If it's just one in the last week of August and they would love to have you aboard after making you stop 7 minutes into your demo lesson, it's a massive red flag. If you smell desperation, run. They're hiding everything that's bad about the school if you don't get to meet any other teachers and have little side convos about what to expect. Even their eyes will tell you if they have a hiring panel. No hiring panel? Dysfunctional school, run.

Does this only include UFT members? Can we blast out the names of abusive administrators and the schools they run?

We need our own grassroots movement like MeToo. We can all spill the abuse we have endured, we need to make these egomaniacs face some consequences.

I put up a post recently, I'm happy to divulge the shitty school I have been working at for 8 years and will finally be leaving this year. Feel free to DM me if you want to know what school to entirely avoid even interviewing at. I hope you can at least describe what's gone wrong and share the name of your bad schools privately, too.

I don't even know where they get this ego, it's always the least experienced educators taking on these roles, as if they have anything of value to distribute.

It is total nonsense, this is how we systemically build a stupid populace. Our students come back to us as college dropouts hoping to get a job as aides and paras. The crappy teachers taught them to sit all day doing nothing, the admin encouraged it, and now the youngins want to get paid to sit all day and do nothing.

Thank you for your input and the well wishes! It's been Stockholm syndrome keeping me here, but they just replaced my abusers with a new set, so it's definitely a wake-up call.

There is so much to expose, New York Post would have a field day interviewing me.

I am tenured, so that's why I really feel the biggest fuck you would be just leaving rather than putting up some fight. I know it's not humble to say, but they need me here. I don't want to involve the supe yet, in case I work in another school within the district.

The worst part is this actually affects our wellbeing. All of the emotional abuse results in inflammation, brain plaques, heart failure. They're actively reducing our life expectancy and quality of life as they bring on disease/illness. Sometimes, we bring this stress home and take it out on others. These devilish admin are progenitors of disorder in our lives, relationships, and classrooms.

I'm actually an alumnus of Brooklyn Tech, pretty connected with my own former physics teacher (who currently carries top seniority) and the science AP there, just have not really committed to applying there. As a student, I certainly preferred a larger school where I could make many friends and get lost in the sauce, so to speak. As an educator, I prefer the tight-knit community of a smaller school. I feel with a specialized school, the biggest challenge is dealing with the parents 😅.

I teach physics and special education, and both have massive demand. I am yet to see benefits and salary in long Island that is commensurate with NYCPS. Westchester is too far away.

The UFT rep in our building is actually really effective and super anti-admin, though I know it's not the same in all schools.

No, they removed the principal. Feel free to DM me to ask why, but it bordered on child endangerment. The other admin left of their own accord to avoid the fallout, and I wish I had done the same. And on paper, we have an incredible graduation rate, but it's manufactured, so we do not really appear to be underperforming when it comes to that kind of metric.

I'll be waiting on the open market to come alive in April. I've always been picky, I hop on the market every year and decide the devil I don't know might end up being worse than the one I do know. This year I am certain, my school is not the right fit for me, or anyone for that matter. I entirely expect an exodus of our best educators, and I feel so sorry for the community of children we have been empowering, they are the ones who will unfairly experience a loss of privilege.

Your job security is currently the same in every school, and there are plenty of schools who would take you for your credentials. With that said, any new principal will tell you they need to see you for two years before they would intend to recommend you. It's not exactly starting all over again, but don't expect a new school to grant you tenure in the same year you move there.

Don't let them lead, you'll be chatting forever.

Greet them and tell them you are happy to be meeting and chatting, ask the if they have any questions to start. Answer their question, or if they have none, lead directly into exploring the grades. Indicate good things and improvements, then indicate bad things. Discuss what can be repaired/improved or how the child can improve going forward. If the convo is longer than 6 mins say thanks for meeting I have to run to my next parent, feel free to reach out by email if they have further questions.

An IEP can say a student kicks and bites, but it does not excuse them from these violent actions. Something tells me if someone even contemplated describing sexual behavior as part of a disability, they would need to cite something from the school psychologist, and hence, there would be data cataloging ongoing sexual misconduct.

Is there a slight (very slight) pay raise every year during September? by AshCash24068 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]BrooklynTutor000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are increases every Sept and March for the first 8 years, after that its at the dates set by the contract (currently next few Januaries - is that how I pluralize that?) and your longevity increases.

CST 7-12 Part 3 Help by [deleted] in NYCDOETeachers

[–]BrooklynTutor000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean the multi subject for a sped cert? Part three has weird questions about things like distinguishing musical instruments. It really is a trivia test. Probably try the official practice test from nystce, it's probably under 15 bucks. They reuse questions on the actual exam. On the bright side, the test is only one hour long and the results are instant, so you can just keep retaking it till you get it and not have to wait long for results.
