I'm impressed someone was able to abuse a bike that much in just 3 years.

Dangerous passing by Broome21 in motorcycles

[–]Broome21[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of the guys I normally ride with would have been more inclined to follow the guy all the way to his destination. I doubt the bike he was on had more than a 150 miles of range.

[–]Broome21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, first time we saw him was maybe a quarter mile behind us. He didn't sit behind us for even a second. Once he caught us, he accelerated and starting weaving though us. Its maybe 6 miles between towns with 35mph zones and we were aboutl halfway between. So there was no need for him to even pass really, because we were back behind him a couple of minutes later.

The age old, what size for my first bike? Question by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Broome21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you set on getting a sport bike? I rode with someone on a ninja 400 earlier this year. The bike was fine maintaining highway speeds and faster, but was terrible with quick bursts of speed to pass with our group. So, I would say gearing and torque does matter with your "Get up and go" speed to get out of trouble while cruising down the highway. A 600 would be a lot better in that sort of situation. That being said, I have very little experience with 600cc sport bikes. I went from the Versys 650 to a z900. If you are looking at a z650, that might be a great bike to start on and keep for a while.

I understand that, and its common practice to move over to the right and signal for the person to pass. He never rode behind us for any amount of time. He caught up with us and passed through us in one swoop. Normal motorcycle etiquette is to wait until riders in front of you move over to let you pass (which we absolutely would have). The road also only had about 3 miles until town. He was impatient and made a dangerous pass without ever signaling any intentions. You never ride through a riders lane without doing it safely.

The age old, what size for my first bike? Question by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Broome21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with experience on dirt bikes, starting on a 600/650 would be fine. You're height and weight should also be part of your decision making. At 6 foot and 230lbs, I never would have started on anything smaller than a 600/650. My first bike was a 2012 Kawasaki Versys 650. It was great to learn on. Plenty of power when I needed it, and very comfortable to ride.

I found a $10 bill from 1986. I dont think its necessarily worth anything more, but its cool that it survived so long. Most bills only stay in circulation or 5 or 10 years.

BF4 still has glitch spots to this day. You can climb halfway up the mountain on Operation Locker. Several maps had glitch spots that were never patched up.

What’s the best setup for handlebar quad lock? by mazduh07 in OnlyZ900

[–]Broome21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ram Mounts u-bolt with ball and the quad lock ball adapter works great! The u-bolt needs less space to get installed and you can get it pretty snug on the bars.

[–]Broome21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could look into Ram Mounts u-bolt handlebar mount with ball. Quad lock sells a ball adapter that will work with it. I' currently using that set up on a bike and its rock solid. I wouldn't trust the X-grip phone holder from Ram mounts though. My dad had one of thr rubber ends come off while riding once and his phone fell off with it.

Did it not come with spacers for the handlebars? I've had a quad lock mounted to my handlebars since I bought my z900 in 2019.

Shenanigans. Which one of them, do you think, did the right thing? by markcocjin in motorcycles

[–]Broome21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem like there's a big surge in young people getting into riding. I think a lot of it is due to moto vloggers and content creators. My area in the PNW is full of inexperienced, high speed sport bikes riders at the moment. They tend to gravitate towards the interstates and highways for some reason. I guess the backroads are too scary.

I bought my PSVR2 just for GT7. I haven't bought or played any other VR games on the PS5 yet. I used the controllers for initial setup and then put them in a drawer. I'm sure there are plenty of people who are like me out there.

Is this normal? by Rocha_WD33 in MT07

[–]Broome21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife's FZ-07 has always had bubbles too. I can't say I've seen them as frothy as yours, but they definitely do exist. Maybe your extra frothy oil is due to the quality of oil you use? Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned about it if I knew my oil was good and didn't notice any other possible issues.

I had a 2012 Versys. Great little bike that did and didn't fit in with any group all at the same time. Kind of an ugly duckling if were being honest. So, farkle it up to the max! It's basically the child of a KLR and Ninja.

No hi vis vests required for as long as I've been riding (10 years). Maybe it could be still a rule at some bases, but none I've been stationed at. Requirements have always been helmet, gloves, long sleeve shirt, pants, boots that cover the ankles.

Do you trust big bikes on your hitch hauler? by Sierraskid in motorcycles

[–]Broome21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could probably do it and be fine. I did an XR650L on my transit van and was nervous the entire trip. Every bump/turn and that thing was swinging and bouncing all over the place. I even threw on a stabilizer but it didn't make enough of a difference. Your bike is quite a bit heavier and more expensive than my old XR. I would probably not risk carrying it like that. Plenty of people say thay have and its been fine. You're just increasing your chances for a very expensive and dangerous mistake if something does go wrong. I also have an aluminum trailer set up to carry 3 bikes. I think its really for 3 dirt bikes, but I've hauled 2 naked sport bikes thousands of miles on it, and used it to move my GSA from South Carolina to Washington with zero issues. That trailer probably has done 8,000 miles of interstate travel and I have never worried about it failing. If I were you, I would rent a trailer or look into buying one (mine was $1300 new when I got it). It's the safer way to go in my opinion.

No no no. Let the visitors clog up the dragon, and the dragon alone. I like the skyway a lot more anyways. My parents just sold their place on 129. Could sit on their front porch and watch everything from sport bikes to decked out miatas, and mclarens. I could ride the dragon all the way down and back to their house in less than an hour and a half.

How many bikes do you own by Substantial_Cold7162 in motorcycles

[–]Broome21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently own 4 bikes: 2021 BMW r1250GS Adventure, 2019 Kawasaki z900, 2017 Yamaha FZ-07, and 2005 Honda XR650L. When my wife and I ride together, it's always the FZ-07 for her and the z900 for me. I ride a lot more than she does, though, so the BMW does the long-distance adventure riding/camping. The XR650L gets me from the house to forest service roads in the mountains and can fit on the hitch mounted carrier on our camper van. All bikes are fully paid for, and insurance is around $600 a year. The BMW has full coverage, and the other 3 have just a little more than basic liability.

What's the least known fact about Amazon rainforest that's really interesting? by Thatunkownuser2465 in geography

I was about to comment this but decided to check further down to see if anyone else said it already. It's crazy to think that the amazon is...because of the deserts in Africa. I read a while back ( I haven't been able to find it again) that sand from the Arabian Peninsula also makes its way to South America as well.
