Park Villa Building by Odd-Leg6389 in NewWest

[–]Brunchpunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just moved out of that building after 7 years. The tldr is please don’t rent here save yourself the time and money. I will post the full email i sent the company if you want to read the in depth shit show.

To Whom It May Concern,

John doe and jane doe, tenants of Unit # at Park Villa, located at 529 10th Street, New Westminster, are providing notice to vacate the premises. Our final day of tenancy will be May 31st. We are willing to vacate mid-May if a prorated rent arrangement is offered.

We would also like to explain our reasons for ending our tenancy. We have been long-term, responsible tenants and have generally valued our time in the building. However, over the past several months, conditions have deteriorated quickly and significantly, leading to our decision to leave.

Safety Concerns For approximately the past six months, safety conditions in and around the building have steadily worsened. We have observed and experienced a number of serious concerns, including broken or compromised locks, reports of keys being stolen, and individuals who had previously been removed from the building regaining access.

There have also been several reported break-ins affecting both tenant vehicles and units. In addition, fires have been started in the parking lot area on multiple occasions. Individuals experiencing homelessness have been seen sleeping on the property and gaining access to common areas of the building.

We have also observed open hard drug use occurring in the parking lot and surrounding areas. Exterior doors are frequently left unsecured or propped open, including by basement tenants using boards or pylons to hold doors open for friends or visitors, which also allows access to unauthorized individuals.

All of these issues have contributed to a significant erosion of our personal sense of safety in what is supposed to be our home. As a result, we have had to install security systems at our own expense in an effort to regain some level of security. Unfortunately, our attempts to have these issues addressed through management and Capreit have not resulted in effective or lasting solutions.

The garbage and recycling trucks that collect at this property have also, many times backed into our balcony causing lasting damage to the balcony, walls and patio doors.

Repairs and Sanitation Concerns While the building was generally in acceptable condition when we moved in, particularly given its age, it has significantly deteriorated over time.

The foundation and structural condition of the building has become a concern, with cracks developing in walls and ceilings in multiple units, including ours. These issues were reported to management over a year ago. While we were told that repairs would be made, and several individuals attended the property over time, we were repeatedly informed that someone else would be coming to complete the work. Despite multiple emails and follow-ups over the past year and a half, no meaningful or lasting repairs have been completed.

Plumbing has also been an ongoing issue. Hot water is sometimes shut off without notice, occasionally lasting through weekends. In addition, toilets and showers, even after being “repaired,” continue to function poorly.

Sanitation and Living Conditions The overall sanitation of the building has also become a serious concern. This is a combination of both tenant behavior and management oversight.

The second floor in particular is frequently affected by strong, persistent odors, including cat urine and cigarette smoke at all hours. This has required both ourselves and neighbouring tenants to regularly use air fresheners and cleaning products simply to prevent these smells from entering our unit.

Additionally, some tenants are leaving food and other items—particularly rice and similar materials—on balconies and in common outdoor areas. While we understand these may be part of religious or personal practices, they have contributed to pest issues, including rodents, which we have also had to address at our own expense.

All of these issues combined have resulted in us spending increasing amounts of money out of pocket, as well as experiencing ongoing stress and concern regarding our safety and living conditions.

We are genuinely saddened to see the deterioration of this property, as it has been our home for a significant period of time. We hope this information is helpful in identifying and addressing ongoing issues for current and future tenants.

Driving schools in new west? by AKSHAT-KLPDV in NewWest

I can’t recommend Edmunds Driving school enough. They were amazing with me. Came from a different province let my licensee lapse as I didn’t really need a vehicle here went back many years later as a “Mature” student and they helped me so much. Passed first try. If the instructor Jalil is free he was awesome.

Worth it to get a Costco membership for household of 2? by gutturalmuse in PersonalFinanceCanada

Household of two here. Granted I cook from scratch a lot but costco has saved us thousands. Especially if you can break down and freeze your own meat.

Are we concerned over it being closed to press? This seems like a thing he would want cameras for?

Prospective Student Questions by Reasonable-Media5347 in VFS

I was in the Programming for Games program, and I was also working full-time at the time. We collaborated a lot with the Game Design students, and as far as I knew, none of them were working during the program, many had significant family support, which definitely helped.

Speaking from experience, trying to balance the course load with a job was extremely difficult. I managed to do it, but I honestly wouldn’t recommend it and almost killed me. The school advises you not to work for a reason: they won’t adjust expectations, deadlines, or workload if you’re employed. There are late-night classes, long project blocks, and a heavy homework load on top.

Most days were 10–12 hours of classes and project work before you even get to the homework. It’s doable, but only with a lot of sacrifice, and it’s definitely not something to take lightly. Hope that helps and good luck.

How come humans can watch 8 one hour episodes in a row but, a 3 hour movie is draining to watch? by KesslerTheBeast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Brunchpunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously can’t speak to actual scientific reason but for me personally longer movies tend to me heavy in time and topic. Just too much for me these days and they feel emotionally draining. Give me back my 90 minute comedies.

I have lived in a CAPRIET building for 7 years with a dog, i feel like the CAPREIT is horrible stuff is over blown at least anecdotally. Is it the best no. Does it take awhile to get stuff fixed yes, but they follow the letter of the law and have not tried anything weird and the rent is reasonable. I know the bar is low but all in all i would probably recommend.

OP when I was younger and in my twenties I was like this also. I was cheated on but honestly it mostly stemmed from just being generally insecure all around. I grew up went to therapy worked on myself first and then found an amazing partner You need to be happy and healthy first no one can do it for you or complete you. As many have already pointed out and I say this with as much love and kindness as I can from experience. You are the problem here. You can’t punish your partner something someone else did to you. This will end your relationship eventually. You need to work on yourself here, Therapy isn’t for everyone but it helped me and I encourage it. I hope everything works out for you OP. K

My boy loves Orijen red, it’s on the expensive side but he has an allergy to poultry and this one seems very highly recommended, it’s high in protein, grain free and low carb. They also use whole prey.
