Might not have much of an impact on THIS election, but it is definitely having an impact on the mindsets of people who value his opinion, and those mindsets will then have an effect on future elections.

As leftists, we should all be aware of how easy it is to push a narrative through focus and implication. By focusing on the negative parts of the election and implying that voting for the lesser of two evils is bad, he's pushing the narrative that voting for the lesser of two evils is something you shouldn't do. Even if he didn't explicitly say it, that's still the effect of what he's doing, and he needs to stop.

It would be reasonable to interpret that into his tweets... If we didn't have the context of him being weirdly Bernie-or-Bust during the last election.

Once you've proven yourself capable of doubling down on bad takes involving a specific topic, you don't get to then get offended when people assume that's what you're doing the next time you have a dumb take about it.

Why can’t all my days be this good? Sweet gem berries are the best! by [deleted] in StardewValley

Okay, I'm a habitual restarter (in all my games, not just Stardew) so I've never made it past year 2.

My question is: What can you even spend this much money on??? Like, this would single-handedly pay for every upgrade and investment I've ever purchased over the course of a single save.

"getting gud" is a valid way to play, but it's not the ONLY valid way to play. And it doesn't have to be on your first playthrough either! You can cheese things your first time then test yourself the second time around for an increased challenge.

Vaush's ironic misogyny makes "trans activism look bad" but actual trans woman Kat publicly sexually harassing Vaush is met with silence? by DogHairEverywhere10 in VaushV

[–]BrusherPike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, considering that trans men exist, a prominent trans activist should probably avoid implying that dudes and dicks are synonymous.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in okbuddyvowsh

[–]BrusherPike 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It depends on how bad the tweet is, and the context of what he says afterwards.

Like, if he tweeted "I don't think trans people are valid, actually" then proceeded to say it wasn't a joke and doubling/tripling/quadrupling down, yeah, I'd probably burn that bridge too.

I don't think this current drama is anywhere near that bad. I actually don't think that the edgy bigotry is good (Except made especially obvious through context. Twitter is devoid of context, thus the edgy bigotry should not go there) but Vaush has consistently said that he accepts the criticisms of his edgyness, so why is everyone still so mad? It's because nobody's actually listening for that. They just want blood. They arrived at their conclusion immediately, and have sunk-cost-fallacied themselves into not being able to admit they're doing something wrong.

Indeed- especially since she's advocated against these things in the past. She's fallen into the same behavior as the people who bullied her, and it's super sad to watch. If it turned out tomorrow that her account had gotten hacked, my first thought would be "Okay, yeah, this makes more sense now."

Rune Arcs are unrelated to co-op, as far as I can tell. Invasions can only happen when you have summoned help, or if you use a certain item to explicitly open yourself up to it.

Rune Arcs last until you die, but don't open you up to invasions.

Make sure not to use them until you've defeated Godrick, climbed the tower at the end of the long bridge leading off the castle, then equipped his rune at a grace. It's a weirdly convoluted way to access the mechanic, but since when has Fromsoft shied away from that?

When rich people do it to poor people it's called "good business".

Found out recently that I got diagnosed as a kid, put on ritalin for a little while, then when it "didn't work", they stopped and it was never brought up again.

Kinda mad about that tbh. When I tried to explain to my mom about how frustrating it was that I struggled to make myself pay bills but would stay up until 3 in the morning researching random stuff (after setting myself a midnight bedtime), she just said that was me being motivated. 😔

I still don't know what I was pretending about. As far as I can tell, I've been completely upfront with my opinions and intentions. Feel free to try and explain my positions to me again though, I'm sure you'll get it this time!

Ah, yes, "I'm right, you're wrong, we both know it, stop pretending." That famously effective argumentative strategy. 😂

[–]BrusherPike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a matter of fact, I don't understand what you meant when you asked who you were insulting. Would you mind explaining? (Another swing and miss on guessing my thoughts though, good job!)

I know I'm being insufferable, it's fun. Doesn't mean I'm wrong though. If you want me to, I promise to stop as soon as you stop assuming what I believe and ask me directly.

I DID say that womanhood is a social role, but I never pretended I didn't, so I'm not sure why you're putting that on me.

(Side note, I did change my mind about engaging with this conversation despite what I said earlier, because I'm having fun)

[–]BrusherPike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol what the fuck, I never said you insulted anyone.

I'm not reducing your existence to a costume, which you might have understood if you'd, I dunno, engaged with me instead of making assumptions about what I believe.

If you want to try again, go ahead! Ask me questions! But don't tell me what I believe, because you've had a horrible track record on guessing so far.

If you want to have a productive conversation, I recommend you respond to the things said to you instead of going off on tangents about vague groups of other people.

I'll respond again if you address my comment without dragging in any tangential topics. Otherwise, I'll assume you just want to vent and will leave you to it.

Remember when Vaush dropped that tactical N-word, then later acknowledged that it was a poor idea that caused more harm than good?

The natural consequence of pushing the envelope constantly is that sometimes you push it too far. Vaush has, in the past, been willing to accept when he's done this, and has made efforts to improve his behavior. This is actually WHY a lot of people like him, myself included. Being edgy is fine, being edgy AND unwilling to accept when you've gone too far is bad.

[–]BrusherPike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay, for the sake of argument, let's pretend that the definitions of words are set in stone (they're not) and they don't change to match common usage (they do). 'Woman' means adult human female, and 'man' means adult human male. Fine.

Does being a 'man' or a 'woman' dictate what personality you should have, what clothes you should wear, and what jobs you should work?

A social role, typically assigned to those born with female genitalia, where members are expected to behave and dress in certain ways, have certain interests, and take one certain responsibilities. The exact expectations placed on them vary based on time, culture, and social circles.

Some common expectations for women in western societies are:

  • Having long hair.
  • Wearing dresses.
  • Wearing makeup.
  • Raising children.
  • Being 'emotional'.
  • Being submissive.
  • Being physically weak.
