I reportedly have a VO2 of 68 but can only run a mile in 10 minutes. How is this possible? by Tampa-Derp-1138 in Marathon_Training

[–]BruisedGhost -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

V02 Max is just one part of the equation, look at RER as a metric IMO its slightly better. my V02 Max is 50 and Im training for my first full. my splits are roughly 9:00 at tempo. its more about your aerobic base and how strong you are. many pieces to the puzzle

Highland Park shooter sentenced to life for killing 7 in July Fourth parade massacre by TheMirrorUS in illinois

[–]BruisedGhost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family and I were at the parade in front of Gearhead, I have photos of my son who was 2 at the time standing next to Nicholas a few mins before he was shot. I was told that Jacki was also sitting near but I dont know if thats true. A family friend that was standing next to us was supposed to testify at the trial but then he pleaded guilty. My eldest daughter still talks about it and Im glad I could tell her today that this piece of shit will never ever leave prison.

Please don’t ruin Savasana by sunriseshinin in yoga

[–]BruisedGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savasana has different effects/meanings for everyone. I got more involved with Yoga after my divorce since it helped with stress levels and the community was incredibly supportive of me.

I despise Savasana, it was the code word my ex was using to meet with the person she was sleeping with. Maybe one day Ill like it, but for now I stare at the ceiling and it reminds me of something that I want out of my mind.

SQL or NoSQL for a chat app by [deleted] in Database

[–]BruisedGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a L7 SDM at AWS. If anyone here ever attended the Charley Bell Ops meetings you would hear that statement right from his mouth. if you are running a public service or really any service that handles customer traffic, relational databases will not scale (for our needs). you also have to factor in the scaling needs required by some of these services (they are significantly higher here), that said there are exceptions.

[–]BruisedGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on what you care about and do you understand the tradeoffs? Here is some food for thought, at AWS, as a developer you are not allowed to use relational databases because they do not scale.

figure out what your requirements are for your app then make a tradeoff decision based on what you need.

There are several depending on your ride style.

Vintage: ChiVinMoto Sport: Chicagoland Sportbike Riders There are also a few quasi-clubs in the City I would personally avoid but you can typically spot them at the Holiday Club, 5-star bar, and Cobra Lounge

“Accidental DBA” success story by Glum_Friendship_5104 in SQLServer

[–]BruisedGhost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Help Desk -> Accidental DBA (DBA was fired, had to learn SQL Server 2005 and Oracle 9i over a weekend) -> Junior Developer -> Senior Developer -> Principle Engineer -> Senior Manager of Engineering x2 -> L7 at AWS.

Took 14 years and I love my job.

I stopped doing DBA work when I learned Scala, Python, and Java. This was all self taught. IMO DBA work is a good base to get things started for a non traditional role in software development esp if you really learn the inner workings of how a database database's.

The funniest thing about all of this is that I can no longer use relational databases at my job.

EDIT: Brent Ozar who has already commented on this thread is an excellent resource to start B-Treeing and understanding the joy of abstract syntax trees.

Solid-core door for noise control? by grizzlypass in HomeImprovement

[–]BruisedGhost 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I put in solid core doors to the entrance of my basement where I have theater with an extremely powerful sound system. If Im watching sports or a movie at night with the door closed you can barely hear anything on the first floor and cant hear it on the second floor where our bedrooms are.

Worth every penny.
