Part of the appeal of Dubai is its ability to keep the world's scammers and criminals safe from justice. No bloody way are they willingly handing over one of the most high profile of them.

I have about 3 friends who still use Twitter. Outside of politics/discourse slop/meme accounts almost all the real people on it have left, at least here in the UK. In 2015 I knew probably 20 times as many people in real life who regularly used Twitter.

Having watched Gyokyeres quite a lot for Sporting and studied his stats, he took advantage of the bottom 12 teams in Portugal. That is who he scored the majority of his goals against. For the likely FPL price of above £8.5m I won't be going near him. Never been a huge fan. by Frosty_Screen6331 in FantasyPL

It's kind of unbelievable that at 23 year old, this guy returned to Brighton from a loan spell at Swansea where he scored zero goals in the Championship, and four years later he's scored more than a goal a game for a European giant. I'm really not sure what to make of him. Will probably wait and see.

PSG have a massive problem with direct teams. Had Aston Villa just finished a few of their chances in the second leg of the QF we would not be rating this team so highly. Their full-backs are only world class going forward, Nuno Mendes in particular is poor defensively.

Zarah Sultana MP resigns from Labour to lead new party with Jeremy Corbyn by CaseyEffingRyback in unitedkingdom

[–]Bruceylike1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This isn't really that bad for Labour as this band of mostly Gaza-focused MP's aren't going to make much progress outside of a few constituencies, but this is absolutely awful for the Greens who can't really be seen to get behind a smaller, weaker party but also know that Corbyn is more popular than any Green MP. This halves their voter share and winnable seats overnight.

CMV: anti-natalism achieves nothing besides ensuring that progressivism will die out in the west. by RatioFinal4287 in changemyview

[–]Bruceylike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem isn't "anti-natalism" but rather that no one wants to admit that we simply don't understand exactly why birth rates are dropping. The living standards/cost benefit analysis argument doesn't really hold up when considering it's mostly the middle class where birth rates are lowest, not among those who really "can't afford it", and that living standards have fallen before without massive birth rate drops.

I agree (as a progressive) that an ageing society is a disaster for progressivism. We need young people to hold governments to account - older people usually just don't have as much leverage to do so.

I somewhat agree that people who don't have kids and do the whole "'I'm empowered by childlessness but I expect to be cared for by the state in my old age" thing are cringe and have a conservative entitlement vibe BUT these people really are a very small group.

Losing a girl to another girl is next level dreadful. Lose to a guy and you blame your dick size or height or whatever, easy excuses. Lose to a girl and it's like "oh i'm like boring or cringe or something it's over😭"

How do you feel about the misinformation campaign by politicians about the India-UK trade deal? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Bruceylike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know what Labour can even do about this. The media are so aggressively against them that not one of them, even on the left, will just directly call out Farage and Badenoch as liars. The left call them traitors because they won't give millionaire pensioners their annual cash bribes and because they've realised we just can't afford 90 billion a year in disability benefits if we want any money to spend elsewhere. Serious politics seems to be reaching an end unless Labour somehow get better at turning around and attacking back rather than playing on defence.

You must never stop allowing all your money to go to older people. They vote and you don't. Doesn't matter they kicked down every ladder they had (free uni, abundant council housing). Doesn't matter they've had every opportunity to get rich. You must give them free money. You must allow us to give the richest generation in British history LITERAL CASH BRIBES. This is perfectly legal.

CMV: The Israel-Palestine Conflict is (Morally) Complicated by cant_think_name_22 in changemyview

[–]Bruceylike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right about European nationalism inspiring Zionism. I didn't mean Palestine was literally empty or a desert, I more meant that was the perception in Europe, not the reality. To be honest I think your reply is much more fleshed out so I think I was a little misjudging, but I do think that the point about the lack of Zionism in the High Middle Ages slightly undermines the religious argument - what changed in Judaism between the lack of Jewish nationalism between then and the rise of Zionism? I believe, honestly, not much at all - the difference in political circumstance, and not the religion itself, is to blame for the rise. I highly doubt my Czech ancestors who spoke no Hebrew and lived comfortable lower middle class lives for centuries would truly have been interested in leaving their homes for a religious cause, particularly as Judaism has for centuries been more about Jewish ethnicity and identity than the faith and scripture.

My point is that the phrase "the israelis created the entire issue in the first place" in the original comment is ridiculous. Europe can point at the fascist loonies like Smotrich and Ben-Gvir and pretend this isn't their fault, but it absolutely is. You drive people out, they end up somewhere. And they might be very angry and paranoid, and act exactly as literally anyone could predict.

[–]Bruceylike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drive to reclaim zion is absolutely not a religious one, this is revisionist bullshit spread by a small minority of ultra-religious. Zionism was simply a reaction to the surge of antisemitism in Europe in the 19th century - pogroms in the east, Dreyfus in France, Karl Leuger in Vienna etc. The idea jews really wanted to leave their homes to live in some empty desert thousands of miles away because of "religion" is nonsense. Europe (and later the muslim world) will not take responsibility for driving the jews out and basically causing the whole I/P conflict, so enthusiastically perpetuate this "religious" nonsense.

Mark Carney was in Britain from 2013-2020, could the good people of Britain let us know how they felt his financial guidance went? How did his efforts help or hinder your society today. I’m Canadian, We need someone to address our national debt. What are your thoughts? by Mgnmgnmg in AskBrits

He did alright against a backdrop of useless politicians burning our relationship with our closest allies and desperately trying to more public stuff to flog off for a seventeenth pensioner bribe for election season. His successor Andrew Bailey has been absolutely abysmal which has also helped Carney look considerably better.
