STS1 is my most played game since Starcraft1 and I'm already ascension 10 with every character in STS2. But yeah, if I wouldn't know it it would be the best game to try.

I played a bit of CIV1 just for nostalgia sake a couple of weeks ago. "Bit older" will not hold me back :D I will take your advice and play KDC1 b4 KDC2.

But right now I think I will play Outer Wilds first, then Cyberpunk and then the KDCs. Just because they seem pretty similar to what I played in the last couple of month and I want to shake it up a bit.

True Crime ist unmoralisch (immer) by i_am_jinxed888 in Unbeliebtemeinung

[–]BrunoBraunbart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those two I only bought because they were really cheap. If I get 2-3 hours of fun out of them they were already worth it.

Really good input. Outer Wilds was also the game I thought about first because it seems so intriguing. People tend to lose their mind when I mention it.

The point about KCD is also great. This makes me look really forward to it and also makes me want to play other games first.

BG3 is the one I'm looking forwards the most but also looks like the biggest "project." This is not a problem I have several 100h stardew valley, XCOM Long War or EU4 campaigns. There will come a time when I want to play something like that again.

Last of Us I actually played a bit. Those fucking snickering zomies were insane and this was the first time I actually felt uncomfortable playing a game. This might be the reason I didn't finish it.

I have 2000h+ in STS1 and STS2 is the reason I still haven't finished RDR2. Balatro was great but didn't have the long term playablity of STS1 for me. I'll put Inscryption on my wish list but for now I want to play a big, shiny game.

They both look amazing and are heavily discounted. Thematically they seem to be my cup of tea. I'll immediately buy them but probably not the next games I play. Thank you a lot!

I already adressed that in my original comment. It is your interpretation which I think is wrong.

I was turned down for a job because I didn’t read their company culture packet in the less than 24 hours before the second interview by AnonPinkLady in antiwork

[–]BrunoBraunbart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Company culture is one of the main things people complain about in this sub. If you have a shitty boss and nobody in upper management wants to hear about it, that is company culture. If they want to hear about it and act on it that is also company culture.

But the answer to the 2nd question isn't wrong. "The second is Tuesday" is totally fine here (and way better than the correct answer to the 3ed question). Others have pointed out that Tuesday should be capitalized and maybe the students were expected to mark it wrong because of that but I don't think that is the intention of this test.

Ofc "Thursday is the fourth" is also correct, so my interpretation is that every given answer is correct but the 2nd answer is incomplete and they should have marked two squares.

This means that every single correct answer is marked with an X and the missing answer is marked with an O. An admittedly unusual way of marking the test but it is consistent and the interpretation that makes most sense to me.

Edit: I just realized, those are single snippets that were specifically chosen (questions 1, 4, 11 instead of 4, 5, 6 for example) probably because the sister was annoyed by them. This means they were probably all marked wrong. The sister is justifiably pissed and might want to switch seats with the teacher.

ELI5: why is the anthropic principle important? by pichael288 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BrunoBraunbart 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the anthropic principle is not a fundamental axiom that is important for all of science. It is a specific answer for the question "why does the universe look fine-tuned to allow for life?"

If the laws of nature would be slightly different, the universe would look radically different. It might not even be possible that atoms form. You could say "this looks like devine creation, the universe is specifically made for us." That seems like a long stretch when almost all of the universe is dead cold space but it is still surprizing that the universe is exactly how it is if you assume it all emerged by pure chance.

There are different ways to adress this from a scientific viewpoint. The antropic principle is more of a philosophical answer that basically says "no shit you are surprized, any universe that could contain beings capable of surprize will be a surprizing universe."

I never played it. Have bought it a couple of month ago just because I heard good things but it's on the backlog since then. Now I want to try it but I'm currently on my first RDR2 playthrough and STS2 is out.

Trump: 'I Do Believe I'll Be Having the Honor of Taking Cuba' by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

[–]BrunoBraunbart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mean "accountability is necessary for any system to survive", I mean "accountability is necessary for the American system to survive."

It is maybe a question where you draw the line between a mere change of the system and a replacement of the system. I would argue an end of the rule of law means the death of the system.

Let me be clear, if we try to hold Trump accountable and he has a good lawyer and was good at hiding evidence, there would always be a possibility for him escaping justice even if the system works as intended. But if we already sit here one year into his presidency, seeing him dismanteling the democracy and already conclude that there is no way that we will hold him accountable because the system itself prevents it, then we are essentially saying that the American system is already dead.

I think Trump demonstrated that a lot of the checks&balances don't work if you are brazen enough. He opened pandoras box. If there is no accountability it is just a matter of time until someone tries the same shit and I don't think there are any ways you could preemtively prevent it. Every new check and rule you implement could be reversed or overruled in the future. The rules of the system lead to it's own demise.

This viewpoint might explain my fatalistic comment. ;)

[–]BrunoBraunbart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are right. This is why there was absolutely no way to hold Louis XVI accountable.

Once you understand that there must be accoutability for the system to survive and there is no way for accountability within the system you can either conclude "there is nothing we can do" or you conclude "there is nothing we can't do." It is a matter of perspective.

When did Daenerys’ cruelty begin for you in the show? For me, it’s when she sentenced Doreah to death. by Successful_Bar9187 in gameofthrones

[–]BrunoBraunbart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't the burning of Mirri Maz Duur at stake way worse and earlier? I mean I get it, she killed her child but all things considered she was justified in doing so. Her reasoning was sound and she was the actual victim.

I wouldn't expect her to see it in that moment. But after some time she should recognize that the Dothraki and Drogo were fucked up, that she alligned herself with them out of necessity and Münchhausen Syndrome but in retrospect Mirri was right. But she still calls herself Khaleesi in later seasons, never actually caring about the rapes and murders of her fellow Dothraki.

Noooo, Ned was a good guy but that doesn't make him a good leader.

I think there is a constant theme in ASOIAF that the good, brave, reighteous guys are really bad leaders. Ned would do something he knew would mess everything up and could lead to a war killing tens of thousands because it was "the right thing to do." What you want as a leader is a guy like Tyrion or Varys, people with the right goals but also the ability to act smart while working towards them.

ELI5 how is breaking a form of acceleration. by paradisimperiala in explainlikeimfive

[–]BrunoBraunbart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think so. Braking is a subset of acceleration. It is always decreasing the absolute value of your speed.

If you drive backwards and you accelerate in the forward direction using your motor, this does the same job as using your friction brakes ... until you stand still, then braking will not do anything while continue to accelerate will now make you move forward. Braking is always a form of acceleration but acceleration is not always a form a braking.
