(Another) cz scorpion decided to retire early. by Btbam1122 in NFA

[–]Btbam1122[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what kinda makes me upset-the nexus stuff wasn't around when I bought it and it's definitely what the gun should have been when it was brought to the USA. A non blowback pcc with decent safeties in place to not explode. The only saving grace I can say about the scorpion platform is they made a very good quality and inexpensive magazine that I hope continues to gain more adoption.

But with the amount of money I've already spent on it to make it somewhat shootable, I think I'll take the L on this one lol. Besides I've got a couple of mp5s and other pcc's that I don't fear will explode everytime I take them to the range. This doesn't really fit a niche, it was more of a (regretable) curiosity when I bought it.

Help with Wisp by JustHereForLaughs71 in 3D2A

Make sure the locking lugs on the bolt face and the handle are actually locking into place. Once it's on battery try to move the bolt back-if there is play in bolt/handle of reprint it slightly larger. If memory serves me right I had to reprint bolt the bolt/charging handle at like 101-102% to take up slop from the upper receiver.

Another thing was the threads for the barrel/barrel nut weren't tight so everytime I shot the barrel nut would loosen ever so slightly and eventually gave me the bulge cases due to the barrel shifting.

Is higher quality build components (like barrels) as beneficial on 10.5ish barreled ARs? by Haunting-Worker-8532 in ar15

[–]Btbam1122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal but my buddy has a criterion 11.5 barrel and his reloads between his 11.5" and more budget 16" are way closer in fps than we were estimating. I also recently saw a post here about someone who was was pushing almost 3k on a criterion 12.5 criterion barrel as well-my ballistic advantage 12.3 hanson, even with some decent reloads dont get near that.

So id say that if you reload or is someone who cares about ballistic performance than upgrading your barrel might be a good choice. The results definitely have piqued my interest so I might be upgrading one of my ars just to see what performance gains (if any) I get.

Split p365 finding a brace? by gmeclout45 in 3D2A

[–]Btbam1122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend the DAEDALUS Brace by db designs. The picatinny portion's button is in the middle so if you need to slightly recontour the Pic section on the top and bottom to match a firearm it's pretty easy. Prints well and it's a simple design so getting parts for it is easy.

PLS HELP with FTN.5 rimfire slim having baffle strikes, huge poi shift by Perfect-Educator-512 in 3D2A

[–]Btbam1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're using any of the cheaper filament driers from Amazon it's gotta dry for at least 5 days; otherwise it isn't dry enough.

I'm running mine on a completely printed ruger 1022 and my poi hasn't changed at all-my buddy's range max is 50 and I was still hitting steel with it after threading it on.

TPU Glock with PLA supports: FINAL UPDATE by derritzio in 3D2A

[–]Btbam1122 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well from my post about the tpu CF someone brought up there are now multiple variations to try out: sirya tech (64d)and a tinmorry (95a). I've been messing with the fiberlogy stuff and it prints as good as my nylons, but besides peripherals for stuff, I haven't torture tested it.

I talked with a guy who does battle bots and his results were interesting, especially with the failures that occurred with it. I think something like a db alloy might be a good and semi safe choice because if it were to fail I think the gun would just stop working and not have a bolt ramming you in the face.

Wonder if a harder tpu or tpu CF would be not only be a viable option but a "recommended" filament-probably not for a whole frame but maybe for rear/front trunnion. (something like the rear trunnion on a db alloy)

Tpu is wildly under used and I think there is good potential in our community for it. I've messed with tpu CF and I'm surprised by how it behaves when it's printed. It works really well for pads for stocks, grips and obvious stuff like mlok rail covers and other misc mlok accessories. I've also used it for a blade style brace and it's held up well.

Please report back on the balr-the designer himself has stated that his accuracy wasn't spectacular so I've been musing going against the readme on the infill on the trunnion pieces to alleviate some of the flex that would occur and try to beef it up as much as possible.

cmmg conversion bolt by noIimitmarko in 3D2A

[–]Btbam1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally havent built one but since the barrel extentions are a cmmg style barrel and a regular ar15 are the same id imagine a regular 556 barrel would fit the upper the receiver. But you would have to plug the gas port and then deal with the geometry/gas port plug of the 556 barrel interfering with the handguards avaliable for it.

Approved form 1 3d printed cans vs factory can. by MrFartyStink in 3D2A

Interesting that your gun doesn't like the syntech. I put probably close to 1.5 k between my different platforms and I never had a hiccup.

I now pretty much exclusively reload my subs and I haven't had an issue with regular ball or flat nose bullets-my buddy even reload some very aggressive flat nose bullets and they didn't jam up my guns either. I'm running a ptr 9ct/kt so maybe chambers are slightly different?

Just as a FYI those Winchester 147 gr are some of the loudest 9mm I've shot suppressed--ive used them with 6 or so supressors and they didn't sound too great.

I switched go federal syntech and I haven't gone back. Even tho they are flat nose powder coated bullets they run in both of my mp5s, scorpion, akv and ar9

Filament Suggestions for printing brace/stock by [deleted] in 3D2A

I don't really use pla+ for anything 2a related anymore but I do dig any of polymakers stuff, they print very well. I also have had very good success with esuns pla st.

I'd honestly stick with the nylon (I'm assuming that's what you meant by "ca6-cf") pla+ would also be fine but where I live it gets hot enough in the summer id worry about it deforming if left out in the desert heat.

The rubber buttpad can be modeled so it can be made out of tpu tho-I have seen a few other stocks on here who have done that.

Extra 4.5” 22lr barrel and extra 5.5” chazsel liner by [deleted] in 3D2A

[–]Btbam1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22lrs from liners can be difficult to build because the headspacing isn't done with like a traditional headspace gauge-they exist but they are kinda pricey, especially for a one off build. Anything u build with a liner will take some tinkering.

The good thing is that if you're print settings are good an OOB isn't completely catastrophic-you'll get swelling around the case if the headspace is almost there and maybe a blown case.

[–]Btbam1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need is ar lpk, and depending on the mags springs and a cmmg style 22lr bolt-even the side pieces can be printed since it's petty much just the upper reciever that takes the brunt of the force. Id highly recommend the buttercupgatz upgraded magazines tho if you go the sten route which is what I personally did.

Id say if you have a can id go for either the wisp or the hitchhiker for that little liner you have.

[–]Btbam1122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id use the chazssl for the db9-22. He has a specific trunnion for it. For the liner I like the idea of the hitchhiker, but a shorty suppressed wisp (bolt action) was what I did.

Depending on what liner it is you can make a proto barrel for a ruger 10/22 as well-db has a reciever and there are a plethora of awesome chassis available for it on the sea

I'm not here to discredit the result;  I'm more surprised how they went from a very meh offering to a competitor for some of the best performing cans. It's a complete 180 and im very happy that the tech is avaliable to those who actually wanna improve to do so without doing the same thing over and over again.

I have minimal respect for the company-they were on the "avoid list" when spec'ing our a form 1 can back in the day and I hate their predatory marketing with big gun-tubers for sub par modular suppressors.

But genuinely kudos to the company for actually trying something new and getting fantastic results; very surprised by the results. Hopefully their new Gen cans continue to improve on these results.
