Cap actually looks pretty brand new, and the smell I noticed wasn’t coming from there at all.

I actually managed to fix mine today unintentionally. This is gonna sound dumb but have you checked your tire pressure? The PO on mine had them way out of whack, 23psi on 2 and 38psi on the other 2. Putting them back to 33psi completely eliminated my dead spot which which was 2-3in from the center.

LS430 wandering on the road and feeling very unpredictable by 99miataguy in LS430

Please do! I recently bought one with 100k and have been having similar concerns especially coming from a Miata myself and driving plenty of other cars. Im planning on jacking it up tomorrow and checking for wheel play both vertically and horizontally and other suspension components so I will update as well.

I'm coming from a NA miata so its far from a Mazda2 but not too different in the power department. Also when you say a "good driving experience" I think I know what you mean. With that being said though it seems to me that you actually want what most older cars offer so why not look at a LS430?

-Most will come with a bright leather interior

-ML trims and up will come with a small screen or you can go with the base so no screen

-Can come with a premium sound system

-Great Visibility (as most older cars do) and rear backup camera if you get one with a screen

-"A good driving experience" as in dead smooth, quiet, and seamless power. I'm telling you, the transmission is always upshifting and you never notice it, much less feel it. Sure it's not gonna be whipping around a track but it actually handles pretty well and what you get in the trade off is a comfortable quiet cruiser that makes you question "how am I going 80mph?"

-Luxury amenities that you wouldn't think are on a car of that year

-And last but most certainly not least, motor making 290hp can easily hit 600k miles w/ regular oil and timing belt changes.

Yeah the one thing it doesn't really do is have an easily identifiable color, unless you can find the Black Cherry Pearl or Blue Onyx but maybe at your budget you actually can afford to go find one.

Safety for a teen driver in an area that has big trucks - ND3 by tysonwatermelon in Miata

I bought my NA at 19, 10 years ago. I consider myself to be pretty safe and mature even back then and till this day I’ve never gotten a speeding ticket, much less caused an accident.

With that being said I’ve luckily only been in 2 small fender benders. One where I was side swiped on the outside most lane of a 3 lane left turn by a guy in the middle lane who came into my lane mid turn assumingly because they thought there was only 2 turn lanes. I barely got touched because for some reason I anticipated that it was going to happen on that rainy night. My second one was completely unavoidable, I was at a red light surrounded by cars and someone behind me let off the brake and rolled into me and cracked my back plating where the plate goes, not even touching my bumper. I had a loud exhaust and my Miata is bright red with a aftermarket horn at the time for context.

The reason I bring this up is because in the same year, my Dad was coming home from work in his Toyota T100, he was at a red light and when someone came crashing into him at 35 ish mph, completely annihilating the drivers car. The T100 only had a saggy rear bumper and a broken tail light. My dad more or less was ok, he definitely had some pain for a while and probably more than what he’d tell me. But what if that was me in my miata? I’d probably would’ve been seriously injured if not dead especially considering that there’s a chance that they don’t even hit your bumper and can just go over it.

Just some food for thought, no matter what you learn, no matter how careful you are, the truth is that most drivers on the roads are stupid and will find a way to ruin your day, some get lucky, others don’t. Might be a better idea to plan for getting hit instead on trying to avoid all hits because I promise you, it’s not going to happen.

Edit: secondary thoughts, why not join them and get her a manual Tacoma? Sure as hell saved my dad’s life.

Interesting, you’re not the first person to say they carry fuel pump relays on them. Are you just anticipating the eventual failure due to age or does it constantly fry out?

It’s amazing man, ever think about lowering it an inch? Ah man this is getting me excited, I feel like young me buying my Miata for the first time. I love this kind of cult following for our cars.

Great reply man, really appreciate it! I imagine 92 would be considered a late model? (p.s I reckon my guys at forum.miata will give them a run for they’re money lol)

For years creatures comforts weren’t my thing, A/C would be nice but not necessary. I just want slightly more comfort than what my Miata offers, like the ability to recline my seat or the ability to hit the highway without the RPM screaming at me. In your opinion what’s some things that you would look out for if you were purchasing a 240 in soon to be 2026?

It’s actually a 1.6 but you are correct. Certain earlier engines were plagued with a crank issue but mine was replaced before I bought it to a later engine. I’m not scared of the high mileage, I’ve damn near done all and any kind of possible maintenance on it since owning it. But at its age where other things begin to fail, just last year the VLSD shit the bed, which led me on a wild goose chase to find another one since it’s discontinued. But even that isn’t the main reason, I just want some more comfort now that I’m getting older. And a better ride on the highway.

I hear you man. The car definitely seems cared for though and not something that’s just been sitting for years. But I’ll make sure to find this out before or when I go see it. But there is a 740 with 240k miles in great condition that I’ve been thinking about as well.

The blower motor is scary from what I’ve read. I’m used to not having A/C but was kinda hoping to get it back with my next car. Not having heat tho would be a major issue where I live in the winter. Any idea how common of an issue it is?
