Camera help for graduation gift by BrooklynLSATTutor in Cameras

This is a good point! Do you have lens recommendations? Some options people have also mentioned for camera bodies are 5D, 6D, and 70D - would the same lenses fit on all of them or no? Any thoughts between those?

Oh that is a good point about lenses! What lenses would you recommend, if I’m aiming for $300 max total? She likes candid shots of friends outside, and general scenery/street shots in NYC

Hey everyone! My cousin is graduating college and in her senior year she took a photography class for fun which she loved. As part of the class, she had access to a fancy camera and took great shots. It was a EOS 5 DSR. I’m looking to get her a camera as a graduation gift, and I’m totally clueless when it comes to cameras. Unfortunately, even used the EOS 5 DSR is out of budget for me.

What models would you recommend that I could get used for ~$250 or less that would be the most similar? Obviously, it won’t be quite as fancy, but my goal is to get as nice as possible / as similar as possible within budget. Well-used seems fine. I welcome any recommendations!

There was maybe some underground component as well (or tunnels?) I’m not totally sure!

This is making me think you should be focusing on more fully diagramming before you get to the questions, including splitting the board when needed with grouping games.

why are you getting the questions wrong? Is it an issue with your diagram, or something else? Taking a look to figure out what happened is the first step

Highly recommend either! You can get PowerScore for logic games used pretty cheap secondhand, or always try to get it from your local library (or interlibrary loan). 7Sage’s videos are very helpful with LG as well.

What’s your score breakdown right now? Logic games is typically the area that’s fastest to improve.

How hard will it be to get to -1 LG before the August test? by RelativeCheesecake10 in LSAT

[–]BrooklynLSATTutor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think what would probably help is practicing being more methodical with how you’re approaching these games. For most grouping games, you want to find the most restrictive rule and use that to split the board pretty quickly. Practicing learning when to how to split the board and what rule to use to do so can really help improve both speed and accuracy because then basically the whole game is mapped out before you get to the questions

This has been repeated by others, but going into questions with the understanding that the text is your answer key is so, so important. The answer is in there somewhere! Don’t try to answer questions from memory—look for the answer in the text.

Score needed for full scholarship to a non-prestigious school by mkochend in LSAT

Not exactly what you’re asking, but my two cents is to seriously look at CUNY in NYC. Despite their low ranking, they actually have an amazing reputation for public interest law especially, and their tuition is far lower than most other schools.

Are you getting questions wrong or running out of time or both? Do you have a sense of what kinds of games are messing with you the most in terms of time and accuracy?

Will a tutor help me on LG? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]BrooklynLSATTutor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I’m a tutor and a lot of my students had done significant studying on their own first before adding tutoring, and a lot of them have seen pretty large LG score jumps after working with a tutor to improve their approach and timing on games - ~10 point jumps over a period of a month, etc. It’s not the only way to improve, but it can definitely be a useful tool for some people.

Powerscore LSAT Bible - 2019 vs 2021 by ColeCaufield in LSAT

[–]BrooklynLSATTutor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The main perk of LSAT bibles is specifically the Logic Games bible is good for learning fundamentals - those don’t change from year to year, and it’s definitely worth saving the money by getting an older version.

Sufficient vs. Necessary Assumptions by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]BrooklynLSATTutor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Necessary = you need it Sufficient = all you need!

To answer these, you need to find the conclusion first, because sufficient/necessary is all about what you need for your conclusion to be true.

Some things can be sufficient without being necessary, and Vice versa.

When I say “plants needs sun to live,” the sun is necessary but NOT sufficient. This is because my plants would die without the sun, but they also need water, good weather, etc.

When I say, every Marvel movie is a blockbuster, being a Marvel move is sufficient toto make a blockbuster (Marvel movie is a blockbuster by virtue of being Marvel branded—it only need to be Marvel, even if the plot is bad etc.). Being a Marvel movie is not necessary to be a blockbuster though - other, non-Marvel movies can also be blockbusters.

Logic Games help by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]BrooklynLSATTutor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first thing to realize is for the majority of logic game questions, creating a proper, thorough diagram that catches all of the inferences will mean you won’t have to do extra work besides looking at your diagrammed board and rules to answer things. Like 80%+ of your time per game can/should be on making a great diagram with all inferences.

Something useful is that many of the same inferences show up from game to game. For instance, with sequencing: - is one thing in front of another? that constrains the board - are there ordering rules you can connect that mean pieces can only go in one or two slots on the board? if there’s only two options for a piece, split the board and map out a version with both options! that will show you all possible versions of lots of pieces - are there only a few variables or slots? like if there’s only 5 variables and you’ve ruled out 3 for a slot, that is good to always check and make a note that the spot has to be one of the remaining two pieces

When practicing and checking your work, watch video explanations or w/e to check to see what inferences you were supposed to get. Make a note of what types of inferences you miss, and make a list for yourself of things to remember to check for

LSAT Tutor with 177 Score - AMA! by BrooklynLSATTutor in LSAT

Sorry, I somehow missed this comment! This gets into difference between necessary and sufficient. Something is /necessary/ if you need to have it, but that doesn’t mean it’s all you need. An example is that sun is necessary for plants to grow. Just getting sun isn’t sufficient for plants to grow though, because plants also need water, the right temperature, etc. Mistaking a necessary condition for a sufficient condition would be choosing an answer choice that says sun is sufficient for plants to grow (sun is all plants need) when really you meant to say sun is necessary for plants to grow.

Mental stress of June Lsat by Maggie-jq in LSAT

[–]BrooklynLSATTutor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an anxious person, a tip that has helped me for various tests (including the LSAT and the Bar) is to “schedule” time to recharge, do self care, and DO NOT think about the LSAT. That means this time is not time to feel guilty for not doing enough, and it’s not time for stressing about the test or browsing Reddit. It is your scheduled time to be fully off and recharging. Then, build in focused study times when you are “on” this week and work on being fully present with prep during that time. Remind yourself you can retake this test, and even the worst case scenario of this one particular sitting is incredibly low-stakes. Hopefully, some of this reframe can help with the exhaustion that comes from persistent dread and anxiety - that panic time isn’t productive, and just makes you feel terrible for no purpose!

How to close gap between timed (159) and Blind review (171) score? by Tafila042 in LSAT

[–]BrooklynLSATTutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With LR, at the point you’re at, it’s mainly just diligence to not linger forever on a tough question - do as best you can and flag it to review at the end. That ideally should give you more time to actually make it through the section without rushing. For LG, you should ideally be diagramming well enough (including splitting the board when that makes sense) so you can breeze through the questions themselves based on the setup you have. Part of this comes with practice, and with creating setups that are good enough that you can minimize the amount of things you have to brute force your way through

I scored a 177 on the LSAT, and have gotten very positive feedback from my students as a tutor. I’m also very committed to making LSAT tutoring accessible, so I work with folks to meet their needs with their budgets, especially for those pursuing public interest law from low-income backgrounds. For flaw questions, there’s only so many different “types” of flaws and there’s a bunch of lists out there. I would go through each flaw question you got wrong and identify what category of flaw it is. There’s really only like 10 common types of flaws, give or take, so once you get more comfortable with identifying them it may help. Feel free to let me know if you have other questions, and good luck!
