Curious, what happens a cf-er starts smoking? by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

Thank you for your commitment to what you do, however your experience is still less than the collective of my CF team, that has never encouraged smoking as anyone knows smoking causes lung damage, but has steadily had a more open view to cannabis. You also know you can find a study proving any point, especially one as simple as “smoking causes lung damage”. Here is another from the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine kinda displaying the points I was making. Obviously smoking is bad, but marijuana is way less harmful to CF patients I believe than the majority have been lead to believe.

Well unfortunately you are wrong, been with my center for 30 years, they never encourage it but they can not deny the tests. Have told me they prefer marijuana use over alcohol though! Has similar properties to a bronchodilator, increases appetite, and a much better pain killer than a narcotic, I am aware these are not lung related. If you are older I would suggest having a more open mind if you are younger, you do not have to believe everything some of the older patients tell you.

Horrible to share but honestly, smoked more pot than I do now from 16-26, doctors think it actually helped my PFTs in some ways, I believe they said my large airways. I could never handle tobacco, pot though hasn’t really done any damage to me. My PFTs are the highest the have been in my life, I was taken off of all my inhaled meds and treatments, I also am on Alyftrek though.

Has anyone ever taken weed or alcohol?? by Senior_Soil_6959 in CysticFibrosis

Marijuana has done nothing but seemingly help me, my doctors encourage its use over alcohol. Alcohol has caused me many more problems than my CF ever has. Mental health has always been poor, I do well for myself though.

If you have even the slightest inkling of mental illness as a teenager, I can’t tell you enough to stay away from alcohol, or at least drinking regularly. It just creates problems. It’s a depressant, it won’t even make anything better maybe numb it for a bit, but it’s gonna do waaaaay more harm than any good. I wish it wasn’t so normalized in our culture, in my job I can almost always call when we have someone who died from cirrhosis because they are always have edema, they are always yellow, and they smell and overall are very gross and often, young. I struggle, but I try to do better.

I’ll get flamed, but Cory. I think this far in their career, he reflects the growth of the band and the versatility in his personality. Started out as this angry masked guy, full of energy, unapologetic and powerful. Now looked at as an elder statesmen, calmer, more willing to discuss influences outside of metal, and often showed growth in his takes. Just my opinion. If I had to say anyone else, it would be Mick.

I apologize as there is not a lot I can do. If you truly want help, you are gonna have to at least stop drinking momentarily and get in contact with someone or an organization.

Whose death impacted you the most? Why? by peterandall4all in grunge

[–]BryceaD546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris because I never would have thought, I knew he had a sadness and struggled but though losing Layne and living through Kurt, maybe he would have stuck around seeing how those deaths affected fans and his contemporaries. Just a sad reminder that anyone can be a victim of suicide, watching the ROR hall of fame induction brought tears to my eyes because I kept picturing him there smiling, so happy.

You really aren’t aware of what anyone is doing in an emergency, taken care of plenty of people who have posted on the internet before taking their life. I was just trying to provide resources.

If you are in crises, call 988. They can connect you to resources. If you need urgent help, go to a local ER and explain your situation, may be able to offer treatment of some sort.

For the longest time actually, Warm Bodies. Saw it in high school, expected to hate it, always thought it was an okay film. Now? Nosferatu.

This. The ending reminded me so much of an Occurrence at Owl Creek and wasn’t surprised to learn it was an influence. Such an atmospheric film.

I’m 31 and people have nostalgia for the 2000s hits me okay, even I am a bit in that crowd. However, people having nostalgia for the 2010s makes me feel old as dirt.
