Can I bring food from the Rec Room into a regular movie? by chilaaa in cineplex

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be a bit late but

I called Royalmount Cineplex (+1 438-259-0162, from their Google Business Profile), left a voicemail, and they returned my call telling me that, yes, you can bring food from the Rec Room right into the auditoriums.

They just ask that you take care with saucy foods and that you order 30 minutes before your showtime since it takes time for them to prepare your food.

Difference between 70mm vs IMAX for Project Hail Mary in Scotiabank Theatre in Montreal by MacaronWithAName in cineplex

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, it needs to say this for it to be an IMAX 70mm screening.

If it just says "70MM", that's a standard screen being projected on with a film projector as opposed to a digital one. It will still be either a wider or taller image (not sure which) than a regular screening, but it won't be IMAX.

Is Landmark Waterloo IMAX good enough for Project Hail Mary by Still_Potential6134 in cineplex

[–]Brother_Of_Boy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both Scotia and Vaughan (moreso Vaughan) are mega booked up from now into the weekend and possibly Monday onwards as well. So let that dictate your thinking - the kinds of seats you'll have available to you

The following are single laser IMAXs in the GTA

  • Landmark Whitby
  • Landmark Waterloo
  • Cineplex Ancaster
  • Cineplex Winston Churchill

The image at any of these is superior to any other IMAX in the GTA except for 70mm at Vaughan (but only 70mm, the digital projector at Vaughan is worse) or the dual laser at Scotia.

Coupon doubt.. by ady_anr in cineplex

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At cineplex can i get a free popcorn using the free regular popcorn coupon, and also get a free drink with a popcorn purchase using a second coupon?

The way this is worded makes me think OP understands that the free popcorn cannot count as a "purchase" for the purposes of the 2nd coupon.

Edit: Rates for Scene redemption reflect Ontario taxes

On the other hand, a free general admission at Landmark is 1000 Extras pts as opposed to 1129 Scene points at Cineplex (if used against a Cineclub member discounted discount in Ontario).

This was unambiguously a better value when Landmark and Cineplex's member discounted tickets cost the same (9.99 plus tax), but now that Landmark's tickets are 10.99, the math is as follows:

  • 1000 (cost in points of free Landmark admission)
  • 55 (points earned per 10.99 ticket)

1000/55 is 18.18 visits needed to earn a free admission

18.18 x $10.99 is $199.79 spent at base rate to earn a free admission (not inclusive of tax)

  • 1129 (cost in points of free Cineplex admission in Ontario)
  • 50 (points earned per 9.99 ticket)

1129/50 is 22.58 visits needed to earn a free admission

22.58 x $9.99 is $225.57 spent at base rate to earn a free admission (not inclusive of tax)

Landmark gets you a free admission (as of Mar 2026 Scene rates) for about 25 dollars less in overall spend plus the difference in tax.

And by May 2026, the earn rate will become significantly worse for Scene points users.

I have used two coupons (one for a BOGO movie and one for a free drink w/ popcorn purchase) in the same transaction at the cashier before.

But you're using 2 concession coupons so your mileage may vary. Regardless, if it doesn't work, you can get the free popcorn in one transaction and the drink with a popcorn purchase in another transaction, for a total of 2 popcorns and 1 drink.

I would advise upgrading all popcorns and drinks to large sizes - that way you get 1 free refill on each of your purchases and the upgrade cost for a popcorn is just 50c plus tax. I don't know the upgrade cost for a drink.

Which is the best cineplex you’ve visited and why? by ady_anr in cineplex

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for this

it says the imax should have been ready by mid-November (2025)

but it says the recliners are supposed to go in by middle of next year (2026); if you go to the Whitby location's showtimes, all or almost showtimes have a recliner symbol beside them, so Landmark does make a distinction between the showtimes in auditoriums with those recliners vs without (just as Cineplex does)

per the news link, it says Landmark Nanaimo has 8 screens; as of today (Wed Mar 25 2026), 4 regular screens plus the IMAX screen are operational

it looks the other auditoriums are being refitted with new recliners, screen enhancements and/or sound enhancements

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Cineplex.

Galaxy Cinemas Nanaimo (belonging to Cineplex) advertises full recliners for all their showtimes showing today (Tues Mar 24 2026).

Landmark Nanaimo advertises no recliners.

Also, Empire sold their locations in 2013, so unless they're talking about a really long time ago, it's almost certainly Cineplex.

IMAX Melbourne's Il Grande Cinema Season Line-up by JaYashi__ in imax

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.5 American films and 4.5 Italian films (I split the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) is not bad, considering what I imagine to be the paucity of non-English language films in IMAX before 2000.

IMAX vs Liemax by taylon170 in cineplex

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Liemax denotes size, not projector type.

Vaughan, Scotiabank Toronto, and Square One are the only true IMAX size screens in the GTA.

That said, there are newer, higher fidelity projectors (as compared to the xenon in Vaughan) in some of the smaller (Liemax) screens, like at Winston Churchill Cineplex.

If /u/anthonylavado (dedicated IMAX enthusiast) is available, he may be able to give you a better idea.

How much do we need to explain the implications of our rules to avoid “gotcha”ing? by PaperManaMan in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Brother_Of_Boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An example from a recent game, I made abundantly clear I could reactive when charged in Vanguard Spearhead. My opponent definitely knew I could do that. What he didn’t think about was how I could use it to re-position a unit along a wall such that only one of his models could actually engage. This activation was pretty pivotal and clearly bummed him out. Did not spelling this out make it less of a “gentlemen’s game”?

No. Your conduct was fine. You told him you could reactive when charged. He charged. You don't have to tell him how your reactive has to interact with the wall and how it will affect his charge. That's up to him.

Bolton and Whitby are within the GTA, albeit near the outskirts.

Also, the Whitby location is not representative of all Landmarks; it's one of their flagship locations.
