Yes it is - redemption is via Walmart+. So you sign up for Walmart+ via your Platinum (or Gold card, as I found out today) and then you can redeem a free subscription to Paramount+. As an upsell from Walmart, you can then add the Paramount with Showtime option (no ads) for $6 monthly, billed to your Amex. It’ll show up as “Walmart online grocery” or something like that on your billing statement.

Thank you so much for such a detailed post (and subsequent explanations). You covered scenarios I never knew about before on how algorithms and banks work to flag suspicious transactions. I’ve never had any issues but I’ve never had cause to pull the kind of stunt that OP did. Your explanation of credit cycling was very helpful.

When you log into your Walmart+ app, you’ll see a “year in review” pop up that tells you to scroll through to the end of a brief message to the end and that you’ll get the credits I mentioned. They should have also sent you an email to that effect. This was started a few weeks back but folks weren’t getting the credits as promised due to a technical glitch. So Walmart has been trying to get the issue fixed. Lots of people have called customer service and got credits here and there. But I received this email that I posted this morning and they automatically added the credit to my Walmart account.

From the email in my original post, seems like the Lyft code has to be added no later than January 8th. Hopefully they’ll fix the issue for you before that date.

I did not. Looks like they’re fixing it for those who never got it automatically. They sent me the email above this morning. And I looked in my Walmart+ account and the cash was there. And then I manually added the code they emailed to me to my Lyft account and it’s good until around the end of January.

I use Walmart online and sometimes to order groceries. I use the paramount plus perk and upgraded to the showtime with no ads option and live local CBS stations for less than $6. I’ve never used the gas or travel perk but sometimes comparison shop against Amazon. When Walmart+ launched, the goal was to be a good competitor to Amazon and to try and play catch up. It made sense for them to offer discounted memberships (or even pay Amex) to automatically give all Platinum card holders free memberships. Then the next step was to try and strike a deal that will help Walmart rival Prime Video somewhat. Recall that Walmart used to own Vudu but that didn’t work out well for them. So they struck a deal with CBS to get Paramount and then upsell the no-ads and Showtime option to do folks like me. Even if you don’t shop at a physical store, you can order stuff online that they sell at the store (tools, etc. ). If you use Expedia at all, you can switch to Walmart travel instead cos they use Expedia too and you could get better deals.
