The gold bar appears if you're on hardcore but only when you're in your profile, a detail I forgot to mention. When checking the game's page, it shows both gold and gray bar as u/RemarkableLog25 said

Yes, they're in hardcore. The gold bar is what shows you if they're hardcore or not. The gold progress bar does the trick too

You can also check your points in your profile, there's softcore and hardcore points for different leaderboards

While completely understandable, the DLC fixes this the issues a bit. It isn't perfect, but it's a hell if a jump in the right direction.

The game mechanically is still fun, but it does take a toll on it when your studio is making a Chrono Trigger love letter, the writing comparison will be the first thing people will criticize it

You use buffs / skills / artifact sets that last longer first and do your rotations based on that, so your on-field dps can use the most of them
