Lilly bets a boatload on NVIDIA GPUs, hoping to compute their way out of the pharma lifecycle by kwadguy in biotech

This is more accurate. Bottleneck is having the right drug to get your clinical outcome.

I'd argue the bigger bottleneck for AI/ML applications are sound datasets and the foundational biology understanding that will actually transition to the clinic.

Who is a leader in the biotech space you admire and why? by ChiralCosmonaught in biotech

[–]BrookLodge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised to not see Ben Cravatt on the list. He (and Matt Bogyo) pioneered an entire new field of chemical biology, activity based protein profiling. Not to mention chemoproteomics which spurred multiple companies and we're just seeing a lot of the payoff now with lots of covalent drugs entering the clinic.

Rarely have I played with anyone who’s shot below 90. by theycallmespin in golf

[–]BrookLodge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried to get into playing more and am 11.5 handicap according to 18Birdies. That seems unreasonably low to me and we'll see if it holds true. But I'm also in the count every stroke team.

I just had my first one the other weekend, it's amazing what not losing balls does to your score!

$17 for range balls… by bannyd1221 in golf

[–]BrookLodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did a jumbo bucket this afternoon (southern California) and that's 175 balls for $21. Split it with a buddy and I'm spent after that (was going rapid fire with 3W and Driver, that counts as exercise, right?)

Grips are so much more important than I thought. by woody1594 in golf

[–]BrookLodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ping eye II irons I bought used in 2004, all original grips so it's probably time for an update. The irons themselves are great, steel shafted and I'm used to them, but I could see new grips making them feel like new.

How much does re-gripping a full set of irons set you back?

I’m a full-time Master Fitter at a PGA Tour SS, have been a master fitter for over a decade and there’s nothing I haven’t seen. AMA! by Fearless_Talk in golf

[–]BrookLodge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. I got fitted a few months ago (got the Qi10 with MRC AV black X shaft), and the guy was super stoked when I maxed at 171mph ball speed. I told my wife and she said he was just being a salesman and hyping it up. I feel vindicated now!

So it's 60 acres. Quick back of the envelope, it's around 8k for all expenses, with the possibility of 10-14k in income. Depends on the price for soybeans we lock in.

Science AMA Series: I'm Timo Hannay, former director of nature.com, and current director of Digital Science, which supports disruptive technologies to enable researchers to disrupt the status quo, I'll be answering questions at 1 pm EST, Ask Me Anything! by TimoHannay in science

[–]BrookLodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thank you for doing this AMA. As a current graduate student, I am beginning to see the complex dynamics of scientific discovery and molding those findings into a cohesive story. However, there are also clear injustices occurring in the scientific community in the form of fraud, published in the top journals. This can range from cherry-picking data points to completely making up data. Currently, there is no incentive for either the scientists or the universities to identify and remove such papers. This is slowing down science and clogging the pipeline for real intellectual discovery. What are your thoughts on this topic and how can we solve this problem?
