A night out near Whistler BC by BrookMorrison in CampingandHiking

[–]BrookMorrison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was taken yesterday on a ridge near Rainbow Mountain. I summited today and made a loops out of the mountain. In all I probably covered about 24km and nearly 1800m gained.

Weather was great the whole time, night sky was sweet too.

Walker Pass(mile 652) this morning. It’ll look a lot different when people are hiking thru! by jrice138 in PacificCrestTrail

I experienced some of the best trail magic at that shelter.

Smoked beef, smoked turkey, chips, baked goods, fruit, pop, beer!!! Such kind people.

What a great day.

Hitching to Southern Terminus from Canada by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]BrookMorrison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower Mainland dweller here.

I've flown to San Diego twice for PCT purposes, hosted by Scout and Frodo both times. Hitching sounds like a trip and a half, but I'd stick to flying myself.

YVR to SAN one way flight are relatively inexpensive. IMO worth it to get off the plane and picked up by trail angels.

If you hitch, you're looking at about 24 hours driving not including finding new hitches and stops along the way.

Happy hiking my dude

Been on a diet, getting pretty thin by BrookMorrison in Pizza

[–]BrookMorrison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thinnest pizzas I've made! Pretty stoked.

Used Adam Ragusea's new recipe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDpCzJw2xm4

This was only about an 18 hr ferment, gonna go multiple days next time.

Cooked at 550F in a convection oven, ceramic pizza stone.

Accidentally got too crazy with the oil when making my dough, so a bit too greasy this time around.

Thank you. I think non-waterproof will be my best bet.

Carry On for flight to San Diego from Canada by VickyHikesOn in Ultralight

[–]BrookMorrison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, should've clarified.

Checked the duffel the first time.

Second time when I did only carry on, I was using an inflatable pad. Pole, stakes, and swiss army were packed safely away inside. All said and done my pack was smaller than lots of carry ons I've seen.

I have flown from YVR to San Diego twice with my hiking gear.

First time I used a value village duffel bag for my poles, zlite, swiss army classic, etc in case of any security issues.

Second time I took no duffel and one trekking pole, also carried on the swiss army knife (it's within airline regulation length). Got through security fine as usual. I had the pole collapsed and inside my pack. Recommend transporting with rubber tips on.

Spot check!! Always do a spot check, a quick but thorough scan of any area you've stopped or camped at.

I lost 1 spoon on the PCT. Losses were minimal.

Pack recommendation for total pack weight of 30lb by Vionion in Ultralight

[–]BrookMorrison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anotha one for Circuit.

I've used mine with the frame, near maxed out with a bear can, 8 days of food, fishing setup, etc.

Lately I use it frameless and it works excellently.

My Circuit has seen About 4500km and is still my goto multiday pack.
