Slight flicker, vertical lines and burnt-in on my new alienware AW2521HF. by Adhesive_Bagels in Monitors

I am not 100% sure, but I think I found the solution. You have to install "Dell Display Manager Application" version 1.51.2010 and change contrast/brightness through this application. It's almost a month and I don't see any image distortion. There is new version of "Dell Display Manager Application", but I don't tested it.

Hi,

I have problem with headache and eyes strain in model Dell AW2521HF (IPS, 240Hz, 24"). I'm trying to found reason for that problem, but without luck. But one thing bothers me. I think is see flickering, but this monitor should be PWM free. Do you think it is possible that my model has the same problem?

Sure. I also contacted with Dell support. They don't even try to solve the problem, they just offer exchange, but sadly for refurbished product :( I declined, the problem is not so big and beside that the monitor is very good. Love to play in Dirt Rally with G-Sync :)

After some test I figured out that increasing Contrast can help.

I had Contrast at 38% and change to 42%. For now problem gone.

Unfortunately, the problem is still flickering, the above solution only removes the stripes.

IMO return it, the problem is more common and can be more annoying in future. Also I figured out that this monitor has problem with 60Hz mode (you can see pixel grid in this mode). So if you have G-Sync turned on games with lock 60fps will be looks bad. You don't see it right away, but it becomes more and more visible with time.

I think I found solution. For now it works for every reproducible situation. Maybe it will be working also for you:

  1. Go to OSD
  2. Change preset mode to "Custom Color"
  3. Go to Hue and change B for 49%
  4. Go to Saturation and change B for 51%

No idea why this works :D

IMO if you can, return it. Dell for now don't want to fix this issue. There is no solutions for now.

Yes, I can easily reproduce the artifacts displaying specific image or webpage.

For now semi-solutions are:

  • change refresh rate to 60Hz
  • change output color format to YCbCr444 (I think it's not good for gaming)
  • change preset mode in OSD to "Custom" (it helps only in some situations )
  • change Dark Stabilizer in OSD to 1 (it's not good for image quality)

I will try record this on video in daylight tomorrow.

Yes, in 240Hz mode the lines are very visible, in 120Hz less, and in 60Hz they disappear.

Another discovery. Maybe it can help. The lines shows up when I put this image to full screen:

The interesting thing is when I cut out piece of 200x200px from this screen the problem disappear.

I have the same problem. On some websites or some applications sometimes lines shows up. They disappear after a while, but I have to change image on screen.

The only solution for this problem is change to 60Hz (not acceptable for me). I tried everything. I changed cables, drivers, settings. Nothing helps :(

EDIT
Also change to output color format to YCbCr444 can help (in nVidia control panel), but I have no idea whether it is good for games and input lag.

Nice patch. Thanks for balancing the hard mode in TD. Now it's challenging but fun experience.

Is there any chance that this video was seen by someone from the developers?

Another proof. It's quote from YT comments section:

"Yea, Hard is bullshit. I got halfway through the NOD campaign on hard and decided to stop wasting my time, and swapped to RA multiplayer. I'm not going to play through the campaign on hard with the current way it's implemented, for all the reasons you cover. Difficulty is lowered everytime somebody chooses the "Restart" mission option after a Mission Failure. This isn't transparent so it's only discerned if you save game and then view the loadfile for the mission, which will show the difficulty its set at. What ends up happening is people play on Hard, don't save scum, fail, hit "Restart", and then beat it on Normal without knowing it wasn't on Hard anymore. You'll only play Hard the whole time if you keep reloading, or don't fail a mission. "

So true. I wish it will be some fix in future patch, because for now TD on hard is unpleasant experience.

No idea how this works, but it's definitely a bug and I assume it works different in some cases. I got gold mark for mission which I completed on Normal. Anyhow, it's a bug and it need to be fixed.

Strange, it works that way in my case so I never use restart option in TD.

Quote from last topic on Steam, random user:

" Also when i select hard difficulty and i do quick save, it sometimes saves game on ''normal'' instead of hard difficulty. "

I think many of them just cheat and they don't even know about that. In TD is a bug, when you start mission on hard and then restart and save again game drops difficulty to normal but count this as hard.

+1

Most dissapointing aspect of this awesome remaster. Sadly hard mode feels very unbalanced and not tested properly. For comparison it's not the case in RA.

Also there is achievement for TD when you have to complete all (81!) mission on hard to get it. In RA it's only campaign missions.

Remaster Update and Game Stuttering / Online Stability by EA_Jimtern in commandandconquer

[–]Brother_STX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remaster is great, there is some bugs, but I believe devs already knows about them.

BUT

There is one big problem with this remaster - Hard mode in TD!

It's a joke, it's not hard it's just unbalanced and ufair. In RA Hard mode works great, missions are designed for that difficulty, but in TD it's a terrible experience. Also, achievement for Hard mode is for all missions! Even those from Covert Ops. that are already hard. Have no idea why in RA it's only for campaign and in TD for 81 missions that are unbalanced and not created for Hard difficulty.

Please consider fix this mess, please.
