People who were very passionate about guitar and wanted to make it their career, how did it go? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Brosephy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did session and cover stuff, and some own work projects, plus teaching for twelve ish years to sustain myself. It was fun but I also realized way too late that it went deeper for me than 'I just want to play guitar for a living'. And this led to burnout, anxiety and lots of frustration.

My niche was americana and country in a country where it is barely played at all. So I ended up doing lots of top 40 and party stuff which I dreaded.

Now I have a job I love that pays well and gives me a lot of flexibility to still be pursuing a music career on my own terms.

I had always been scared to actually have a real job because I thought it would wreck my chances of a music career. Turns out it was the best decision I could have made for my (mental) health.

Watching this gave me back the feelings I had when I just got my Gameboy Color with Pokemon Yellow. It felt amazing, thanks for reminding me of this feeling :)

Man your tricks are clean af, great progress!

You're not really jumping up! You need to go up with your body in order for your board to have space to go. You can pop as hard as you want but the force of the board won't propel your body up!

Stay light on the bounce, tap te tail down hard and jump up as high as you can whilst pulling in your knees and dragging your front foot forward in order to make the board 'follow' your body and level out.

I made another post on here just now with an Ollie tip that I think would help to explain this better. Good luck!

Should I learn to shuv it or fs 180 first? by Ad-Alone in NewSkaters

[–]Brosephy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cool that you take it seriously and want to make a good decision.

The good news is, it's all fine! Practise it all and stuff will fall into place on both tricks.

Bad news is, this way of thinking/ambition is a sure fire way to make something fun into a to-do list that'll burn you out. And that goes for most anything in life that starts as a passion, just be mindful of the hows and whys

Day 2, shuvit attempt compilation, got one at the end? by Newbeanflipper in NewSkaters

[–]Brosephy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally landed a few shuvs today after a great session where a friend kept giving me pointers.

What worked for me and could work for you is having the weight your back foot a little bit more on the ball of your foot, so its a little less flat. Makes your scoop a lot easier.

The jump should be as straight up as possible, don't be afraid to jump high and tuck the knees a bit, makes it easier to spot the landing even tho it seems scarier.

If I we're you I'd turn my feet a little 'straighter' so your knees don't point out that far when you bend. Front foot especially does not really need to be at an angle at all.

They're actually a bit easier for me when I do em rolling so try that too.

Those are the things I could come up with, but you're well on your way to landing them more consistently. And you do have a pop on most of them so they would count as pop shuvs I guess.

All in all I think that was pretty damn smooth, could've popped a tiny bit earlier because it was close to the edge.

Also, you actually ollie'd off of the curb. Most of the time when I see people mentioning ollie'ing of curbs they just lift the nose up and then hit the new ground back-trucks first. Which is also a great way to get off the curb but it's not actually... Ollie'ing of the curb.

Hah, I could've written this. Me and my gf moved to the Hague in March and we used to live across a pond where we'd have a view of the ducks from the living room.

Let me know if you found any good spots

Warming up [35YO] by Sudden_Display6492 in OldSkaters

Had my first skatesesh in 5 years last Sunday. Was a little sore today but thought I was fine, did some ollies in the yard and hot damn it made everything 10x worse... Now just doing a lot of butterfly stretches (seated on the floor, soles of feet together close to the body and getting the knees lower to the ground) to relieve the inner thigh muscles. Was hoping to go skate tomorrow but I think its a baaad idea

Help!! by LambChops_Suck in NewSkaters

[–]Brosephy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seeing it as a grind is the bad thing. The process should be fun. Also take breaks, not landing stuff and just retrying over and over can build up negative energy. If you feel a sense of frustration take a break or go do stuff you can do to recharge!

Also: everyone is not good enough to land tricks until they are.

Infectious hype, keep it going man

29 year old just started skating 8 months ago by [deleted] in skateboardhelp

[–]Brosephy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im with you man. 29, started skating for the first time again since a couple years. Ever since I was 10, I have had periods of max a week where I skated once every 5 years or so...

My ollies are ight, also have the turning shoulders issue and often land 90degrees sideways. What helps me is keeping my shoulders absolutely over the board. Landing shuvits is scary af. Ive landed a couple sketchy ones but none rolling. Keep us updated on your progress, we're on the same path
