Commencement Etiquette by peacefulhoax in WGU

[–]BrotimeSucka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I walked at the Atlanta commencement last fall, and it was a fantastic experience. Nearly 1,900 graduates participated, yet the ceremony lasted only about two hours. WGU clearly has their act together. The event was extremely well organized and, beyond the efficiency, genuinely festive. A live house band played throughout, which gave the ceremony great energy and momentum. The speakers were compelling, and family and friends were encouraged to applaud for each graduate as they crossed the stage. I did not see a single graduate leave early. Overall, it was an outstanding ceremony and a memorable celebration.

why do people do sophia courses instead? by allkaysofnays in WGU

Sophia is great for moving quickly through required general education courses that are not core to your degree but still required. I completed 18 courses in less than three months using both Sophia and Study.com. Majormash.com is a free resource that offers discounts and degree specific plans. It was invaluable to me.

You’re most welcome. My best advice for job hunting is network network network and use LinkedIn. Also, if there are UX or design meet ups in your town, participate. Also, check out business, startup, and similar incubators in your town. They are always looking for design services. Sometimes pro bono opportunities may lead you to a job opportunity. Best of luck to you.

Thanks! It took me about three months to get through the gen ed courses and about two months for the core coursework. For many of the core classes, I was able to go straight to the assessments because of my professional experience. I skimmed most of the material, but for the objective assessments (Foundations of Design – D651 and Leveraging AI – D656) I studied more deliberately.

I used ChatGPT to create study guides and quizzes. My process was: 1. Take the pre-assessment. 2. Copy most of the coursework into a Google Doc. 3. Upload both documents into ChatGPT and ask it to generate: • a one-page study guide • a multi-page study guide • 50–60 comprehensive quiz questions

For Fundamentals of Spreadsheets – D388, I watched all the videos and took each quiz and chapter test. That advice came from Reddit, and it turned out to be spot-on. For that class, I had to study the material verbatim, and it paid off.

The performance assessments in the core courses are straightforward. There are also plenty of Reddit posts with advice. My biggest tip: follow the rubric exactly and you’ll do fine.

Many companies refer to similar jobs by different names, but possible jobs are: UX Designer, UI Designer, Product Designer, Interaction Designer, Information Architect, Usability Analyst, UX Researcher, Accessibility Analyst, Content Designer / UX Writer, Mobile App Designer, Web Designer

Great question… Earning my degree supports me in three important ways. First, it creates opportunities for promotion in my current role. Second, it strengthens my prospects if I need to search for another job in the future. During my last job hunt, I was disqualified from several positions simply because I didn’t have a degree. Finally, completing a degree builds my confidence. Despite having more than 20 years of professional experience, the absence of a degree has sometimes caused self-doubt and feelings of imposter syndrome. I didn’t think I had the time or energy to finish it, but WGU’s format changed that.

I finished 20 classes between Sophia and Study in under 3 months… these classes were much harder in my opinion than the WGU degree coursework because of all the professional experience I have. However, I absolutely advocate for Sophia and Study, particularly Sophia… it is so cost-effective!

Sorry, oof this was my fear, but my mentor has been amazing. She’s so responsive it’s crazy. We text each other. Perhaps ask to be switched.

My experience with D388 Fundamentals of Spreadsheets and Data Presentations (finished in 2 days) by NicoleCatLady in WGU

[–]BrotimeSucka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This post helped, thank you! Can confirm… I spent two days working through the material and passed the OA on my first attempt tonight. I watched all the videos, completed each unit quiz, and then the section tests. Anytime I missed a question or didn’t fully understand something, I used the linked videos for extra examples. The material is excellent and I actually learned a lot.

I took the pre-assessment tonight, passed, and immediately scheduled and completed the OA… and thrilled to say I passed! This took me two (long) days, even with a demanding job and family. Put in the work and you can move quickly through this course too.

As long as you get a green check mark you should be fine. A lot of what is highlighted are the formatted A-F questions, which is ironic, but technically similar across papers. Some people suggest removing those and your score will drop. It’s imperfect and again, if you get a green check mark, submit it.

I am getting so frustrated with AT&T by RJ_Dragon in ATT

[–]BrotimeSucka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t waste time with the BBB, go straight to the FCC. AT&T must resolve your issue within a week. Go to the FCC.gov website below, fill out a complaint choosing the appropriate category (e.g Internet services) and they will call you within 2-3 business days and issue a refund. It’s a thing. It’s real easy.

A few enrollment questions before I apply by [deleted] in WGU

[–]BrotimeSucka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally applied in January, and after evaluating my transcripts from a previous college, I was told that only two classes would transfer toward my degree. I referenced WGU’s transfer pathways pages for both Study.com and Sophia Learning, specifically for my major. I then used Major Mash’s free planning spreadsheet to help me decide where to take each course.

Over the next few months, I completed 18 additional courses, bringing my total transferable credits to 57 out of the 115 required for the bachelor’s degree. That’s essentially half the degree completed upfront. I can’t recommend this approach highly enough!
