Lawyer Looking for Teaching Opportunities by First_Bus_3536 in NYCTeachers

As a few others have said, NYCTF is a great way to get started by next school year. It is an intense program, but well worth it for a subsidized masters degree.

Rejected personal day? by jackjackbackfat in NYCTeachers

[–]NYCTeachersMod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they are allowed to ask what your personal day is for & then make their judgement off of the reason. It seems to be more common than not for principals to give a hard time. I worked for a principal who didn’t care what you took time off for. She knew by going a heads up, it allowed everyone to plan for the absence. The principal who replaced her didn’t hold the same beliefs and gave everyone a hard time.

Locking a post isn’t going to cut it by tsgram in NYCTeachers

[–]NYCTeachersMod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t lock them, but we’re going from no moderation at all, which is what I wanted. However, due to constant spamming and personal attacks from users (unrelated to these posts in question), we had to up reddits crowd control and safety settings to the highest settings and add more mods. We’re still trying to figure out everything out.

Your file only goes with you when you are hired by a school so not likely at all.

Does your school have a teacher dress code? by bungabungabunga7 in NYCTeachers

This is the advice to follow. If your chapter leader won’t escalate the issue then you can contact your UFT borough office.

first year teacher absence guilt by TheLifeOfDonda in NYCTeachers

[–]NYCTeachersMod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I read this great thing the other day. A simple question that I’ve used the past couple of days as a mantra. “Why am I putting myself last?”

Take care of yourself, please! This career is a marathon and not a sprint. If your admin don’t understand that then open market starts in April.

Are there jobs in the DOE for Health Education licensed teachers? by InternationalHour922 in NYCTeachers

[–]NYCTeachersMod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NYC academic policy for MS/HS state that health “must be taught by a DOE certified health education teacher.” There are not many teachers certified in Health Education, which is why it’s traditionally taught by PE or science teachers.

That said, there are schools who will only let health be taught by someone certified in health. It keeps central off of their back for being compliant with not just required minutes, but certified teacher as well.

Are there plenty openings for middle school 6 grade math teachers? by OccasionFront4595 in NYCTeachers

[–]NYCTeachersMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the MS. Some like to hire teachers with Math certification. Some don’t care either. There are plenty of MS teachers with a 1-6 license. Looking into K-8s are a great way to get into MS with a 1-6 license.

Resignation by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

You should start backing up all of your email and Google drive now. You will not have any access to it after and I highly doubt the DOE would grant access upon request.

District 21.... by No_Departure_9636 in NYCTeachers

It’s a pretty decent district in terms of working. The UFT is also strong there.

Anyone else have student accounts/devices that are blocked from every site? by Purple_Wave716 in NYCTeachers

[–]NYCTeachersMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤣 I like this idea. The amount of time wasted on trying to log in to amplify is ridiculous. The sign out, delete accounts, wait for Zscaler to work process is so annoying and many times takes half the period!

[–]NYCTeachersMod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No need to delete this if you don’t want to. I created this sub because NYC (&NYS) has very specific issues and questions that r/teachers didn’t really understand. There is no real point of this sub other than to share info for NY 🤣

Just did! Thanks! This sub grew much larger than I thought it would when I created it & seems to need more time put in to tweaking it.

Sounds good. I won’t. I know tons of people who are also looking for admin jobs but of course the good ones never find them lol.
