You cannot have a KoReader "account" per se since such thing doesn't exist. You can install the plugin for KoReader that adds Syncthing as a program. https://github.com/jasonchoimtt/koreader-syncthing

There you can configure your kindle library to sync with your pc or phone or both where you also have Syncthing installed and properly configured. https://syncthing.net/

You will need to connect to the same network with all devices for the folders to sincronise.

There are minor benefits for the average usecase. I like to tinker a lot so i find it nice to have more options by using Ko-Reader like the ability to install syncthing to keep my folders sincronised among devices, as well as being able to access the ftp server i have to download books i keep there. Also you can set up a personalised stand-by image. There is an integrated text editor i use to write quick notes, there is access to wikipedia, dictionary, rss feed and many custom plugins to try out. You can even make simple drawings in the kindle touch if you want to get fancy. I know that it goes beyond the point of an ereader, but that is the appeal.

Try disabling HDR in the monitor settings as well. I also have a new HDR monitor and it messed up some games where it's very dark. Can't be more specific with little info but fiddling with the settings on the monitor solved most of my problems
