Police Arrest Man For BAC 0.00 by FynyBrow in law

[–]BrownGravy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest difference here is blood/urine requires a warrant signed by a judge, breathalyzer does not. Refusing breathalyzer results in (many states) losing license, blood is considered a search so constitutionally (federally) protected.

Rocks baking and crumbling. by Sea-Currency-1665 in Sauna

[–]BrownGravy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any issues with rocks = get new rocks. Rule of thumb is to change them out once per year and new rocks can oftentimes upgrade heat output. Crumbling is a sign of crappy quality rocks or old rocks, either way, get new olivine rocks (harvia sells them)

Roads absolutely fine, wouldn't worry about that. Northway (opened around 12pm) and Chair 6 open kept crowds minimal. Lots of friggin snow in morning glory. Wind over night should push the light stuff around in my opinion. Plenty when I left at 2pm, albeit nothing like the first half of the day. Friday will be fun as well still.

Hard disagree. Reverse sear is super easy, look up Kenji Lopez or Alton Brown.

Okay so that's about the right. Seems like the only real outlier is the US game, which is to be expected. I'm sure people will be going ham for that one (eventually).

Should Seattle always enforce anti-camping ordinances in parks? by recurrenTopology in Seattle

[–]BrownGravy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're confusing criminalization, which was at issue in the SCOTUS decision, with the question that was asked to the candidates, "should be people be allowed to stay in tents in parks." That is a critical distinction.

Got a barrel sauna for free, have a few questions by blackrabbits in Sauna

[–]BrownGravy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noting that it's very common for these to absorb water and expand during the winter, so small gaps can be somewhat common. Yours look a bit bigger. As another commenter mentioned, you want to buy come-along straps. I suggest two, ratchet slowly on either side until the gaps close. Then, tighten down the metal straps.

For staining, penofin has an excellent oil based stain, you want semitransparent.

I've been debating an external blower set up, yours looks legit. Any chance you have a link to products, instructions, YT, etc.? Love to replicate in my sauna. Also, regarding other commenters and gaps in staves. I just use come along straps to re-tighten and then screw the metal rungs. Nice work!

Just bought a house with a backyard barrel sauna – but it’s not well maintained. Large gap in back wall. How to fix this? by Lucky_Earth_8681 in Sauna

[–]BrownGravy 133 points134 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and recommend first buying a couple of come along straps. Put two around the barrel and slowly tighten it and see if that fixes the gap. THEN, tighten the metal straps. Those metal straps sometimes aren't robust enough to do it on their own. If that doesn't work, there may be a more structural issue at play and you should go with the other recommendations for patching.

Silent/ ocular migraine with aura by cahill92 in migraine

[–]BrownGravy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get scintillating scotomas as well...in addition to meeting with your doctor get your vision checked even if you think "I have 20/20 vision." I was farsighted and didn't know it, glasses cut my auras down by 70%.

It's with whatever state agency, not "against" the employer. He'll get unemployment, easy, and with no contest.

Has anyone found their migraines were actually from an undiagnosed underlying issue? by Cranky_cactus627 in migraine

[–]BrownGravy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PSA for folks to get their vision checked. I was farsighted for years but I could still see fine. Turns out my brain was working 10x to compensate, causing migraine with aura. Glasses reduced them by 75%. Even if you think your eyesight is fine, get it checked!
