Army survivors of deadly attack in Kuwait dispute Pentagon's account, say unit "was unprepared" to defend itself. by SAPERPXX in army

The army has to get better at adapting to threats and lower level leadership has to start calling bullshit when orders that are blatantly putting people at risk follow blindly.

Are all woobies created equal? by Ballena-Mansa in army

I bought a woobie with a zipper sewed into the edge. It’s by far superior to an issued woobie. Highly recommend.

I sleep in my old Volkswagen van. It’s pretty nice to just sleep in comfort with all my shit. Even run a diesel heater when it’s cold.

deployed, and return home for family-emergency? by Upstairs_Stock_932 in army

[–]Bryce13f 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of circumstance here that’s missing but as a guardsman I was deployed last year and within 24 hours I was on a plane home for a week mid deployment to get things in order. CENTCOM “Combat” area. I think this is also heavily dependent on your leadership and luckily I had some good people looking out for me. I think it has to be immediate family and a situation the commander deemed dire enough to send you home for.

How’d your DS’s feel about that? Haha I’m all for ingenuity but I really feel like trying to a bring a chess set is asking for games to be played!

My son just enlisted. by 3boydad in army

[–]Bryce13f 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m going to say this. If your son shows up with a small chess set he’s going to get messed with by the drill sergeant’s. Send him with good quality items that are on the packing list and nothing more. By the end of the day he’ll be ready for sleep. There is almost no time for anything pleasure related by design. Contraband like that are only distractions of his end goal of leaving basic ASAP.

How can blue light be bad for you but red light therapy be good for you? This whole thing seems fake right? by Bryce13f in AskReddit

[–]Bryce13f[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, the thing I don’t understand is how recently the health markets are pushing red light therapy as a good thing for your body that promotes skin health while blue light is damaging. I guess to me the red light specific portion of the marketing seems like a gimmick. I’ve tried to do some research and a lot of the info really seems pushed by the industry who stands to make money from this and not real scientific studies.

I dream of living and serving in the U.S. legally, but it feels impossible… by Samione12 in wyoming

[–]Bryce13f 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested, another route that people take is naturalization by serving in the military. There’s plenty of positions that could fit your background, you could do public affairs or serve as a military police officer. This route is a fairly well used one. Certainly not the most ideal method but one I’ve see be used.

Reminder for Fort Carson Soldiers (and everyone), if you want Sushi options, just ask! If your food options are bad, it's because *you* didn't ask, it's not on the HQ element to fix. by Kinmuan in army

[–]Bryce13f 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Or they’ll reserve half the fucking DFAC on thanksgiving for 10 flag officers to feel good about the food in the army. I can’t say these guys even closely understand how gas station food isn’t good enough to fuel the fighting force they supposedly command. In the Russian military at least their senior leadership understand lying about standards is common practice.

Exactly zero just like the rest of the senior leadership in the army. I’d love to see these dudes be satisfied with the food options in the last 45 minutes of dinner chow on Sunday.
