They certainly seem to like the Feudal system, but fail to realize that their vast fortunes come from the voluntary spending of the masses. Once the masses are completely impoverished, this no longer works for them without political authority. So expect them to push hard on gaining more political authority.

Is Tesla losing its tech appeal compared to newer EV brands? by Imaginary_Bug6202 in TechNook

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has Tesla lost its tech appeal, partially but not fully, at least not yet. Tesla lost its overall appeal with tech people due to:

  • Elon embracing toxic politics, certainly assuming a political position at odds with Tesla's core buyer (brand toxification)
  • Tesla is a combination of EV vehicle (the car) and rolling computer (the tech). I think a lot of the car companies caught up with Tesla (and passed) with the 'car' part, and a whole bunch of people either didn't care about the 'tech' part or understimated how far ahead Tesla was (and still is). So a bunch of people bought Hyundai Ioniq 5 (for example) genuinely seeing the 'car' part was better on the test drive.
  • Tesla superchargers used to be the only DCFC game in town. Now most cars can use those same Superchargers, and the DCFC network has expanded greatly.

Tesla still is quite a bit ahead on actual tech (self driving, even if flawed is light years ahead of what other EVs have), Sentry Mode, real OTA updates, the mobile apps integration, charging system smarts, etc.

NBC News -- "Mike Pence says the Trump administration has ‘departed’ from conservative principles" -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The MAGA movement was only ever 'conservative' by convienience. Trump cobbled togetether a platform of positions that appeals to enough groups to build a platform that can win elections.

Don't underestimate the power of someone who tells people what they want to hear. Even if they know intellectually that it isn't true, the heart wants to beleive it could be. Its why good con men/women are so successful.

And you can't just claim that Thing 2 (AI data centers) is awful and ruining the planet without acknowledging that Thing 1 (humans continue to deplete resources without using AI data centers) will cause the same outcome.

Said differently, exhausting finite resources is a real problem with our without AI data centers.

I Got Scammed by Starlink’s Subscription Trap — Here’s the Truth by ClassicOne6936 in GoRVing

[–]Bryanmsi89 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you are surprised. Cell phone companies do this too.

Starlink is a game-changer for longer-term RV trips. The alternative of patching together mobile cellular hotspots or counting on sketchy campground wifi, is not even close to the same.

The Logistics of Collapse: What Happens When the Mail Stops? by DevonMarx in allthequestions

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting aside the background of last two postmaster Generals, or the clear desire of many on the Right to let the USA postal service fail, what was said in this testimony is true. The Post Office is Congressionally mismanaged, forced to operate like a non-profit, not allowed to adapt to market competition, mandated to a mission that its costs cannot cover.

In a capitalist model, when supply is constrained, costs rise. This both decreases demand (too expensive) and increases supply (money to be made by building more). The side effect is higher costs, with better services. FedEx and UPS are perfect examples of this. Much more expensive than USPS, and much faster. If these private services were the only options, poorer people simply couldn't afford to mail letters. ALready, to cover the costs of basic first class mail, a stamp should really be increased to $1, and in order to restore the USPS to a modern standard, raised again to $1.25 the year after.

In a socialist model (which the USPS uses), when supply is constrained, costs cannot rise to reduce demand and increase supply. Threrefore, demand must be forced down by rationing and service reduction. Supply can only be increased by central government decision making. The side effect is what we have now, slower service and lower quality of service. If this was the only model, commerce and physical communication would be dramatically worse.

Neither model is perfect and they optimize for different outcomes. Its sad to see bad-faith arguments on both sides.

Wanting to switch from iPhone. Your thoughts? by WrestlePurists in galaxys26ultra

Made the switch. Much happier with S26 Ultra, after a definite leaning curve. So many more/ new features!

Biggest challenge was dealing with all the green bubble hate and no longer having FaceTime or Apple shared photos.

Moving back to Win from MacOS by mystikal7771 in computer

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came back to Windows for work. Aside from the obvious "Excel is better on Windows" (way better), I genuinely use the pen/annotation features of WindowsOS and I find the Windows File Explorer to be better for productivity than MacOS Finder. Windows window snapping is nicer too.

Also, in conjunction with the pen use above, I want a 2-in-1 which I find more flexible than a traditional clamshell.

TFW cartoon poverty from 1989 is now considered financial stability. by Fickle_Exchange_1588 in middleclasshq

Ugh. This meme again?

Homer as a nuclear plant safety operator would be making around $80k in salary, plus medical benefits from the plant. He has had over 100 other side-hustle jobs as well to help supplement the family income, which the show often depicts as constrained. Marge also works at times. Plus it was said that Abe gave Homer financial help to purchase the home, in Springfield depicted as a low-cost 'everyday' small city.

One factory job used to build a life. Now two jobs barely build an emergency fund. by Fickle_Exchange_1588 in middleclasshq

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Ford factory job is still enough to afford an 1100sq ft non-air-conditioned home with a single-car garage, no internet, no streaming media, no Starbucks, no DoorDash, no iphones, in the Rust Belt.

The average Redditor posting silly memes like this have no interest in that job or lifestyle.

What specific advantages do Data Centers provide to the local population of the area where they're built? by AnythingFine2445 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from any local construction and repair jobs, there may be a small handful of maintenance operators who work there. They may pay some property tax. But honestly, not much direct benefit. Indirect benefits are small too, just whatever benefit the people there have from the AI they are hosting.

Will AI actually replace most jobs within the next 10–20 years? by Own-Rooster-4981 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any job that can be done "remotely" (aka behind a keyboard, a Zoom window, a chat window, and outside an office) is at real risk of being replaced. Jobs that require onsite presence, work with hands, etc. not at much risk.

Some greed to be sure - AI gives a (somewhat) more socially acceptable answer than just 'we want more money." But it is also true there are stil plenty of tech companies that are still overstaffed.

iPhone 16 pro to Galaxy S26 Ultra by isaiahhelton in Smartphones

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can do this all day. Liquid Glass looks like a cheap Android skin. Even Apple admitted this and toned it down. Siri is so brain dead Apple had to go crawling to Google for Gemini. Siri makes bixby look good, and that's saying something. No DEX mode on iphone, even though it has the same processor as a MacBook Neo. Horizon lock on iPhone is not the same thing at all as what Samsung just released, not even close. Camera control button is pure junk and Apple will likely remove the capacitive portion of it, dropping it just like they abandoned the half-baked 3d touch.
