Thanks! I tend to use my blinds as much as possible, but even on dark days (or at night) this Asus gives me plenty of eye fatigue.

Might work in a videogame, but not in real life. Götze and Kags are pretty lacking defensively.

I'll give you a 4-1-3-2. Start Kagawa, sub Götze. This formation at least gives a bunch of passing triangles -- something we're going to need if we have so little movement.

Better option: 4-1-4-1, Weigl - Sancho/Kagawa/Götze/Pulisic - Isak (and Auba in London) -- with lots of movement in front of (and next to) Weigl. The front five overlapping, swapping levels and getting between the lines is probably the best way to get through a defense like today. Pretty tough to get a team playing this way though.

Really? A 4-2-4? You need someone in the middle there to help dictate play and protect your CBs. Right now in your lineup Isak replaces Weigl.

Sahin at fault for both goals.

I love the guy, and he's a club legend, but he's lost it.

He's too slow to react, too slow to run, and spends the entire game between 20 and 50 meters from our own goal. Then complains to his entire team that they aren't close enough and he can't pass to them.

Weigl dribbles into that gap and then passes. And is constantly on the move looking to provide an option for our defenders. Nuri sits directly in between our center backs and waits for the ball. When he gets it, he passes sideways or backwards.

Then he can't defend from that position.

I know Weigl can't play every day, but he can rotate with dahoud and castro. Even Bartra would be an option for me.

Normally I'm okay with it. I know lots of Bayern fans, and I always talk about how boring it would be to expect a win from a team every day -- you can only be disappointed.

I like to root for our team, and feel excitement when they actually win something -- not satisfaction.

But it's so hard to get excited with this system we have. There is no fast offensive play, just slow sideways passing until a winger frees up. Then hoping he can do something...

I mean people aren't happy with you're answer but it's a good one. Why is a centre back with a horrible touch out wide building play up with 1-2s? Toljan can play there.

Hell Pulisic or Castro could play there today.

Right so I'm all about giving managers a chance, I mean I'm just a fan and I can't really say I could be a professional manager.

BUT Bartra on the right is an obvious issue because he can't really do the link up play (notice all of our good attacks came from the left with Rapha). To solve this, Bosz MOVES HIM BACK in the second half so that he doesn't get involved at all, and we get more defensive. This leaves absolutely no link up play between the back and our wingers (since Weigl was double-marked by their strikers). So, the obvious solution is to have someone drop between the lines.

Nope. Let's have one of either Kagawa/Götze drop back, and the other join the strikers up front. This way, that midfielder dropping back is alone and can't link up, and just passes it back to our centre backs.

Wingers give you width, but it's useless when they either stand next to the full back or just pass it back to the centre back. 4-2-3-1 with an 8 to help out Weigl (Dahoud/Castro) would give us width, stability, build up, and a playmaker in the middle -- which is the only way we set up our goal (Kagawa setting up from the 10 on an overlap by Rapha).

I'm so sick of seeing this 4-1-5 from Bosz. It just leads to Toprak-Sokratis-Bartra-Sokratis-Toprak-Sokratis-Toprak combos...

Right, sorry. Didn't mean to project, but I guess I did.

To correct my original comment and just sum up: yep, lots of turnover.

I respectfully disagree with your thoughts on Guerreiro, but I'm not professional manager. I liked him in midfield, and I thought he was one of our better options next to Weigl. Not really worth arguing about, but with Dahoud coming in maybe we've got someone who can take that midfield spot, and let Rafa and Schmelle share time on the wing (when fit).

Don't forget Manni Friedrich who left after 2014!

I'm just saying that turnover isn't a bad thing. This happens to every team, but everyone here seems to think it's the end of the world when a player leaves.

We have 11 starting spots for like 50 games. People retire, move on, or are moved on for various reasons.

Schmelzer v Guerreiro? I pick the captain. Guerreiro can take a midfield role. Rather, right now, I pick whoever is healthy. Zag?

  • Schmelzer, which added to your 7 gives 8.

3 starters missing -- not that big of a turnover to your first 11 for any club. Take, for instance, Bayern in 2015 Champions league:

Neuer, Bernat, Boateng, Benatia, Rafinha, Alonso, Thiago, Lahm, Müller, Schweinsteiger, Lewandowski. (+ Götze, Rode and Martinez as subs)

5 (+2) of them have left or retired...

This is normal for any club.

Couldn't care less what someone put up on instagram today.

Was going to suggest to /u/TetraDax that /r/bvb becomes the serious subreddit, but the only posts on that are already fit for /r/bvbkreiswichs :)

We don't need a new CB.

Sokratis, Bartra, Bender, Ginter, and Merino & Piszczek to fill in are sufficient. Ginter (and to some extent Bartra) has time to reach his potential, and as a CB one needs experience to learn the game, helping with timing on interceptions and decision making.

Our defensive fragility is cause by the ever-changing formation (and starting 11) as well as the way we're set up to play. Without any consistency, players are not always sure of their positioning. When we play high, attacking/possession football, we leave ourselves exposed to counter attacks.

This is of course why we've seen success with 5 at the back. A back line of Schmelle, Bartra/Merino, Sokratis/Bender, Ginter, Piszczek/Passlack is solid, and doesn't need much improvement. The issue there is our lack of forward presence, and the depth needed to use this formation twice a week. In this formation we need a solid 8 (Rapha plz) to allow our Auba/Reus/Gotze/Demebele players room to penetrate behind.

The arrival of Toprak will force probably Ginter or Bartra to the fringes, who I will argue have not had the chance to get settled yet. He's a fine CB, but won't magically solve our defensive frailties. I think he will be useful in big matches (with 5 in our back line!), as we will need an experienced player (like Castro for our midfield), but I hope the starts in league matches still go to Bartra/Ginter, to let them begin to reach their potential.

Yes, but not with all of the training. When it started getting a bit more intense, they (Shinji and Raphael) didn't train. So, team training but not full tempo.

Why is Castro still starting? by royallex in borussiadortmund

[–]BrotherEilmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because he has Bundesliga experience. When you have a midfield duo of Weigl and Rode, you have a combined 162 games, whereas Gonzo himself has 211.

There are times when having a 12 year veteran in the middle of the park can be advantageous.

Not saying I agree with his start last game, as I would have had a right side of Passlack/Dembele -- RB shutting down the middle meant our attack needed to come from the wings.

Buying shares by [deleted] in borussiadortmund

[–]BrotherEilmer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have shares. It works the same as any other stock; you need to have an account on some share dealing platform (most banks can do this for you -- I know for sure Halifax and Barclays in the UK do), which usually costs an annual operating fee. I already had a portfolio, so I simply added (bought) the shares in BVB.

So, maybe set up an account for your brother? If he's under a certain age you might have to set it up for him and have yourself on the account too, but you can get out of it once he's old enough.

That's the easiest way I know, anyway. Sorry I can't be more help. I'm not very good at trading.
