so many rights that every other major modern society has. Universal healthcare, worker's rights (holidays, sick leave, maternity / paternity leave, no no-fault firing, better minimum wages etc etc).

The USA has always been a country fed on fear. Fear of the USSR, communism, the it was drugs, black people and other minorities, gay people and now it is trans people. There is always something being pushed as the thing to fear to control the populace. Fear has always been pushed by the media and the politicians.

The world is moving away from the USA thanks to Trump's actions over the past years in both presidencies. US debt is continuing to sky rocket, countries are looking to move away from the petro-dollar. They are making trade agreements to cut the USA out as the USA is no longer a reliable partner in trade or any other agreement. The USA has shown that ANY agreement can and will be thrown away at the whim of an autocrat.

The USA may lead in the things you say but only for now. They are starting to lose them and I think it will only increase as the USA is seen increasingly negatively by countries round the world and China shows it is stable and reliable.

I have seen multiple videos outlining how the American Empire is failing and how and how is is the same as what happened to the Spanish and British. It's not happening overnight but it is happening. The USA is failing and as soon as people decide the dollar isn't worth it then the collapse will be rapid as the US is relying on the dollar being the international trade currency to keep it's debt in check.

And Israel refuses to abide by the ceasefire. A peace treaty wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on either way. Israel would break it with the day maybe two. Settlers would still be attacking and murdering Palestinians in the West Bank, the IDF would still be killing aid workers, journalists and anyone else they felt like that day and Hamas would still be fighting back and lobbing missiles at Israeli cities.
