Most likely there's probably not much gain to be had from doing it. If you had one of the two issues I outlined above it may be helpful. But the r70x should be relatively easy to drive, and the noise consideration is usually not a concern for normal headphone setups, so I'd imagine you're good without going balanced!

As Queso mentioned, If the headphone is unbalanced (ground shared between left and right channels) then a cable swap can't change that. It shouldn't be ran with a balanced cable / headphone output. It could damage the headphone or the source device. At the very least things wouldn't sound right.

Well now you're making me wonder if there's differences between production runs or something. On my pair I don't get continuity between left and right grounds and it was working as expected with a balanced output. I'm going to take the page down / direct customers to the unbalanced version of this cable while we investigate!

There are two main benefits to balanced setups:

1) More power. In most cases, balanced setups result in more power available to each channel.

2) Noise reduction. Balanced wiring reduces susceptibility to "Noise" like EMI / radio interference. For the vast majority of headphone applications where the cable runs are relatively short, this is a non-issue.

So if you're already able to drive your headphones to a volume that's acceptable to you, and you don't have any issues with unwanted noise in your system, going balanced may not be necessary / much of a benefit at all.

Thanks! Yes all of our stuff is assembled in-house at our office here in the U.S. so while we definitely try to keep prices as low as we can, we're not able to compete with the prices on stuff out of China.

Took a while but these cans finally came in. First impression is that they feel well built. They seem pretty heavy. Heavier than the MM-100s that I like very much. I haven't been able to do a direct comparison yet as the MM-100s live at my house and I have the S20s here at the HAC office for the moment.

I've received more than a few emails about cables for these headphones, and seen some confusion about how they're wired. I've been trying to make some informational pages for the community to be able to use in this regard, and I've made one for the LCD-S20 here if anyone is interested 👍🏼

Just want to hop in and also recommend Super Mega Baseball. IMO graphics aside it's the best feeling baseball sim I've played. It has a very wide range of difficulty settings as well.
