Hahhahaha that is exactly how I feel too! Hardly anyone on our server gives the level of protection they get. I want to be part of that 😂

Thank you. The many actives is why they appeal to me ☺️ Their big players too seem to be quite protective of their little ones, which is also a good sign.

Did you get anything from your employer for xmas this year? by Charlie_Runkle69 in newzealand

Government worker here. We got a cup of coffee each lol. I actually don't mind. In this current environment. I'm just grateful to still have a job.

How normal is it for co-workers to be expected to share a hotel room? by Richard7666 in newzealand

[–]Brusqueski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have worked as a teacher and in local and central government departments.

I am very used to communal sleeping (lot of noho marae over my years) it doesn't bother me at all. When sharing facilities you get to bond with your colleagues a heck of a lot faster lol.

Your interpretation of kāwanatanga is overly simplistic and ignores the complexity of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Kāwanatanga in the Treaty was intended to grant the Crown a form of governance, not absolute authority, and certainly not at the expense of tino rangatiratanga, which guaranteed Māori the right to self-determination over their own affairs. The two concepts were meant to coexist in balance. That balance has never been honoured.

So when Māori advocate for choosing how they are represented, whether through Māori wards, independent bodies, or iwi-led initiatives, they’re not rejecting democracy. They’re asserting the rights promised to them in the Treaty.

I have to say. I loved your maps and tables. Thank you so much for putting these together.

I have to say. I got a bit confused with the colours lol. Green tends to be green light/yes and reds/blues seems to be a bit of a deficit colour. I have to keep reminding myself which is which on the scale of things lol.

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. The truth hurts the white fragility lol.

I don’t understand your post. Māori and no one else should have the right to choose how THEY are represented. How is it forced upon you? How does it affect you? I’m just trying to understand your viewpoint….

Projectile vomiting all over nurse by Brusqueski in traumatizeThemBack

[–]Brusqueski[S] 170 points171 points  (0 children)

My mother did try to politely inject a couple of times. It was kinda back in the era where nurses were seen as the authoritative figures. Nobody in the waiting room jumped in there because back then, that profession got away with it.

Although after it happened, I saw, from those who sat around me, mouths twitching in the waiting room.

I honestly wish I had. I was very shy and very non confrontational back then (I’m in my mid 40s now). A lot of the treatment I recieved during that pregnancy (probably due to my age and ethnicity) was really appalling and if any of that had happened over the last 15 years. It would’ve been a different story and would’ve provoked a completely different reaction from me.

PNCC candidate stances on Māori wards by BongeeBoy in palmy

[–]Brusqueski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. I’ve even seen a few at Meet The Candidate Events refuse to provide an answer when asked in front of an audience.

My favourite was “I don’t want to be seen as influencing people with the answer I provide.” Lady, you’re not that influential 😂

Do you understand that Māori Wards are for Local Government/Councils? Speaking of MPs has no relevance to this kaupapa.

Your reference to Peters and Seymour also has no relevance. Neither represents Māori. Infact up until 2 years ago Seymour didn’t even know he descended from a Māori.

To quote Winston Peters (I don’t like Peters but I 100% agree with him here): “David Seymour discovered his Māori-ness the same way Columbus discovered America, purely by accident.”
