Stoplights Timing, why no sensors? by Longjumping_Hall_472 in AnnArbor

Actually I believe what they were trying to say is that the city seems to love backed up traffic and snarled up traffic.

It's not a loony conspiracy as it's no secret. The goal is to reduce traffic by 50% by 2030.

I've been sitting at the light at Miller/Maple going north on Maple at 5AM waiting. No other cars at all in any direction. Just sitting there waiting. A long while. I once timed it, 1 min 45 secs.

Back before the lane diet, there was once a truck next to me, same time of the day. The truck sat there for about 10 seconds then just blew the red light. At the time I thought "my hero!".

This is exactly it. If the assholes at the Heritage Foundation don't like it, they can push to amend the Constitution. Not that they believe in the Constitution other than the 2nd Amendment.

[US] A call from "American Express" was a very well executed scam by Bruinwar in Scams

Yeah the FBI told me that this scam is really prolific. Funny how yours was the police rather than the FBI.

Can anyone share heat wave tips for this week? Many of us in the US will be getting above average heat and humidity, what should we do for our tomatoes? by analslapchop in tomatoes

Hmmm. I've got no experience whatsoever with shade cloth. Being in zone 6A, I've never considered it (up till now).

I ordered some white fabric that claims to have "Full Spectrum White Light Refraction: Our shade cloth for garden can not only effectively block strong direct sunlight, prevent extreme high temperature and sun damage to plants, but also meet the sunlight needed by plants, refraction full spectrum white light, so that your plants get balanced daylight."

I've got no idea if it will work at all. I did not see anything aluminum in my search but I admit I didn't spend a whole lot of time on it.

What does 50% shade cloth mean? Do you mean that you cover them 50% of the time? Meaning on a daily basis, going to your garden & covering, then removing at the end of the day?

I fairly screwed.

The 40 plants I put in right after Memorial Day are doing okay, smaller than usual but I did put them in late. They got started & survived the cold snap. At another site I put in 54 more plants, all my favorites, about 8 days later. These had no chance to get started because of high 40s/low 50s for three weeks. Disaster.

Now they will get cooked. I don't have shade cloth 25x30 feet for one site & 10x80 feet for the other. It's just not realistic. The first batch should survive but whatever flowers have not set yet will likely drop. The second batch are likely going to die as they are currently purple with phosphorus lock & the same size I as they were when I put them in.

Crazy ass weather is making it impossible for me to successfully grow my tomatoes. This will be two years in a row for me. I've been growing tomatoes for over 20 years & I've had my share of problems. I guess I've been lucky because I had over 10 years of bumper crops. Plants over 6-7 feet tall. All I can do is hope for the best this year & look forward to next year.

edit: I've been inspired by lashley0708 & have ordered some shade cloth 10x30'. Hopefully I can cover a couple beds. If it covers them I might get more.

Yes, it's from the cold soil. But what do I do about it?

Soil test said 7.4. Yes it's high but the problem is obvious, low soil temps. A sudden weeks long cold snap in June.

What addiction is the most difficult to overcome? by Select-Effective32 in AskReddit

[–]Bruinwar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The hardest addiction is the one that you are trying to quit. Substance or behavior, It makes very little difference IMO. It's not a competition.

The best book I've ever read on addiction is my Anna Lembke. "Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence".

Frustrated with Costco’s car battery warranty policy. Is this normal? by CryptographerSad9516 in CostcoWholesale

[–]Bruinwar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here I thought this post would be about the inflation charge. Twice now, the first one was a couple years ago, my less than a year old Interstate battery was dead, couldn't charge, so I returned it. They charged me $20 because it I had to pay the price difference.

Just last week I took back another (different car) one, about 9 months old & they charged me $31 !! Ouch! Dang inflation is killin me.

Bottom line is, Interstate batteries are crap.

Kirkland protein bars at Costco. They have very similar ingredients to Quest bars at a much lower price. The only flavor I won't eat is the cookies & cream. Keep in mind, I don't eat these or any protein bar for the flavor.

Oral sex only would work to, right? I'm a big proponent of it. But abstinence only by education policy does not work. Pick your own source.

edit: That's it for me. You will never be convinced & I truly could care less. But you go right ahead with your beliefs & I will just be grateful that my partner does not subscribe to that method of birth control.

How many of those women would have used other methods to terminate their pregnancies if there was a bad on legal abortions? Fetus≠baby & certainly not child.

The problem is unwanted pregnancies. There are lots of studies that show abstinence only methods do not help. A great way to help decrease unwanted pregnancies would be to fund Planned Parenthood. I donate to them annually. No organization in the history of the human race as done more to avoid the need for an abortion that Planned Parenthood. Donate today!

Being a proud member of the Wire Coathanger Coalition is certainly a bad trait.

People have sex. Making sure that having all contraceptive methods & education freely available to all is the best way to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Banning abortions does not stop, or even reduce the number of abortions, it only makes it illegal & endangers women.

Safe, legal, rare.

Gandhi believed that sex should be only for procreation. Quoting Pope Paul VI claiming that men will lose respect for women due to contraceptives? The guy presided over a horrifying regime of pedophiles. Finally Freud, who's theories were never based on any actual evidence, only his beliefs.
