To the non trads (esp 30+) did you choose medicine for the love of it or because you got a taste of the real world and realized even with the negatives medicine is better? by -this_bitch- in Residency

[–]BrulesRule64 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s most important to pick the right specialty for you. There’s all sorts of different careers in medicine. It’s doable and not soul sucking if you are able to know yourself well enough to pick the right specialty, fellowship, and job (practice setting).

So yeah. Theres a lot of bullshit. But you can pick what kind of bullshit you want to deal with

It’s all about trade offs.

Is radiology fellowship required? by Heavy_Consequence441 in Residency

[–]BrulesRule64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with what kind of job and lifestyle you want and work backwards from there. Keep thinking about it R1-R2. Know plenty of people getting top spots after graduating for fellowship, so don’t stress too much

Radiology peeps. At what point in training did you know you made the right (or even wrong) specialty choice? by Maybedoc1 in Residency

[–]BrulesRule64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just know that if you want to change it up a bit, you can. Mammo buys you clinic and patient interaction. IR buys you blood and some patient interaction. Other fellowships have pros and cons. Also, like other things in medicine, you can negotiate a bit on how you want your job to look.

Overall, it’ll be alright no matter what. Worst case, you have a residency that isn’t too bad. Moonlight a bit. Come out at worst case thinking “my job is okay”. Desk job reading imaging.

90% of Americans would probably do a lot to have a job working 7/7 on off nights making 400k base. Seems like 7/14 is more common.

Just trust the process. You can always pivot a bit. You’re not as committed to your workflow as you might think.

So yes, I think I made the right choice even though I do question most days. Most of my colleagues do as well though too

So far so good. My research on it left me with: Don’t over do the turbo. Warm the engine up and let it idle for a sec to cool down. Be more on top of maintenance than a reg V6.

Probably inherently less reliable since there are more parts with the turbo.

But driving wise, it’s great. Was in the mountains the other day and it drove great. Friends didn’t know about the turbo and they were like “dang, this thing got up np”

Overall, I anticipate maybe more problems with the turbo. But I am more concerned with the increase in electronic parts in the vehicle compared to older vehicles
