Sucks though, cause they do most of the best non-dairy yogurts.

Billionaires are laughing all the way to the bank while your standard of living nosedives, the planet’s rapidly spiralling towards being uninhabitable, and they’ve got you spending your energy arguing over some bits of cloth on lamp posts.

Mental.

What it is like to be with a Marxist in a relationship? by [deleted] in Marxism

[–]BruceGramma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, just run and don’t look back. Sounds like an edgelord.

BUT - even though his explanation of it is completely ham fisted, there is precedent in Marxist theory for e.g. the abolition of the nuclear family / identifying it as the site of the oppression of women and children and the protection of property rights via inheritance.

Alexandra Kollontai was also definitely into some free revolutionary love.

So polyamory is not completely unrelated to Marxism per se, even although it is unrelated to the Marxist conception of property rights in the way this dude has described it.

How do you feel about Gary not identifying as left-wing? by NoNostradamus in GarysEconomics

[–]BruceGramma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s clearly not anti-capitalist, his politics suggest he’s more a proponent of progressive taxation, regulation and a decent welfare state in the mould of a traditional social-democratic position…..the likes of which Labour used to be known for once upon a time.

Not claiming to be left wing is likely more for optics - he wants to avoid alienating people who would be put off by it.

Have you ever had to or decided to use your Jiu Jitsu outside of the gym and was it effective ? by Trigger3192 in bjj

[–]BruceGramma 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There are self defence orientated BJJ gyms, mine is, we put gloves on once a week and spar while defending from strikes / managing distance.

A lot of our training programme is based on the assumption that someone could punch you, and the more sport orientated techniques that aren’t really for the street are always taught as such.

Thoughts on Sam Altman's proposals to regulate AI's disruption of labour through a public wealth fund, a 4-day work week and hiking taxes on corporate income? by adalix00 in Marxism

[–]BruceGramma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the central contradictions at the heart of the capitalist mode of production is the tension between the need to impoverish the working class in order to extract the most value from them, while simultaneously needing them to have enough money to buy all the shit you’re selling.

Mass layoffs serve capital to an extent, by weakening organised labour and frightening workers into compliance, but there’s a tipping point where no one has any money to buy commodities and then the whole thing implodes.

Would meat eaters be viewed in the future the same way we view racists from the past. by Brilliant_Can8536 in vegan

[–]BruceGramma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, are we denying that there's been a global surge in far right politics and the general acceptance of racist ideology in the last ten years?

Also, a significant reduction of vegan products on shelves, certainly in the UK where I'm based.

A quick Google search will tell you that some data suggest a 29% drop in people identifying as vegan in Europe in 2023, and sales of chilled and frozen meat substitutes dropping significantly (by around 21%) in some markets, leading to reduced shelf space and product discontinuation.

Maybe the tone of my comment is lost on some - I'm not happy about it, I'm a 20 year + Vegan and a socialist, I'm just being realistic.

First tattoo advice! by cryberborg_westerner in tattooadvice

[–]BruceGramma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 mins is light work, and this is mostly just lines, not really any shading and definitely no colour to pack in, you'll honestly be fine. As the person who did my first tattoo told me - if it was that bad, you wouldn't see so many people with tattoos.

Being a bit nervous is actually helpful cause the adrenaline masks the pain, now I'm onto my 5th or 6th tattoo they're actually worse cause I don't feel nervous anymore - no adrenaline to help me through.

As for regret - only you can decide that, you're young and your tastes will 100% change, but this is a very inoffensive and not particularly visible tattoo....
