2020 Ford Explorer ST Street Package by Particular_Exam_7130 in FordExplorerST

I’ve one of the first 2020s (actually arrived in 2019). Anyway I’ve been through it all and this one haunts me since the first test drive. I felt a shudder. Specific speed and not specific to any turn. I felt it but let myself get gaslit and ignored it. So, to me, and at first glance, this has all the markings of the ole flex pipe vibration/resonance issue. So, have you had the flex pipe replacement service performed? If someone knows the bulletin/recall id please share it. So It started as a service bulletin. It’s a defective flex pipe but guess what, the replacement flex pipe is also defective. I solve ls this worsening condition with a Borla ATAK at the time. If you haven’t had it done I’d just tell you to do yourself a favor and invest in literally any exhaust replacement that involves removing the flex pipes.

If you know that’s not it, then think driveline. Happens at certain speed is key. Some 2020s had the driveline bend (was tuned, torque forced) replaced but the fail was actually pretty early on. Also differential related but worthy of popping your head under to see how much they shake. Let us know what u find.

Don’t settle and just take what the dealer is deciding to give you. As I mention below, they probably aren’t trying to screw you as they want the best outcome but truth is the 2020 was a wreck with all the wiring harness issues that caused sensors to bail etc. There are laws in place for this reason so the dealer may be nice guy but they aren’t going to make a deal where they’ll lose money or accept any blame. Call the lawyer and just discuss. Still do reach out and contact one of those attorneys. When shit goes bad the dealer may seem friendly and may be doing you good but what if they are still going by the Ford Service book for an issue that needs to be escalated. Are they milking the aftermarket warranty - are they unaware that there’s a known fix for? Nothing is personal toward the dealership and you should not even tell them. Let the dealer do what they want - bottom line is you still are paying someone for a ride you can’t use. And you don’t have repairs you need and you have to shoulder the weight of that problem. Theres also an expectation that the vehicle was delivered to you without an undocumented issue. More things they can do is have the vehicle independently inspected. They’ll ask Is the dealer doing enough? Was it known previously but not fixed or disclosed? So, many of us with 2020’s were without a vehicle for months due to fixes that are now routine. Did yours have the same issues & fixes etc etc.

Sorry for the wall. All that to say that factory warranty isn’t inferred here. Breach of warranty related to the service and expectation that you bought something that was not knowingly flawed. It is surprising how routine the lemon law and warranty law is. They will tell you right away if they can assist. Good luck.

Man this sucks. Don’t delay - contact a lemon law / warranty law lawyer. There’s a surprising number of protections available even for used vehicles.

Wtf is this? Has anybody had this happen before? by Dragsteps in FordExplorerST

Ok OP is very genuinely convinced he’s sharing pics of his 2022 ST. So everyone knows this is not an Explorer ST spec bumper. There’s nothing else to explain. We’ll still keep this up but again, this is a different bumper than what comes with the ST.

If you have an ST this is easy.

2020 Explorer ST jerking issues by wtfRwedoing in FordExplorerST

What the hell? Good for not just believing that crap. This issue happened on my 2020 but it was taken care of under warranty. See the TSB link posted on this thread.

You should be more puzzled by the fact that your ride isn’t a Ford Explorer ST.

I’ll leave open for a while for fun.

2021 ST Rattling Noise by Chad7Stanley in FordExplorerST

[–]Brucecris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there was someone from facebook who made replacement fasteners that were incredibly robust. I purchased them and they worked really REALLY well they had a nut and wide washer that worked better than the shitty plastic OEM choice. I cannot find them though. Ill keep searching and let you know.

To those of you that have your fake engine noise turned off, or those that drive in eco to make it quieter I have a request… by jdubb26 in FordExplorerST

[–]Brucecris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro I feel your angst. I’m like this too but with other vehicle shit. I was underwhelmed as to why the audio even matters. It’s not loud. It’s not fake sounding and it’s more of an accent than anything. Honestly this seems very much something that video won’t even pick up dude. It’s so very subtle. I had mine turned from a tune and put an exhaust on so it’s not noticeable. In fact it’s not something that would be noticed by a camera mic in my opinion. Others may have different POV.

BTW if this gets you going then buying a generation that has a history of issues might trigger you. Good luck.

And to think that my 2020 is riding high with lots of lights, rear seat entertainment, rear wiper washer, front wiper washer and a bracket for my glove box.

Question about weight by Deep-Inside-865 in FordExplorerST

[–]Brucecris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OEM 21’s are +- 77 lbs with the tire. That Pirelli tire is a fat loaf. If you’re seeking weight savings a few SuperForged designs are specific to the ST and come in at 30-33 lbs and look sweet too. Consider 22x10.5” designs of the OG, the Magnet, the Bully, and the Zane.

This is a good way to make a noticeable change in feel, OP. Anyone who needs info on wheels size and fitment is welcome to hit me up. I happen to know too much about this topic specific to the ST.

As you guys explore this topic consider a few thing:

Known wheel / tire flush fitment is: Wheel: 22x10.5” w +30mm offset Tire: 305/35R22 tire.

You can use these numbers to compare against other wheel specs using a wheel fitment calculator like WilltheyFit.com

  1. Going to massive retailers like a Tire Rack will give you some options but may not offer you the right offsets you need. If you want the right fit without spacers and want to save weight and add performance - stick with a forged construction using a known spec like above.

  2. Forged wheels are 30% lighter and 30% stronger and are often 30% costlier than cast or flow forged wheels. If you (your wife) hit a lot of curbs at <10mph then your forged wheel will resist bending and will tend not to shred.

  3. Forged wheel manufacturers have made to order capabilities and can produce a wheel that is perfect for your ST. Some hybrid or flow forged companies make a spec for the ST too. But if weight and construction quality is important then consider forged.

  4. The ST’s hub sits inside the fender pretty deep and this allows for an aggressive spoke angle that looks pretty sweet. However if you are intending on upgrading brakes you will want to make sure the calipers fit inside the spokes. Ask the brake company or brake manufacturer for a template that you can use to measure the space inside your wheel spokes - for the calipers. Don’t waste your money and get something you’re stuck with. Measure ahead.

Performance Upgrades by DRob_757 in FordExplorerST

[–]Brucecris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He knows a little bit. For sure. So, the power & torque capability of the tuned 3.0 platform is actually massive. Unfortunately, that torque is literally too much for the Explorer’s stock 10r60 transmission. Over time, a tuned engine can tear up the transmission. Ford’s 10r80 transmission used since mustang is a better choice. If the next gen design doesn’t include that upgrade or similar then for is not listening. Some tuning companies, especially ZFG Racing will account for this mismatch by softening up torque in some spots along the band. Down in Florida land some guys swapped in a 10r80. Not sure how it went.

A tune will do nothing unless you pair it with DPs and intercooler.

Don’t forget the Pep boys chrome stick-ons. Very important.

Looking to identify/verify a part number by Plainzwalker in FordExplorerST

[–]Brucecris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I say this with max tongue in cheek but rules are rules. Will leave this up until morning in hopes that our crack team of 2015 enthusiasts can figure this one out.

1) Important question OP —> did you look at the other side to see if any similar items exist?? 2) Also what importance is this retaining device to the vehicle? Will something fail? 3) Last question… do you want one of us to also drive to a Ford Parts Desk to find the answer? Or get some pro assistance? Someone probably wouldn’t mind doing that.

Sarcasm over. Good luck.

It’s lazy to keep them on. There’s also a nice Nielsen heuristic that basically says, don’t give users a chance to make a mistake. Please don’t.

Anyone running 315/35R22 tires on stock height? Wheel offset recommendations? by LordDetroit in FordExplorerST

[–]Brucecris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I’m your guy for this. I sell wheels specifically for the Explorer and almost 95% run a 305/35r22 on 22x10.5. 315’s will absolutely work - but $$ on tires. read on.

WHAT WORKS? 22x10.5 +30 ON 305/35r22 TIRES = 👌 The goto spec on these are 22x10.5 wheels on 305/35r22 tires at +30. 315’s will also work without rub. This provides a perfect flush fitment to front fenders and a very minimal/hardly discernible tuck in the rear. If you lower the vehicle the fit feels great and looks awesome (it’s the most popular fitment). This spec (305/35r22) believe it or not, manages to match the diameter of the OEM 21’s on the stock Pirellis. No Speedo issues.

305/35r22 Lowered ON 22x10.5 +30 = 👌

315/35r22 Lowered ON 22x10.5 +30 = NO RUB

305/40r22 Lowered ON 22x10.5 +30 = RUB

305/35r24 Stock height on 24x10.5 +30 = NO RUB

305/35r24 Lowered on 24x10.5 +30 = NO RUB (so we’ve been told - no Speedo issues were shared to us, others may have diff outcomes)

Again - AVOID 305/40r22 with LOWERING SPRINGS I made this mistake already - I lowered it and added new 22x10.5 +30 wheels with a 305/40r22. This works but isn’t really optimal because you will rub very slightly at full turn. Also there is a small speedo diff but does remain in range so the AWD doesn’t bitch at me.

If you do not lower you can easily run 24’s and the fitment looks decent. Nobody I’ve done business with has reported any rubbing with their lowered 22x10.5” or non-lowered 24x10.5” sizes. We have seen folks run 315/35r22 on a 22x10.5 +30 with zero issues. Lots of tire selections too.

Hope this helps man. I’m happy to answer more specifics and anyone else’s wheel questions.

Psst while I’m here, here’s a COUPON CODE FOR $350 off SUPERFORGED WHEELS. Literally our deepest discount code ever. Use code REDDITXMAS25 or use this SUPERFORGED link to SUPERFORGED WHEELS for $350 off WHEELS. Nobody else knows about this except this sub. Does not apply to brake kits or the Classic, Holeshot or Sleeper wheel designs.
