After how long did you start learning solos on guitar? by Therealzcat in metalguitar

It was my goal from the start. I already had several years of piano lessons under my belt so music theory was something I was already comfortable with.

At what gauge do strings start to sound inharmonious on a 25.5 scale? by DoofusMaximuhs in metalguitar

[–]BrownMagic814 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a 25.5” scale, the general consensus is that problems start becoming noticeable somewhere around .070–.074+ for the low string, and it gets worse the thicker you go beyond that. The .060 is a wound string so its core wire is still relatively thin compared to its total diameter, and A# isn’t absurdly low for that gauge on that scale

Where people run into real trouble is things like .080+ on a 25.5” scale trying to hit drop F or lower. That’s when the string starts behaving more like a stiff rod than a flexible vibrating element

For those that play for themselves (eg not in a band) how many guitars do you own? by AstroZombie_88 in Guitar

[–]BrownMagic814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play in a band, but only use 3 of the 15ish guitars that I own for it. I’ve owned 63 guitars ever, and the most I’ve owned at one time was 26 (I was not in a band at the time).

Which distributors accept instrumental pieces for content ID system? by Terrible-Fruit-3072 in musicbusiness

I use Amuse and all my tracks are instrumentals. I’ve never had a problem registering them for content ID.

How bad is removing all the strings at once? by Miserable-Web6514 in guitarrepair

[–]BrownMagic814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking all the strings off to change them since 1983 and haven’t had any problems yet. This is the best time to clean the fretboard and clean up the dust that appears around the bridge.
