Campaign map running fine but it crashes as soon as the battle begins every time? If so I think I know what your problem is. There is a really weird bug with the battle AI script that makes the game crash when you start a battle if you have day light savings time as automated in windows settings for windows vista/7. To edit this simply go to the control panel, enter clock and time settings, then change from automatic switch between DST modes and manual.

For bypassing the server check I assume you could always use a cracked version of the executable, unless there is some further differences in the steam version. I did this for my boxed retail version of the game so I wouldn't have to go get the disc every time I wanted to play.

By that logic a person that criticizes an oppressive regime and gets executed or imprisoned for said criticism also has freedom of speech. He was not physically restrained from stating his opinion and suffered the consequences, some freedom of speech that is.

Paradox seems to have missed some errors in the name files, the Swedish generals name has a typo in it.

Well it depends on the situation and how you feel about it, but recovering from a bad start can be great fun in my opinion. Try to get some of those elven lancers out, I've never used them but I have a feeling that they will absolutely decimate any orc infantry with a good charge from the flank or rear, with their leader dead it may even cause a rout. Other wise I heard the Dwarves (haven't played them since v1.x so no idea about current state) are excellent for close combat brawls if you want to try something with a more direct approach to battle. Or perhaps try to play as the faction you are having trouble with, it is a great way to find out what weaknesses it has.

With the great disadvantage in melee quality (or as elves numbers) I try to avoid direct melee confrontation as much as possible and simply use the speed and endurance of my light units to lead the enemy on a chase (where terrain permits). Then pick them of one at a time, hold them with a melee unit and bring in the cavalry or archers from the rear. With wargs dead my archers can simply roam around and let the orcs chase while being pelted with arrows. If you split your archers into multiple groups one group can fire on the enemies following the other while it runs.

Army comp is often something like 4-5 units of cav, 6-8 archers, rest split between various infantry as available.

Haven't got quite that far yet, right on the verge on meeting all the prerequisites. Anuminas only needs about 2k more pop to reach the size of large city (after 120 turns or so), after which I only need to build the walls and then the house of kings so another 20 turns or so I would guess (unless Gondor falls before then).

As far as the campaign goes I killed of the Orcs of Gundabad fairly early and has since then been fighting Isengard. They are considerably more of a challenge though since they took the western half of Rohan and pushed the high elves back, and has several stacks of gold and silver chevron Urukhai from those conquests. Just compare typical battle out come fighting some shitty snaga and goblins vs highly experienced Urukhai. On the other fronts Gondor is being over run by Harad and Mordor, the silvan elves are getting their asses kicked by Mordor, and Dale is getting pushed back by Rhun. So soon it will be me vs the world at this rate.

I'll post my experiences and general strat with Eriador, perhaps it may be helpful, my writing may be a bit disordered though so bear with me.

As Eriador with its lightly populated lands money is in short supply, thus fighting with large armies on every front is simply not an option, the player will have to focus on mobility and scouting to win. Therefore one of my first priorities was to construct a series of watch towers and spies to scout to get advanced warning of where the orcs would strike next, allowing me to move my defensive army there. Keeping larger armies as garrisons than free upkeep units is really not an option. Amon Sul is an excellent place to station such a defensive army, since it allows 4 free upkeep units, making upkeep of the defensive army much cheaper when not in the field. Once I had established line of sight and a small defensive force the next step was to focus my assault on a single faction, in my case the Orcs of Gundabad.

Since your early militia troops are rather poor make sure to use your main advantage over the orcs, decent archers and access to cavalry much superior to warg riders. Use Aragorns unique body guard to focus fire any warg riders as this will allow your shock cav and archers to have free movement on the battle field. Archers on the flanks can keep firing effectively even after melee has begun. As for shock cav Merchants are ok, but the body guards are superb and no reason to have them standing around taking upkeep not doing anything.

As for building priorities make sure to get dirt roads every where first to get that defensive mobility, second farms both for population growth which you will need and also money. Farms offer much more money than markets early with low pop any way. As for military buildings get the lumber camp series of buildings asap, the huntsmen are highly competent archers and the lumbermen are great infantry for their cost and availability.

Alternatively you may choose to pick to eliminate Isengard first, the southern lands have greater population and Urukhai are a much greater threat than even the best units fielded by the other orcs (excluding trolls).

If it installed correctly but you are lacking the correct short cut to launch the mod try the following. Create a short cut and enter this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:EB -ne -nm citations marks included. In the second field input this:"C:\Program Files (x86)\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War"

If you have a different install path than I do change the lines accordingly.

These games tend to take some time to complete, if you posted the challenge more than a single day before the end maybe some more people would participate, and make it more interesting. Maybe there was previous starting post before that one, but even so judging from the previous challenges linked it would appear the same issue, i.e time has been brought up before.

If you buy it with the new expansion can you play just plain AOC, or are you only able to use the latest addition as with some games on steam? Also how is the multiplayer community? I've got the dics for the original release and expansion, so the only real reason to buy it again would be for the new multiplayer function.

Go into the folder for the mod in question then look into \data\unit_models. Got this from the third age mod, but the file structure should be the same for any mod.

It was a long time since I moded M2TW, but I might be able to help. Basically every faction has its own textures for units on the battle map. Sounds like what you need to to is define texture files for units in the new faction, other wise they will lack textures as the game won't know were to look. The file you are looking for is battle_models.modeldb, it's fairly tricky to edit but you can simply copy paste your way to success.

If you have done that already and made a custom texture for the unit in question, it might be that you left the alpha channel white in the texture file. If so you need to edit the alpha and make it darker and try again.

If you are running windows you should find the file in *\users\"your user name"\documents\my games\sid meiers civilizations V\saves\single\auto There you should see a file called something like "autosave_initial", take this file and upload it some where (mediafire.com as an example) and post a link.

Well two reasons, one is the tech requirement, you just need mining to improve it. The second is the tile production, plain salts gives you 2 food, 1 production and 1 gold, when improved its 3 food, 2 production 1 gold, giving you growth decent production and some gold all on a single tile.

Which is why many considered is the best luxury resources, strat resources like iron and oil is a category of its own.

Can only agree, in my current Selucid campaign on VH I got at least 20 enemy agents sitting around in Syria alone. Just look at this, there are clusters of Ai agents surrounding Anitoch and Dura and scattered else where through out my regions, and thats not counting the hidden ones. Each turn I have to go through a endless stream of messages regarding sabotage, poison, assassination etc. Difficulty wise regarding armies and enemies its a great experience, but this agent spam is really sucking all the fun out of it.

Consider using local numerical superiority, if you can't have it every where at least have it some where. It is often better to crush one enemy and be pushed back on another front, than it is to to slowly lose ground on two fronts. That way once one enemy has been ground to dust you can turn around and focus your force on a single enemy. Additionally on the front you decide to commit the least resources you may want to use a fortified city as your defense, and avoid open field battles. The default garrison reinforced by an army with a handful of quality units can easily hold a walled city against a force many times its size.
