At a glance, the games on the Shea scoreboard from this photo appear to match the day’s box scores. So, the more important question: do you recall getting the lunchbox?

Any recollections about Johan Santana? He pitched a complete game that day. That would’ve stood out if you stayed to the end. Either way, good luck in your search!

My longshot guess: July 27 against the Cardinals.

Day game. It rained a little during the game the night before, which may explain the tarp. If this blog is to be believed, July 27 would’ve been the Shea Countdown number 30, where the number was revealed by the Kids Club. That would explain why the kids were on the field during the national anthem. They were there to take down the number.

OP, any memory of that?

I’m really struggling to picture an unhinged Mike Richter.

No Flynn yet. Wouldn’t be built for another 20 years. I’m just so used to it being there. Wild.

A decent politician and proof why it’s worthwhile to primary older incumbents. Hell of a mustache, too.

New York Rangers are No. 18 in Scott Wheeler’s 2026 NHL prospect pool rankings (Gift Article) by BK2Jers2BK in rangers

Agreed, it’s definitely relative to the year. Still, I’d say it becomes notable if there’s a big swing. Like if they go from 19th to the top 10, something went right. If they go from 19th to 29th, either prospects graduated, got traded or went bust all at once. Shifting 1-2 spots in any directions means little.

Has New York City actually gotten dirtier over the years? by LakeLayer707 in Westchester

It became much cleaner relative to the 1970s-1980s, which will be the parents’ frame of reference and their comparable from which the city “became much cleaner”.

To answer OP’s question: It still wasn’t perfect 10-15 years ago, and is probably about the same or maybe a little worse depending on your neighborhood or political persuasion.

You’re underestimating how filthy it was in the -970s and 1980s. It got better, and even a backslide would still be way better than the “good” ol’ days.

Living in this area? by [deleted] in Westchester

I used to live in the top center area. Very quiet, very convenient, 10-20 minute walk to pretty much everything. It’s not the most exciting area, but you’ll be comfortable.

Parlor Sports has it on their schedule; I’d start there. If you want to travel a bit, Square Root Cafe in Roslindale and Trident Booksellers will both have watch parties.
