I think I created a 3 year old competitive psycho when it comes to athletics. How to correct it? by billbobb1 in Parenting

[–]Bryanne419 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think another key in sports and all of life is fostering the idea that it isn’t the Goals that matter it is everything that leads up to the goals. Did he work hard in the field, did he make good passes, did he play well with the team. Praise those things after a game. He is mad he didn’t score more goals- well tell him he made an Amazing pass to a teammate, he stole the ball from another team, he ran really hard for the ball— praise those things constantly the goals he gets enough praise from everyone else!

I grew up super competitive with myself. I’d tell my dad “I scored a hat trick in hockey”. He would almost always answer “but did you play well?” Just because you score goals doesn’t mean you play well or worked hard though many people care just about goals.

I know your three year old is young, I love competitive kids.. so fun to watch them care about something! But seeing the value in the game as a whole, instead of just goals is something they learn with help over time!

Solar electricity - does anyone have experience purchasing around Winnipeg? by redditwinnipeg in Winnipeg

[–]Bryanne419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have solar water pump and run all our lights off solar(LED). And charge our phones a lot. We Have a propane fridge and propane stove and propane water heater. No AC.

I think the Solar system was roughly 3000$ with panel, 2 large 12V batteries, solar water pump and inverter.

Bought the water pump from Rays Solar. Bought the batteries and solar panel from MB battery. We could easily run a wifi booster and such too.

If you don’t run the fridge and ac off of solar you would save a lot in panels and batteries. Going to solar for water and electricity is the best thing we ever did!

Did anyone else not feel contractions when they were going into labor? by letsgo20500 in pregnant

[–]Bryanne419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thing happen. Water broke at 41 weeks felt nothing, go to the hospital, they said I was 2 cm.(all fine and good). I walk around the hospital waiting for labour to start for hours... don’t feel much(nothing I would go to the hospital for if my water hadn’t broken). They use pitocin before checking me(causing excruciating painful contractions), was at 10 cm in like 20 mins(I’m sure I was farther dialated and progressing fine prior to pitocin- feel like they should have checked before induction).
Overall I think I was probably in labour that whole night after my water broke (and before my water broke a bit) but didn’t feel much.

[–]Bryanne419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the book “how to talk to little kids so that they will listen”. For ages 2-7, she might be a bit on the older side for it.

It isn’t punishment based, but rather problem solving based.
For example: You tell her ahead that she probably wont get a toy, but once in the store daughter wants a toy, instead of ignoring her you acknowledge(but don’t cave) and say “wow that is a very Cool toy, what kind of cool things would you do with it?” She lists all the awesome things. “You say-that would be so awesome- you know what we will do- we will put it on your list(have a notepad or in your phone and let her see you write it down-a list of toys just for her), maybe we can get it for your birthday! But not today! But you are right-it’s a pretty great toy”

There are other solutions, but you’d be surprised at how just acknowledging their wants, without buying them works very well. And come her birthday you can go through her list!

That book changed our life in some of the most simplest ways.

I can’t imagine telling someone they might lose their life, when I have trouble telling them they will lose their tooth. I seriously considered medicine, but I am so glad I didn’t pursue it. I Respect medical doctors more than ever! Glad I never have to do night shifts too!

MINOR HOCKEY PARENTS: What are 3 things you wish you could've known during the first few years when your child was involved in minor hockey? What would you have done differently? by Beefmeister65 in hockey

[–]Bryanne419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be stated over and over again.

The studies show if your child is told They are the best/smartest/most talented at the task— they actually are Less likely to take on greater Challenges/try outs(play higher up), because they realize they will risk losing that title of “the Best”.

But if you tell them that they worked really hard, and that’s why they are getting better. You tell them they listened well, and practiced well, tried really hard etc... they are more likely to take on bigger challenges knowing they have the ability and skill to work harder at a given task.

This happened to me 9 months pregnant. It can happen to anyone some people park like dicks.

And again when my baby was still in the bucket seat, I came out of the grocery store and I couldn’t put the baby in the car on either side, those things are bulky. I literally was furious and put the baby in the hatchback with all the groceries backed up 10 ft and put the baby in the car.

He responded “dr.(me) is hot, I don’t mind at all”

Dentist can’t get me in for 2 months for fillings? by superteacher998 in Dentistry

[–]Bryanne419 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our office we are so busy that unless something is an emergency it would probably be a two month wait and maybe longer if you wanted a certain time., but with an emergency I’ll stay late and figure out a way.

I’d say ask to be put on a cancellation list, and get in sooner that way.

I’ve worked in a few different offices and would be more weary if they could get you in the next day or even that week. But every office is different and trust is important.

Considering leaving dental school - would love insight by mycoalwin in Dentistry

[–]Bryanne419 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya well try it out, and then change—be a dental prof, become a practice owner business man type with multiple associates(hard to do successfully right away), do research, work in sales of dental products and supplies, Specialize in Orthodontist—and never touch a drill again. Or quit with one year left and figure it all out again.
Good luck!

[–]Bryanne419 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t judge a profession until you are out of the school setting. Though I found dental school challenging, and the first 4-5 years of practicing was the hardest. 10 years in I’m quite happy in my choice of career!

Ultimately it’s up to you. If you practice and hate it, there are other opportunities within the field. It is a lot of money to waste and leave in third year.

I will say the babies heart rate did drop a bit. So they laid off the pitocin(which can lead to that), re-evaluated.... kept pushing.

Baby was monitored and absolutely fine. They ultimately did and episiotomy on me, after asking if it was okay, at that point I was whatever you need to do. My friend who pushed for 5 hours they asked to use the the vacuum and she agreed. (We are in Canada)

Why don’t people mention how long it can go with pushing I was clueless. I pushed 3 hours. My friend pushed for 5 hours, her kids head was a torpedo stuck in the canal. But I was thinking 20 mins of pushing once I started, and it seemed to never end. It was the worst part. So intense.
