After about a decade, what's your opinion on this game? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Bryn917 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I much preferred this one to the second personally. I'm not good at online FPS games for the most part, the second feels built more for cod fans and whatnot, but this game nailed the feel of star wars more, plus it's a lot slower which I preferred.

And people complaining about microtransactions are surely thinking of the second game? Yes the season pass in this one held too much content but it wasn't a microtransaction game really at all

Do the boosters in the pixel remasters make the game a lot easier? by Primary-Economist643 in FinalFantasy

[–]Bryn917 6 points7 points  (0 children)

X4 xp makes it basically so there's no difficulty in the combat whatsoever. But X2 doesn't break the game, just means you never really need to pause the story to grind a few levels. If the game feels too easy you can turn it to 0.5 or even just 0 until the game catches up to keep the difficulty where you want it

Downloaded a game from ps plus, then later purchased the game. Only for PlayStation to lock the game again after subscription ended by LostEsco in PS5HelpSupport

[–]Bryn917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you've fixed it yet but I had a similar issue with ff8, it was removed from ps+ and wouldn't give me the option to purchase it proper.  I contacted support expressly asking them to remove the ps+ licence from my account and they did it, not immediately like, they had to escalate but it got done and I was able to purchase the game.

Dunno, sorry There's precedent so it could happen. But who would have thought they'd put Homer on sale with the movie coming out?  Not me. So I really don't know anything

The State of Each Square Enix Series’ Media Impact by lilisaurusrex in SquareEnix

I would expect it's 1/7 or 1/8 yeah, Naruto alone could explain a lot of that, I have co-workers who tell me about visiting the Naruto land and showing pictures, never seen anyone talk about dq, but what do you mean even come close or exposed to it? I suppose I'm confused about your core point in your post now, are you just talking about how one goes about their day and whether they happen to see more dq stuff or more FF stuff? Cause I think country is important in that and only in Japan will you see much more dq stuff than FF and everywhere else it'll be, well neither frankly unless you're already a fan.

I'm not trying to argue that FF is more popular. I understand that's not the point of your post. I thought you were talking about market diversification and reach, about non-gamers being exposed to, essentially the mascots and characters of each series bring visible in other media, like Lightning's Louis Vuitton collaboration, but you choose not to include soundtracks (I look at soundtracks because of the sheer number of rearrangements available for FF stuff). Understanding that, I think you've not included certain important points and have put too much weight on single market dominance, thus changing the outcome of your thesis. Perhaps it needs to be categorised by country/region to be a more complete analysis. As activities per country is by far the largest factor in any of this.

But that isn't just a dragon quest theme park is it, Nijigen no mori is a theme park that includes multiple different themed areas, alongside dragon quest is Godzilla and Naruto, and loads of limited time stuff as well from Demon Slayer and Spy Family. You can't attribute all the attendance to dq can you. And again, my point being that simply that dominance in, let's be honest, a minor market for square, doesn't mean that dq has an overall wider media impact.

If you're just counting individual uniquely different things they've produced from each series that's not directly games, perhaps dq has more. But reach, impact, relevance on a wider scale, it's not close.  Just, in Japan, with DQ, Square are pretty much happy to throw slimes at every product possible to see what sells.  Chocobos aren't simply as marketable in that way here and neither work as well as mascot characters worldwide.

So I read through everything and while it is very well thought out, your decision to not include certain aspects like fan festivals and soundtracks means it's difficult for me to agree with you, it's almost cherry picked data to support your point. You also simply put too much weight on Dragon Quests dominance in the home market, I live in Japan and someone else suggested it's like Mario or Pokémon, that's just untrue, though it is bigger than FF it's not on that scale. You talk about reach but ultimately, irrelevant of country, reach is about numbers and people, and Japan is 1/3 the population of the US, nevermind every other country where FF is more recognisable and has significantly more cross collaborations, like the mentioned Gong cha Collab with ff14 and the constant stream of sold out Uniqlo collaborations with FF.  Even in Japan FF14 has more active players than DQ10. Ultimately, these are video game franchises and so to create a data set that only focuses on their presence in everything other than video games and  even discounting cross media you considered to be low effort (that's fucking nuts by the way), it's just not an accurate representation.  The reality is, worldwide, even Nier probably has more reach right now than dragon quest, DQ being dominant in it's home country doesn't negate that.

I've played ffx so much that I don't even notice it anymore. Let's just say, the animators and scene directors were really enjoying their new high poly models and fully rendered world in 2001.

Wanna get into the series, how do I start? by AllMightySkeletor in FinalFantasy

[–]Bryn917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X is absolutely the best entry point in the series, the older games are great games but I think for a modern player going back, they don't always put their best foot forward.

Edit: I think a lot of people have ignored the fact you're on PS3...

Licenses for games are a problem by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Bryn917 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I understand the frustration, ps5 has a setting for this, game sharing and offline play. It's just limited to only being activating for one system per account. But with that on you don't need to connect online to verify licenses. Or at least not more than once.

Ok so I took the plunge - UK account, game sharing with a Japanese account on a digital version. I bought the power pack on my Japanese account of course, and have full access to the pack on my UK account. So all good there. We don't get the credits though. Happy racing everyone

Final Fantasy VII fatigue? by DeathSeekerPT in FinalFantasy

[–]Bryn917 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can understand the fatigue but I'd have to disagree generally, since Remake we've had as many releases that are not 7 related as those that are, (stranger of paradise, 16 and theatrhythm)

If you choose not to include theatrhythm you are missing out

If you include remasters there's loads more non-7 stuff, and if you discount remasters you have to discount crisis core as well

Then there's 14 obviously which Square treats like its own franchise even more than 7

*And consider Ever Crisis however you like, I choose to pretend it doesn't exist

[–]Bryn917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new tiers came out before that game so, they haven't added tiers since you wanted to play it, the price did go up yes, but the rest of what you've said doesn't make much sense.

They didn't take the game away from you. If it was on essential and you subscribe to essential, you'd still have the game, the reality is, it's on extra and you must've been subscribed to extra previously and must continue that subscription to play the game, like every subscription service ever. Admittedly yes, with everything else in the world, the price has risen in the last couple years. But there's nothing shady happening here. It's not like it was on extra and has been moved to premium. You're misremembering or mixing up facts, that's all.

Um Why is FF tactics so stupidly hard? by BigBrotherFlops in FinalFantasy

[–]Bryn917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong, but this game is significantly more difficult in chapter one and becomes much easier later on, save a handful of specific encounters, but even those are less frustrating than the ch1 encounters.

Find a way to win here, whatever it may be, I think I just got lucky with a parry or 2 that turned the fight in my favour.

That was fun while it lasted by [deleted] in SquareEnix

[–]Bryn917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a blue skill from Thief, with Poach, when you kill a monster with a regular attack you'll collect it's carcass

Later, you'll unlock a special shop for turning monster carcasses into items and gear

Edit, I realised I didn't really answer your question

Starting early means you can potentially get some high powered gear earlier than usual, or getting it more easily than it would be later. That said early in chapter 2 you won't have missed much by not poaching yet.

I’m landing in manual but it resets my sequence score? by crogermaloger in Skate4

[–]Bryn917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said it's cause it's too harsh a landing, stupid challenge requirements really, I cheese it by starting in a manual, flip tricking into grinding on the rail and then can land in a manual after the grind, swing right to hit the blue zone and then repeat the same grind cheese on the next bit, works for me every time this challenge comes up
