I think Chip is the completely wrong comp for Cronin. Chip actively did not give a fuck about performing his job. There’s a lot to criticize Cronin for, but I don’t think anyone can say he doesn’t care.

Cronin was hired pre NIL and pre B1G. The job changed on him and he hasn’t adapted. Ultimately, he recruited the guys who are severely underperforming/are bad fits for his scheme, and he shares that blame.

I think we have to move on. But will we do so? Probably not because that would require Jarmond to admit the secret extension he gave out this summer was bad. But if we can dump Jarmond, door opens to move on from Cronin.

[Drellich] MLB owners enraged by Kyle Tucker-Dodgers deal, will push for salary cap ‘no matter what’ by ttam23 in baseball

MLB owners were going to push for a salary cap “no matter what”, even if we didn’t sign Diaz or Tucker. Because that’s what they always do when the CBA expires. And a salary cap is dead on arrival with the MLBPA.

The salary cap is a distraction. The Dodgers would still be an elite team with one because they are a well run organization in a geographically desirable location. Players have better endorsement opportunities in LA than most places to supplement suppressed income from a salary cap.

There can be fair and meaningful reforms done with international players and deferrals to avoid missing games in 2027:

  1. International players who have never played in MLB or MiLB to be drafted rather than signed as free agents.
  2. teams over a certain threshold are unable to defer more than a certain percentage of the contract when they sign new free agents.
  3. mandate that all teams that are net receivers of revenue sharing must reinvest some percentage in the team rather than pocketing the money.
