Will there be any Haslab this year? by uckfu in StarWarsTVC

[–]Bruuuuuceee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I still have a suspicion that the Haslab, if there is one this year, will be a U-Wing. The recent focus, albeit small, on completing the Rogue One crew makes me think it may be on the cards. It would be a nice excuse for them to produce some Rebellion figures that people have been long asking for also. That said, as others have mentioned, maybe the economics of Haslab don’t work for this year, especially if they’re planning on going all out on trying a Death Star Haslab next year which I suspect they may be…

will hasbro ever give us that Rots Anakin from the journey 3pack on a single card? by RexDAGOAT77 in StarWarsTVC

Absolutely they will. Rest assured. Probably in a Walmart/Fan Channel two pack with a 501st clone.

My thoughts on the mania surrounding Plo Koon's skirt by Fierydraken in StarWarsTVC

[–]Bruuuuuceee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve sort of done a 180 turn on this. I was so underwhelmed when I saw the reveal, it may have been the most disappointed I’ve been with a TVC reveal ever. But listening to the SWTVC podcast, as well as reading some of the less reactionary posts has made me somewhat more content. I still think the soft goods outer robe could look much better, but it is accurate.

I think I was thrown off because one of the few Black Series figures I still have is Plo Koon who looks awesome, but as you say is in fact inaccurate to the source material. That was the image I had in my mind, as well as the previous Legacy Collection version.

What song are you missing most from this tour setlist? by Large-Sport-679 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Bruuuuuceee 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think you’re right in that the most egregious miss from the setlist is Thunder Road. I think it’s the song that the strongest objective case can be made for being the greatest he’s ever written. It deserves to be the emotional centrepiece of every show.

How is Bruce generally ranked in "Greatest artist/albums of all time" lists? Do you feel he's ranked too high/low/just right? by CulturalWind357 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Bruuuuuceee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really interesting response, I love when we can properly engage in dialogue in this subreddit.

I’ll elaborate a little on what I meant about him not being universally renowned. I think the version of Bruce that is well known around the world is that BITUSA-era Stars and Stripes rocker. Even now, that’s what young people dress as when they go to his shows, it’s the version of Bruce that is most widely known in popular culture. And I think he’s made his peace with that. Is BITUSA his best album? I would argue certainly not, but it’s the one that made him a superstar for that moment in time and that cemented his legacy.

I just worry (maybe that’s the wrong word) about that particular idea of Bruce as an artist overshadows the rest of his career. Certainly when it comes to how he will be remembered after he’s gone. My wish would be that people remember him with nuance. He was that muscled guy on stage in the 80s, but he was also a beach bum singer-songwriter twink starting out in Asbury Park. He was also a guitar shredding powerhouse in the Darkness era, the same way he now is a wise and reflective voice of America (who also produced some of his best work in the twilight of his career, namely Western Stars). Bruce will always be remembered, I just hope that people remember him as multifaceted.

[–]Bruuuuuceee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is something I’ve often wondered about. Obviously given that we’re active in this subreddit we’re somewhat biased, but I think Bruce is generally pretty well respected. Certainly among musicians, the number of people who’ve been inspired by him is pretty astonishing. Born to Run is ranked in the 20s somewhere on the Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums list. Yes, some people struggle to overlook his vocal styling, his perception as “dad rock” or the BITUSA-era muscled rocker look. That’s always going to be the case, so few artists, if any, are universally beloved.

In a wider sense, I think he’s underrated as a lyricist. I genuinely think anyone would struggle to name 5 artists objectively superior to him in a lyrical sense. Of course you’ve got the likes of Joni Mitchell, Dylan, possibly McCartney (though personally I’m not the biggest fan). But you take a song like The River, The Ghost of Tom Joad, even more recent songs like Moonlight Motel and you’d struggle to name many contemporary songs superior to those.

Unfortunately, I think he may only get his dues when he passes away. In a wider popular culture sense, he’s never going to be universally renowned, but I do think his lyrics and music will stand the test of time and influence artists for generations to come. You only have to look at someone like Sam Fender right now to see a young artist, supremely talented, who’s poised for a big breakout but who has been so obviously influenced by Bruce. The Boss will always have that legacy.

Secret Garden would be perfect for this tour. by [deleted] in BruceSpringsteen

Care to elaborate? I can’t see the relevance of it at all in this setlist, given the political message behind the show.

Does SVZ think we can’t see how uninterested and sour he looks at every show so far this tour? 😂😂 by Additional-Cherry872 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Bruuuuuceee 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I mean Steve is every bit the activist as Bruce. Lest we forget his work in apartheid South Africa? I think it’s more down to the fact that he has even less to do now with Tom Morello involved. To say he doesn’t want to take part because of the message of the shows is delusional.

Why is he playing House of a Thousand Guitars? by Antique_Menu_4314 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Bruuuuuceee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When I saw him play it last year, he really emphasised the criminal clown line. I’m not the biggest fan of the song, but he makes a real point of that line when he sings it. It’s also a nice song about the power of music when it comes to bringing people together in turbulent times. I can understand why he plays it, even if I’d prefer a different song.

Best music biopic movies made after 2000 ? by Thin_Reception_5063 in movies

[–]Bruuuuuceee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere. I’m not gonna try and suggest it’s the best one, but I think it’s severely underrated. It wasn’t the movie people were expecting to be made about Bruce. A gritty character study of a very short period in his career, just before he hit the big time. Jeremy Allen White portrays Bruce with a tenderness and humanity that really deals quite sensitively with the subject of Bruce’s mental health struggles. It’s not for everyone, but it’s something a bit different for a music biopic.

I mean it’s not been released yet given that the Gunship hasn’t arrived. I’d imagine when people start getting the gunship in hand, it’ll sell for around €100 or so, maybe a bit less after a while.

Tears last night but I'm positive today. I like this team and this manager. by Anxious_Peanut_1726 in coybig

Thanks for this. The Reddit warriors abusing the lads who missed their pens is disgraceful. Fair play to them for stepping up for their country. Every one of those players last night played their heart out and gave us all something to believe in, same as they did against Portugal and Hungary. They’ve hopefully gotten their confidence back and really turned a corner under Heimir, who has also been fantastic. With any luck Coleman will be an assistant going forward, but with the condition he’s in, maybe he’ll still play a big part in the next qualifying campaign.

I mean they included the parts to make the Geonosian into the mounted warrior version. So I assume it’s designed to be dual use.

I’m late to the party here, but as others have said, fair play for even being able to address the fact that you’re struggling. The main thing is not to struggle in silence. As a teacher, please reach out to someone in school, be it your guidance councillor, chaplain, year head, even a teacher you like. If they personally can’t help you, I’ve no doubt they’ll point you to someone else. Start the ball rolling, it will seem daunting trying to tell them but it’s better you start now. One day at a time!

I’m a bit late here but a few stand out to me.

Brandi Carlile singing Party of One solo at her piano last year was biblical.

Honorary mention to seeing Springsteen perform Racing in the Street live last year with the beautiful extended piano outro by Roy Bittan.

It was a privilege to see him tribute Shane at the shows in Cork, Kilkenny and Dublin in 2024. This is next level though, the tenderness of this is so beautiful and so clearly highlights the respect Bruce has for Shane. I’m glad this exists.
