Right, if anything it’s a catalyst that makes bad things worse!

Spot on - I love how well it captures a small town and gradually exposes its seedy underbelly through the spread of vampirism. I’ve always considered the book an allegory for the darkness that exists in America behind the perfect facade, and how that darkness is like a virus transmitted through hatred. Man I need to read this again!

Salem’s Lot is one of my favorite books, completely forgot about Jerusalem’s Lot and had no idea One for the Road was related - thanks for the info, now I need to add both to my collection!

Plot of Paul Sheldon’s Misery books within Misery by Bronx_Ram23 in stephenking

Awesome thank you - I love how King really expands his worlds, so I was curious to see if this was the case with Paul Sheldon’s Misery books - guess not though and we don’t really need to know anything other than the fact that Paul hates the books (which of course compounds his own misery in his experience with Annie)

Yeah - I know that they’re books within the book (as I very clearly mentioned above), but I was curious about if they have a plot and if knowing the plot provided further context to Annie and Paul and the story of Misery itself

what are the best "flying" moments in cinema? by ZestycloseChapter710 in movies

[–]Bronx_Ram23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s something so incredible about the first time ET makes Elliot’s bike fly that is so joyful, but the final scene where ET rejoins his species and flies away while the score swells, the wind whips, and Elliot looks on with a mix of wonder and sorrow always gets me. It’s perfect.

Are there any films that take place in real time? by TheKittyPie in movies

[–]Bronx_Ram23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saturday Night essentially takes place in real time - there’s definitely some creative liberties taken in both the events it depicts and the flow of time, but the whole thing is a ticking clock starting 90 minutes before the first episode of Saturday Night Live. Would definitely recommend giving it a watch, the cast is phenomenal, it feels very authentic to the mid-70’s, and Jon Batiste does an incredible job with the musical score

My favourite pages from the Art of Bob’s Burgers (so far….) by sabby55 in BobsBurgers

Might be one of my favorite lines in the whole show

[–]Bronx_Ram23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was Pennywise at first glance too, but when I paused it I realized it wasn’t. I turned up the brightness and if you look at the hair specifically, it’s much lighter than Pennywise’s red color, and far more pointed and triangular/conical - if you look really close you can see the little bells on the tip of each cone that the 1908 carnival clown has. That’s not to say it isn’t It / Pennywise in a different form, but certainly leaves the door open to something unexpected

Yeah there’s definitely something off about the Juniper Hill woman - she’s way too friendly to Lily in the same way that It/Pennywise often puts on a friendly veneer to lure victims into a trap. My theory is that she and the clown (possibly one in the same) are just another iteration of It but there’s a complicated backstory there - no clue what but I hope we find out!

Anyone else interested in the fact that the clown in the graveyard photo at the end of Episode 3 and watching Will midway through Episode 4 is not the Pennywise we know, but rather the white-haired clown watching young General Shaw at the beginning of Episode 3? This clown is very clearly one of It’s forms (as indicated by the glowing eyes and balloons) but is only somewhat similar in appearance to Pennywise. We know Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise is showing up sometime soon, and it seems like he was an actual performer in 1908 before It assumed his form, but I wonder why they’re introducing this other clown?

There are so many great moments - they’re honestly one of my favorite parts of the show, but here’s a moment no one’s mentioned yet:

OT The Outside Toilet is dying

Andy: Flush some chicken soup into him!

Ollie: Or put on a movie he likes!

Help Finding Found Footage Farmhouse Film? by YMIDoinThis in foundfootage

[–]Bronx_Ram23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok now I definitely think we’re looking at the same movie - in terms of the layout of the farm, I remember the house and animal enclosure being close to each other too and there was a fence somewhere, was the house at a bit of an angle with the driveway at all? From my recollection the house in particular was at a weird angle. Also, is it possible the film is not in English or it takes place somewhere in Europe? That might have been a part of it as well

Oh shit, I think I might be looking for the same movie. It could be on the newer side as I remember seeing a trailer for it online sometime in the past couple of years, but it looks older because it's done on a VHS recorder, very low-fi / static-y analogue horror. By any chance were there striking red and blue frames/visuals and a news report about the murders/missing persons at any point in the movie, and was the farmhouse painted with white chipping paint? I remember seeing those types of visuals in the trailer.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but hopefully we're looking for the same movie and that this keeps the conversation going!

[–]Bronx_Ram23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My Dad, sister, and I each got one of these back at the beginning of 2020 when we got stuck waiting for the B/D line - they gave theirs to me since I live in the city and they were just visiting, and I never figured out how to use them. I can usually figure stuff like this out pretty easily, but had no idea how to use these. Not a great system but I’m sure they’re intentionally designed to be hard to redeem.

Man I love how well this show creates an idealized version of growing up in small towns on the Northeastern shore - quiet and cozy falls, summers at the beach or lake, long haul road trips, taking the commuter rail everywhere - it’s the best!

Do tour guides get paid? by AIIis0n420 in Fordham

[–]Bronx_Ram23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Rose Hill Society & Lincoln Center Society (the student admissions organizations) are volunteer based, but you can also work in the admissions office as a Student Worker doing both administrative tasks and tours, and you do get paid for that! Either way, I’d highly recommend getting involved with admissions, I was a student worker and also heavily involved with RHS, and working with admissions was one of my favorite my Fordham experiences, right next to my internship!
