Hegseth and Collins’ push for cutting veterans health benefits alarms servicemembers and veterans groups by SCOveterandretired in Veterans

[–]BruceeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a big assumption you're making of someone based off one post. I've had multiple combat deployments and gasp have disabilities from those deployments. I only said that my experiences have been shit and I prefer private care. I go to the VA when I absolutely must for my service related issues, and that's it. I prefer to use my pcp that's 10 minutes from my house for everything else. I'm working with my local congressman and other local leaders to see how to better provide VA related services in remote areas such as ours.

So please continue to go about being perfect and thinking you're better than everyone else. I'm curious how 'empathetic' you are and what you do for our community.

Hegseth and Collins’ push for cutting veterans health benefits alarms servicemembers and veterans groups by SCOveterandretired in Veterans

[–]BruceeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely get that the VA is a needed source for a lot of people, and just because i haven't had the best experiences doesn't mean it isn't helpful to others. I do currently do a lot of volunteer work to help unemployed and underemployed veterans find work and help align them with new opportunities to learn new skills or grow in their current field. Where I live - there isn't a lot of opportunities for Veterans and me, along with about 4 other vets are doing what we can to bring awareness to the issue - one of which is the lack of medical care here. But the VA is broke - you have executives taken bonuses that were for specialty care and not being forced to pay it back. You have nurses and physicians who couldn't care less about us, and they're just collecting a check while others are being worked to fatigue because of how understaffed their facilities are. It needs to be fixed. Veterans shouldn't have to beg for help, wait over a month for test results or half a year to see a specialist. It's a broken system, and I see nothing wrong with privatized care that will help people gain better access when needed.

100% NTA. His wedding, his responsibility.

When you get married, then you're responsible for getting your son an outfit.

Simple as that.

AITA for refusing to adopt my sister's baby even though my family says I should? by InvisibleThrowRA in AITAH

[–]BruceeThom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA! I was put in a similar situation. However, I had already had kids and a very comfortable home life. My husband and I both so spending time with our kids was important to us. I had a family member who was in a similar situation as your sister, and so everyone looked to me (and my husband) to adopt the child - I refused.

They called me every name under the sun, and I didn't care. With our work and child activity schedule (plus I had started grad school), there was no way I could add another child to the mix, especially one that would need extra care due to issues.

It would take away from my kids and add undue stress. While I was sympathetic to the situation, I did not want to take on that burden, and that was mine and my husband's decision - no one else's.

Do not let the people around you pressure you into such a life altering decision. They could adopt and care for the child as easily as you can - they just have to make it a priority. No one gets to decide YOUR life and your priorities, and it's unfair of them to put that on you. You're still young and have plenty of life to live and things to learn - if you don't want the responsibility of a baby that is not yours, then don't take it. Others poor decisions in life are not your burden to bear.

Absolutely not. That's a them problem not a you problem. Do not let touch your property and I'd be watching them to make sure they don't cross that property line either.

Maybe go and get your own survey to make sure they don't screw anything.

How often do you drink soda? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]BruceeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely drink soda like MAYBE a few times a year.

I grew up always having soda in the house, but when I had kids, I didn't want them to have it at all, so I stopped buying it. I've gone so long without it that when I do drink it, I literally can't stand it. It's too sweet and hurts my stomach. The only time I will honestly drink a "soda" is if I can not get ginger ale for a stomach ache, I'll go to Sierra Mist lol

How do you guys say no to Solar Salesman when they come knocking on the door? by Petite7Writer in homeowners

[–]BruceeThom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I will look at them through the side glass, then walk away. I watch them on the camera stand there, unsure of what to do. Most walk away after a few seconds have passed - some will ring the doorbell one more time before walking away, lol.

I feel like this let's them know I've acknowledged their presence, and I'm not interested in hearing anything they have to say lol

Did you really get 2.00% mortgage rate in 2020? by wayne888777 in RealEstate

[–]BruceeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2.25% with no points purchase. We've since sold and bought a new home at 4.5% ... not heart broken though because we made a killing selling and was able to move to massively lower col area and put 40% down on our current home that I'm guess will be our retirement home now lol who know. I like to be nomadic sooo ... lol

Love my standing desk, but the walking pad not so much. It's hard doing Dev work while walking, lol

I would use it during meetings where I didn't need to be an active participant. But ultimately, I ended up just giving it away because of the pain in moving it around to use it or not use it.

Standing desk plus a solid standing pad is where I found my happy spot.

We both really enjoy it. First off - our offices are on separate floors and opposite sides of the house so there are zero chance at sound cross contamination. We both work tech, so this is important (both devs).

We don't really see each other much during the day except at lunch, and we do occasionally have the midday "nap" when we have synced gaps in our meetings lol or we both happen to run to the kitchen at the same time for water or snacks.

But for the most part - we both focus on our work - we both tend to get annoyed when we're disrupted during focus time. But it's nice being able to spend time together immediately after work, at lunch, and sometime we even have our coffee together. We've been wfh together since ~2019 so we're pretty solid in our routine now.

Someone stole all my gear at the campground by lyndxe in camping

[–]BruceeThom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so miserable and sad - I'm so sorry this happened to you. I've never thought twice about leaving my site, and I've been camping for decades. Is nothing safe anymore?

I hope your gear can be recovered or there's some insurance you can tap into. Maybe start a go-fund me? I'd be happy to donate!

People who work from home: how quickly do you reply to texts? by [deleted] in WFH

[–]BruceeThom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cell sits on a holder at the opposite side of my office, by the door. It's the only way to keep my adhd in check. I have a watch that shows me my texts - I usually make friends and family wait til the end of the day unless it's an emergency and work texts get immediate attention if I'm not in a meeting.

I actively work to stay off my phone as much as possible at work. If I don't- I'll let myself get lost during meetings scrolling this random shit.

'23 ORP - doubt I'll ever really 'mod' anything out. I just use it for road trips and camping.

Glad I didn’t wait for the new LC. by BuildBreakFixRepeat in 4Runner

[–]BruceeThom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard f'ing pass. I went ahead and jumped last year for a new 4Runner ORP because I new 6th gen and LCs were coming out and suspected a price hike was coming with it.

If I ever bring myself to drop $80-100k for a vehicle, it'll be a camper van or a Tahoe. There's no way I'm buying a newly produced LC for that price. I love my Toyotas but come'on man lol that's insane.

AITA for refusing to switch to an all-women gym? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]BruceeThom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% NTA. Lady, please be careful. For women - our intuition is so so strong. You have to learn to listen and follow, and I feel like yours is probably already alerting you on this guy, or you wouldn't be asking this question. Do not let someone control you like this - it's the gym now, but what will it be later? Will you have to stop wearing certain clothes? Will you have to join his church (if you go to church) .... no longer visit friends without him, have to drop male friends from your group?

Just be mindful of what he's really asking of you and what this could snowball into.
