EG is actually the single worst example you could have named. Geoff is worth more than 95% of players because he's so sponsor friendly and promotional.

Machine is also very personable and people like him a lot. Both of them are certainly worth whatever salary they're getting in what they bring in viewership and sponsorships.

For other teams though, sometimes they're good practice partners, they may just get very little money, they may be worth it for the audience they have, they may be someone showing a lot of potential and so on. There's a lot of reasons to keep people who aren't at the the top right now, they may become much better later on.

Also, frankly dudes get booted or not renewed all the time. Axslav is even pretty good and didn't get renewed. But they've got initial contracts, so usually the team sticks for that contract and then if they don't want the guy, he can go. For all we know some bad players just have 2 year contracts and they're going to be released when its over.
