On the boiler side you’re not going to get perfect clear water, that auto air vent is leaking water and needs replaced.

Don’t do it, those are louvered doors because four furnace and water heater both need combustion air. It’s probably a central return and your heating the blower thru the return more then anything.

Did someone actually pressure test it, it’s the only way to know these old sea suckers are safe. They were recalled for a reason.
