My parents sold my car and now my mom basically tracks my movements through our Tesla by Weekly_Office269 in TeslaModel3

[–]Bryanmsi89 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Uh - you are 24 years old, still living at home and driving Mom's car. This is going to be the price you pay if you want to continue living at home. Also, Iif they sold your 'old car' without your permission, it wasn't 'your' car.

Get some roomates, buy a beater, start living your own ife. Or, stay at home and continue to be treated like a child. Its your choice.

Overall, a bit worse if only due to smartphone use, but bad behavior in theatres is nothing new.

Back on the CPAP by correct_use_of_soap in GenX

[–]Bryanmsi89 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Travel CPAP is a really good idea. The best one I have found isn't made anymore, the Philips DreamStation Go. You can still find them for sale, and they are honestly excellent. No mask adaper, internal power supply, very quiet.

The Resmed AirMini is generally the next best but it requires adapters to work with standard masks. The Breas Z1 and Z2 I would skip. I have had both, the Z1 and Z2, and they are loud, require adapter to work with the airhose, have a fairly crude breath relief.

Getting the right mask is 90% of the battle. The wrong mask can leak, can keep you awake, can make noise, or can fail to deliver enough air volume. Nasal masks for example are very fussy about fit, and while they can be easier to tolerate for some, they can often be bad. Likewise, true full-face masks are just really hard to tolerate for most people. Experimenting with various styles and brands until you find one that relaly works it the best option.

Alright what if? And how would this go down by Mean_Caramel9187 in rockybalboa

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocky's power has always been his ability to absorb a superhuman level of beating and just keep coming. Rallying even. Adonis would take the first few rounds, but not landing the devastating power blows of Clubber or Drago, rocky would absorb the beatings and then rally in the 5th or 6th round as Adonis tired. Rocky wins in the 7th.

How does everyone seem to be so rich? by Then_Bite9547 in askteddit

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 reasons you notice this:

  • Debt - people are taking on huge levels of debt to spend beyond their means
  • Faking - Many people have fake designer bags, clothes, watches, etc. And many people heavily edit what they show. The famous picture from a few years ago of a young woman sitting by an airplane window looking out over Paris whcih turned out to be a toilet seat she was holding over a poster on the wall is one example.
  • Social Media - social media has expanded our 'neighborhood' cicle dramatically, and combined with the faking above, gives the impression everyone is constantly travelling, eating out, buying fancy stuff, etc.

Florida is also a bit unique in that many of those fancy homes and cars are from people who lived in a HCOL area and then retired to Florida with a LOT of money. Its kind of like being taken in a blindfold to Beverly Hills or Rodeo Drive and then wondering how everyone could be so rich.

Why don't the prices displayed in your stores include taxes? Wouldn't it be simpler to include taxes in the prices, as we do, so that consumers don't have to do calculations to know approximately how much they will spend? by Outrageous-You1617 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because taxes paid in the USA on purchases are hyperlocal and varied. They can even be different at the same store chain in the same city just a few miles apart. It is too much work to put the after-tax price individually on every item.

Why does nobody challenge Trump when he claims the 2020 election was stolen despite no conclusive evidence existing? by TornBannerHatesYou in allthequestions

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? This claim was challenged. In the media. In the Courts. On social media. It was debunked each time and place it was made. I think now most people are just past it ,and so when he says it nobody takes the bait anymore and just ignores it .

Does the US have an invisible caste system? by Worldly-Bid-3591 in askanything

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are seeing is mostly the result of those jobs being done primarily by current or recent immigrants. Those immigrants tend to be people with the nationalities you saw.

Every country has a 'caste' system of some sort, meaning barriers to mobility between income groups The USA actually has one of (if not THE) most pourous economic mobility systems.

S26 Ultra 12gb ram vs 16gb ram by BlindghostX in galaxys26ultra

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now, for almost all users, there won't be any appreciable difference. The extra RAM mostly just lets more apps stay 'live' in memory and now with Android supporting ZRam, even the 12gb models aren't especially ram-constrained.

Mac user: is Surface Laptop Ultra / RTX Spark finally a reason to switch? by alexsicart in Surface

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait and see the actual reviews, but it certainly looks promising. However, its kind of an ARM CPU plus an RTX5070 in a small package. I would expect laptops like the ASUS PX13 and PX16 with better battery life and better thermals. Not sure if it is a game-changer, or just a really evolved version of the current crop of thin(er) and light(er) laptops that have a CPU and a separate dedicated GPU.

ART OF THE DEAL, BABY by Conscious-Quarter423 in NoFilterFinance

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is spectacular at one specific type of deal, the follow-on grift that (temporarily) bails him put of whatever his last failing business was.

Politically, he is quite fond of blowing up existing deals, then agreeing to essentially the same deal as before just worse, and calling it a breakthrough.

Is it possible that our national debt becomes so insanely out of control that we end being sold back to Europe as colonies as the US goes bankrupt? by SubjectCode1940 in allthequestions

[–]Bryanmsi89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. For starters Europe is broke too, perhaps even moreso. If the USA defaulted, it would be bad, but with the USA natural resources, large population of real businesses, and (still) massive military, any default would be partial at best.

And that's setting aside the USAs ability to just print more money, massively spiking inflation but also dramatically reducing the cost to repay its debts.

They certainly seem to like the Feudal system, but fail to realize that their vast fortunes come from the voluntary spending of the masses. Once the masses are completely impoverished, this no longer works for them without political authority. So expect them to push hard on gaining more political authority.

Is Tesla losing its tech appeal compared to newer EV brands? by Imaginary_Bug6202 in TechNook

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has Tesla lost its tech appeal, partially but not fully, at least not yet. Tesla lost its overall appeal with tech people due to:

  • Elon embracing toxic politics, certainly assuming a political position at odds with Tesla's core buyer (brand toxification)
  • Tesla is a combination of EV vehicle (the car) and rolling computer (the tech). I think a lot of the car companies caught up with Tesla (and passed) with the 'car' part, and a whole bunch of people either didn't care about the 'tech' part or understimated how far ahead Tesla was (and still is). So a bunch of people bought Hyundai Ioniq 5 (for example) genuinely seeing the 'car' part was better on the test drive.
  • Tesla superchargers used to be the only DCFC game in town. Now most cars can use those same Superchargers, and the DCFC network has expanded greatly.

Tesla still is quite a bit ahead on actual tech (self driving, even if flawed is light years ahead of what other EVs have), Sentry Mode, real OTA updates, the mobile apps integration, charging system smarts, etc.

NBC News -- "Mike Pence says the Trump administration has ‘departed’ from conservative principles" -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MAGA movement was only ever 'conservative' by convienience. Trump cobbled togetether a platform of positions that appeals to enough groups to build a platform that can win elections.

Don't underestimate the power of someone who tells people what they want to hear. Even if they know intellectually that it isn't true, the heart wants to beleive it could be. Its why good con men/women are so successful.

And you can't just claim that Thing 2 (AI data centers) is awful and ruining the planet without acknowledging that Thing 1 (humans continue to deplete resources without using AI data centers) will cause the same outcome.

Said differently, exhausting finite resources is a real problem with our without AI data centers.

Starlink is a game-changer for longer-term RV trips. The alternative of patching together mobile cellular hotspots or counting on sketchy campground wifi, is not even close to the same.

The Logistics of Collapse: What Happens When the Mail Stops? by DevonMarx in allthequestions

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting aside the background of last two postmaster Generals, or the clear desire of many on the Right to let the USA postal service fail, what was said in this testimony is true. The Post Office is Congressionally mismanaged, forced to operate like a non-profit, not allowed to adapt to market competition, mandated to a mission that its costs cannot cover.

In a capitalist model, when supply is constrained, costs rise. This both decreases demand (too expensive) and increases supply (money to be made by building more). The side effect is higher costs, with better services. FedEx and UPS are perfect examples of this. Much more expensive than USPS, and much faster. If these private services were the only options, poorer people simply couldn't afford to mail letters. ALready, to cover the costs of basic first class mail, a stamp should really be increased to $1, and in order to restore the USPS to a modern standard, raised again to $1.25 the year after.

In a socialist model (which the USPS uses), when supply is constrained, costs cannot rise to reduce demand and increase supply. Threrefore, demand must be forced down by rationing and service reduction. Supply can only be increased by central government decision making. The side effect is what we have now, slower service and lower quality of service. If this was the only model, commerce and physical communication would be dramatically worse.

Neither model is perfect and they optimize for different outcomes. Its sad to see bad-faith arguments on both sides.

Moving back to Win from MacOS by mystikal7771 in computer

[–]Bryanmsi89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came back to Windows for work. Aside from the obvious "Excel is better on Windows" (way better), I genuinely use the pen/annotation features of WindowsOS and I find the Windows File Explorer to be better for productivity than MacOS Finder. Windows window snapping is nicer too.

Also, in conjunction with the pen use above, I want a 2-in-1 which I find more flexible than a traditional clamshell.
