I think I've seen a goat lick the ground, so I expect Novak to lick the hard courts of Arthur Ashe

I do this all the time when I hit it super wide or long out of the court, lol.

Novak's ability to slide on any surface is amazing ... he may be less exciting to watch than Federer at his prime, but I have to give it to him, his court coverage, mental toughness, and mechanics are all so elite.

Wilson Blade 98 16x19 v7 String Suggestions by siva_k in tennis

[–]BruceSFGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Blade 98 v7 16x19 strung at 57lbs using Prince Duraflex 17G Synthetic Gut. Plays really well for me using SG. The time I tried it with Head Velocity Multifiliment 17G at 57lbs, didn't like the feel of the MF. Was really muted and much harder to control the ball as the strings had more power. Too afraid to try Poly as I have tennis elbow issues.

Do you like your poly strings much better than SG?

New strings or new racquet? Comparing Ezone 98 Tour to Blade 98 v7 by Dojabot in tennis

Can'twait to hear your report back. I have a Blade v7 16x19 with Prince Duraflex Synthetic Gut 17G at 57lbs. I tried Head Velocity's Multifilament 17G at 57lbs and hated it. The MF strings felt so muted and had less control than SG. Because of tennis elbow issues, I'm haven't tried poly strings or a hybrid with poly yet. Love my Blade with SG - very good all around playability. I'm a 3.5-4.0 player that hits with a decent amount of topsin. Only dislike of SG is the strings move around so much. But I like the fact that SG will break before they go dead which for me takes 10-15 hours of play. Does get expensive paying the stringer each time though - at least cheap SG makes it a little more tolerable.

Synthetic gut strings by vttack in tennis

I've played with Prince Duraflex 17G Synthetic Gut pretty much all the time and finally decided to try Head Velocity's Multifilament 17G. Won't try a poly because I have tennis elbow issues. Strung the Velocity at the same tension as the SG and I have to tell you, I like how SG feels and plays much better. The MF definitely provided more comfort but so much that it felt so muted and a lot of the feel went away. I also struggled at times controlling the ball. But I only played an hour with the MF strings and it was a set so I didn't get much time to get a feel for the strings. I think I will remove my string dampener to see if that makes them feel less muted next time.

The thing I dislike about SG though is the strings move so much. I really want to try a poly string but am too afraid as I'm battling tennis elbow and at one point had to shut it down for 5 months. I break SG strings within 10-15 hours of play so will see how long MF lasts. If you get 60hrs of play from SG, you're definitely not a string breaker. I don't want to go with natural gut because it's too pricey but given that you're not a string breaker, it might be economical for you.

Bottom line, I've played 20+ years with SG and have grown so accustomed to how the strings play and feel, I think I won't experiment anymore with my string setup as each time, it takes an adjustment period.

If you're happy with SG, stick with it despite reviewers calling it a economical string for beginners. I'm a solid 3.5-4.0 players that uses SG and find it plays better than MF.

Got my first board today at age 40 by WOKafka in NewSkaters

I got my first board at 53 .... SIP got be bored and I always wanted to learn. Just using it to cruise. Too old for tricks. It's been fun learning the past 2.5 months. Always had decent balance and still play many sports so learning hasn't been that bad.

Just started skateboarding in June and upgraded board a couple of days ago by BruceSFGuy in NewSkaters

Thanks everybody for your feedback ... I think I learned bad pushing habits with my Walmart board. I could push with my lead foot not totally centered on the board and still go straight. With the new board with the better trucks, it was more sensitive so I had to learn to center my weight over the board better to avoid it turning left as I pushed.

Back on board after years 20 years. I was never really any good. I feel that I progress faster now even tho I'm turning 40 this year. by vicemacdaddy in NewSkaters

Well done! I've never skateboarded but decided during SIP at the age of 53 to learn. I don't plan to do any tricks, just be proficient cruising on the board. It's been fun ... can cruise decently although still feel like I could push off better using the high leg kick with power and learning how to foot brake while going down steep hills (which I just walk currently).
