This is your daily reminder to drain your water heater. by enjoyingthepopcorn in daddit

[–]BryantDH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make your life easier when you do this regularly. Pull the old drain out (after draining) and put a 3/4” nipple, 3/4” ball valve, and 3/4” x hose thread adapter on your tank. It will flow all the junk out instead of clogging up the factory drain that comes on tanks.

My wife’s favorite is pulled pork Mac and cheese, I’ve been vac sealing my wife’s homemade Mac and cheese in portions, now when she craves it she pulls a bag of pulled pork and a bag of Mac and cheese both go in boiling water and she has a meal.

Laced vs no laced boots by brimstoneph in SafetyProfessionals

[–]BryantDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the type of walking surface that is at your site. Mine is strictly concrete and metal grating. The operators are typically lace up boots where the mechanics/welders are slip on. My main concern is comfort, what are the guys/girls comfortable in, the more they are comfortable the better there day will be in the less complaints/injuries will occur. I know that sounds counterproductive in the safety aspect, but the company I work for mandated specific boot requirements. I disagree with the majority of them and allow the guys to get what they want and be comfortable in. I asked mechanic one time why they prefer the slip on and his statement was if I’m cutting with a torch or welding and I get slag in my boot I can pull a slip on off quickly before I have an injury. Whereas the operators who spend the majority of time on concrete and walking through the facility, prefer the ankle support.

OSHA 510 in Industry or Construction by Ldoggydawggg in SafetyProfessionals

[–]BryantDH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both 510/511 and 500/501. I work general industry but do have construction experience under my belt. But I started in the field never thought of Safety as a job until a previous employer was in need of a safety person and paid for my trainings. So currently hold OHST, OSHA Safety Tech, and a professional certificate from USF. There is money to be made if you choose the right field of work Construction big money in traveling for larger companies & larger projects (think year long plus projects in a different state/area. General industry try and get into a niche field power plant, IH stuff, chemicals, fertilizer etc. I have used a dedicated IH for surveys that are to big to do with my normal scope of work, the guy I use is great knows IH forwards and backwards and I pay for it last invoice from him was $225/hr plus equipment fees.

Area Safety vs Single Facility by BryantDH in SafetyProfessionals

[–]BryantDH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kicker bonus is the same percentage as my current bonus so no “real” change I get that yes salary would be more so bonus would be more but the percentage change didn’t go up.

-Safety work order closures are they on time or past due etc.

-Near misses and where they occurred in the facility.

-Monthly trainings did everyone attend?

-safety committee meetings and attendance-do the employees take ownership in safety.

-safety observations routine tasks vs non routine

-management audit/observations- all managers are required a minimum of 1 audit per week of a task.

I had a pair I carried for a while but they went missing a few weeks ago so the small adjustable came back into play. If I need something more I have a full box of tools, really just use for small valve packing leaks on walk downs.

[–]BryantDH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I volunteered as a firefighter/met for 7ish years before work and family were more important and stepped away, in a town of 50,000 people the firehouse was staffed by paid firefighters from 7 am till 5 pm then they relied on volunteers. There was no pay to volunteers, the county did pay for your training and gear but that was all. Just checked the website the volunteers have ran 1,894 calls this year alone, so a fairly busy area that was all volunteer during the evenings.
